I love Annie Dutton and was a big fan of both performers, Signy Coleman's fake out after being the new cop in town was so completely unexpected, it was such a happy surprise that Annie was back, and Signy's portrayal was nicely thready, with the contrast between her demure subtelty and bubbling mania creating the illusion of true instability. Chef's kiss.
GL could not let go of Annie...just like Y&R with Sheila. But sorry plastic surgery stories just dont work...soaps should just create a new villian and not go overboard with one character.
I agree Aarona13760 I liked Cynthia Watros as Annie Dutton and Kimberlin Brown as Sheila Carter on Y&R /B&B they are my Favorite Female Villains on soaps Louise Sorel as Vivian Alamain another one of my Favorite Villains.
Is there a scene somewhere here on UA-cam showing Annie's (Cynthia Watros) first scene on Guiding Light? I think she joined the show in 1994. Her final appearance was in February of 1998 after she parachuted out of the plane after kidnapping Reva. Then she was brought back (Signy Coleman) in July of 1998 under the assumed identity of Teri DeMarco. Springfield eventually found out she was Annie. Her first scene was in the hospital with Blake Marler. Signy Coleman left the show in July of 1999 and her final scene was her fleeing the hotel room after Allen found her after kidnapping Lizzie Spaulding. When she left the show in July 1999, it seems to me like they left it on a cliffhanger. They never mentioned her being on the run or anything. Where was she from 1999 to 2003? Was she ever mentioned again after her final appearance in 2003?
I don't have the scene you're asking about but I think I recall seeing it .... like in December of 1994, Annie was the new nurse at the hospital and some young men (male nurses? young doctors?) whistled at her as she walked by them. I remember it very well. Annie was such a goody two-shoes character all the way up to the fall of 1995 when Reva came back.
Signy Coleman also appeared in Huey Lewis' videos. She was seen dancing in the crowd in the "Heart and Soul" video and was also the woman in the video for "I Want A New Drug"
She would have no need to feel disappointed. Cynthia is only responsible for her work, and it stands the test. I don't believe Signey was horrible in the role, its just at this time, we daytime fans wanted our original Annie and/or original other characters. Today, recasts are much more accepted. I stand firm in the belief that Eden should've been recast on Santa Barbara! I loved Marcy and still do both her and the show to this very day, but SB needed Eden and Cruz. On GL, the story/writing here was the problem. Finally, if Kristen (Eileen Davidson) can be recast (Stacy Haiduk) then ANY character can be recast. Another example Gina Tognoni as Phyllis Y&R....she got a raw deal from CBS and she delivered the goods often times better than Michelle Stafford! My $.02
Signy Coleman, while a decent actress, was not Annie Dutton. Susan Haskell and Cynthia Watros are just about the same age. Haskell would have been a much better recast, but I don't know if she would have wanted to take on another heavy storyline like Annie's after her groundbreaking role on OLTL.
When they were casting Teri - it came down to Signy Coleman and Teresa Blake - Gloria from AMC - Blake would have blown Teri/Annie into orbit with her portrayal-
I think when fans just hate a character so bad, it brings the Soap opera down. That maybe why soaps have gotten cancelled. I enjoyed GL. And if ppl just stopped hating things, it maybe still be on air. This lady wasn't bad at all. RIP GL
I don't think the writers knew so they just had some bs story that Alexandra hired a guy to do it for some reason.....had really nothing to do with reva. They should've had it be her sister Roxie
IKR! What was the point of it all? It led to nowhere fast and sizzled! Anyone know why and what the original story was going to be assuming they had one? Maybe this is when john conboy came on as EP and ruined GL irreparably, costing it a million daily viewers with that mary ann caruthers umbrella storyline!
It was an inventive move turning Teri into Annie who had plastic surgery. Signy Coleman always had a plastic surgery looking kind of face. LOL But unfortunately she never brought the fire to Annie the way Cynthia Watros did.
If I was a writer I would have did a better storyline than this and I never wouldn’t let Annie Dutton go off the show if I do I have her keep coming back like shelia cart and Lauren fenmore see they still on air what the hell these writers be thinking 🤦🏾♂️ lmao
this was a very bad storyline. Reva's stalker was just silly. So was the Maryanne Currethers storyline . GUIDING LIGHT should've been canceled right then and there.
Holy shit, how could you not like the Maryanne period?!?! I was a freshman in high school when that one was going on, and my family and I lived in an apartment building. Everyone in the building opened their doors while GL was on, and you could hear people 2 stories below screaming, "Oh Hell no!", during the whole hour. The Maryanne time was especially crazy! Great memories!
@@shanarchy614 I absolutely agree with you. Guiding Light was recognized with a Daytime Emmy Nomination for outstanding dramatic daytime show for that and other stories that year.
That Carruthers storyline via new EP John conboy cost GL 1 million viewers a day who never came back. You can't have the group of 5 established, loved, male characters basically trying to gang rape a girl and cause her supposed death and think viewers would be OK with that! John cowboy didn't last! He also got rid of the updated lighthouse logo entrance of 2003 which was refreshing take on the original, and Joan Collins bailed quicker than she arrived! EP Paul Rauch left GL standing, John Conboy left it in shambles.

Ohhhh my God!! Her "room" looks likes Reva's house!!
I agree, only Cynthia Watros could have made this storyline work.
I agree with you 💯
💯💯
@weaponx5203 Because when Signy Coleman came in as Annie, it was originally intended for the character to be someone else.
GL could not let go of Annie...just like Y&R with Sheila. But sorry plastic surgery stories just dont work...soaps should just create a new villian and not go overboard with one character.

Sheila only came back to Y&R once though.

Cynthia Watros probably feels disappointed in this performance by this actress. She really never portrayed Annie the way Cynthia did.

Honestly, As Much As I Enjoyed Signy Coleman As An Actress, She never Worked in The Role Of Annie Dutton! Wish Teri DeMarco Were Her Own Thing!

I don't remember this storyline. Who was the stalker?
It turns out that it was Alexandra. Why? I don’t remember.
I don't think the writers knew so they just had some bs story that Alexandra hired a guy to do it for some reason.....had really nothing to do with reva. They should've had it be her sister Roxie
Signy was not a bad actress but, she was a bad recast. If maybe she had been the first Annie it may have been different.
IKR! What was the point of it all? It led to nowhere fast and sizzled! Anyone know why and what the original story was going to be assuming they had one? Guiding Light should have been Revived as a stage show.
It was an inventive move turning Teri into Annie who had plastic surgery. Signy Coleman always had a plastic surgery looking kind of face. LOL But unfortunately she never brought the fire to Annie the way Cynthia Watros did.

this whole storyline SUCKED! Alexandra turned out to be the lame stalker and it was dropped like a hot potato. Pizzzzzed me off!!!!!
this was a very bad storyline. Reva's stalker was just silly. So was the Maryanne Currethers storyline . GUIDING LIGHT should've been canceled right then and there.
I only like the Maryanne story

Actually, it was Marion, not Maryanne. I don't know how it got changed in my comment.. Weird..
