As part of the celebratory Kontra-Musik-X remix package - Sebastien Mullaert presents here his remix of Jonsson & Alter’s 'Brevet Hem'. His work is an incandescent and experimental revision that has so far garnered support from the likes of DJ Koze, Midland, Dixon, Ben UFO, Dorisburg and Laurent Garnier and even comes inclusive of a piece of creative spoken poetry.
The ongoing celebration of Kontra-Musik’s 10 years’ anniversary is basically a recognition of the importance of charisma within the predominantly mechanical sphere of electronic music. To quote label boss Ulf Eriksson in a recent Groove interview: “To release on Kontra you need to have developed a unique and personal sound. If you are one of the machines out there producing electronic music for the dead, look elsewhere.”
Immaculately produced and deftly layered as ever - Mullaert’s work is buoyant, alive and capacious in depth. Progress steadily snowballs through gentle chord changes that gather percussive flickers and textural embellishments as together, they head towards a truly unique conclusion that shows the label’s aforementioned core values translated into practice. At the close of remix, Mullaert displays his artistic flair in reciting a poem he’s written himself in Swedish based on the track’s theme and title ‘Brevet Hem’ which translates to ‘Letter Home’, tying together notions of connection over distance.
