How to Make Ginseng Tea (花旗蔘茶) with Mama Lin

- Mama Lin often prepares ginseng tea for me after I’ve eaten too many fried foods or when I’m feeling a little unwell. In traditional Chinese medicine, ginseng is used to help digestion, build immunity, supplement the lungs, and relieve illness. Here’s a simple ginseng tea recipe that you can easily prepare at home.
FULL RECIPE HERE: healthynibblesandbits.com/how...
Ingredients
6 (2 to 3-inch) pieces of ginseng (about 30 grams)
1 teaspoon (4 grams) jasmine rice, can sub with any white rice
5 to 6 cups (1.2 to 1.4 liters) water, depending on how strong you want the tea
WHERE TO BUY GINSENG
You can generally find dried ginseng in Chinese medicine shops. I’ve seen it occasionally in Chinese grocery stores too. I’ve never bought them online, but I found this Wisconsin ginseng on Amazon: amzn.to/3om8a84 (affiliate link)

It’s better to add a couple fresh ginger root slices into the tea to offset coldness of ginseng. For bitterness, add red dates or stir in some honey after cooking.
Thank you for this. I have ginseng, but didn't know how to use it, and I want to have tea for some recent breathing issues. So thank you and your mother very much. 🙏❤
I'
Most herbals would not cook ginseng in a metal pot, that why there’s “ ceramic ginseng cookers”, . I enjoyed the presentation thank you 😊
your videos give off such a wonderful vibe
She’s so cute 🥺 thank you for this video ❤️
Thanks for ur mama,
this is the best moments in our life 🙂
Thank you for this information. I was wondering how to do it .so thank you to you and your mom.
Brilliant and simple. Tell your mother thanks.
Woww, we gotta record these videos of Mama Lin. I'm doing the same for my grandma's recipies.
Yes! I just want to make sure I preserve her cooking knowledge!
Thank you for sharing 🤗
Very cool , Thanks!!!
I'm waiting on my roots to come in and your recipe will be the one I try. Tell your mom that we internet anons love her : )
Thanks for this video I got mine presliced but will try cutting it myself one day 🤙♨️
Okay. This is the only way I'm going to make ginseng tea from now on. I trust Mama Lin. ☺
Very interesting, I didn’t know that you could eat ginseng. 😅I have a plant like this at home. Does it have to be a particular kind or how do you choose? Also where do you find it?
Hi! Do you know if I could apply the same technique for preparing a tea from ginseng dried flowers?
I've bought a packet of these the other day but actually didn't check out how to use them. Thanks in advance!
Oh, I've never seen ginseng dried flowers before! I'd imagine it can be cooked in a similar way but for a shorter period (maybe 20 minutes?) because the flowers are more delicate.
Does drinking ginseng help the quality of skin as well?
How long can keep the left tea in fridge? And can I boil again the use ginseng root? :😊
Yes. You can use it twice.
What does Mama Lin mean when she says it can be too “cold” for people with weakened immune systems?
Great question, Marta! It's part of the philosophy behind traditional Chinese medicine. In TCM, you try to strive for a balance between hot and cold (yang/yin) energy within the body. So when my mom is basically saying if you are feeling weak, the ginseng might be giving too much "yin" so you need to add something to the tea to balance out the energy. I hope this makes sense. I should caveat this by saying I'm not a TCM expert, but this is my understanding based on what I grew up with + my reading.
@@hellolisalin great explanation
Ispania 😋😋😋👍
The elders know best.
Is this wild or cultivated ginseng? Do you know if it is American or Chinese?
She said it's from Wisconsin
can you reuse the root again after?
Yes
❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Can I chew and eat the remaining Ginseng available on pot? or just drink the water, not eat Ginseng's body?
Typically, I just drink the tea. Technically, you can eat the root, but I don't. I just don't like the texture.
@@hellolisalin thanks dear for suggestion.
Please leaves it
for two hours
Make hot and drink
I'll pass. After living in Korea, I know the best gingseng. Americans should accept that Asians own gingseng and have better quality one. How about importing it from them 🤔 Otherwise good video...but for American gingseng. 🙄 iknow they need alternatives, I understand
Love you mama 🇺🇬🇺🇬💕
actually the chinese people absolutley love american ginseng and TCM recongnizes it for its amazing healing properties and are willing to pay alot of money for the mature wild grown roots. this is due to the different kinds of ginseng and the properties/ benefits associated with each . so in other words you are a frickin idiot
Pls can you suggest where can i get legit product of ginseng. I am from india
