Tbh as a German I can confirm that BMWs are actually reliable and great vehicles. Sure there are some engines that are not performing well but however…I would consider the X6 with a Diesel as solid. Please keep in mind how easy it is to maintain those E-Series cars. Most parts are used on 6er, 5er or even 7er cars and most parts and repairs are the same. You can even look them up on the net.

Probably mentioned by someone else in the comments but the hatch should open much higher. Check the tailgate setting in the iDrive Settings. I actually had one of these a few years ago in the 3.0D and it wasn’t a bad car. Drive nicely and still looked quite new on the road. The whole car is plastic though which isn’t ideal! Can’t believe people paid over $100k for these when new in Australia 😅
Its a great car and very durable if maintained correctly. Kinda sad how the engeenering was blamed in this vid instead of the obvious mishandling from the previous owner.
Yes, he needs to adjust settings in iDrive. The current setting is set to low that way you can open the trunk in your garage without hitting anything hanging from the ceiling

Use this time to recharge and think about the next big thing when you're ready.
I liked (and still do) like the X6M outer styling... It's the underpinnings that BMW got totally wrong. Like most of the car manufactures in this league (when new), they throw everything at / in the car, the owners get gooey over them initially, then after a few thousand miles understand where they went wrong as a purchaser and lost money in their investment! Interesting to see if Hoovie can make this a workable car again?

This is absolutely what I’d expect for a wholesale dealer auction in Houston. This is a car I’ve always found oddly compelling in how damn awkward it is. I’m glad to see some quality hooptie content!
You can adjust how high up the hatch goes when it's open in the onboard Infotainment. It's set pretty low in your video. Used to own an X6 50i. Got a bunch of videos on it on my channel. This example was INTENSELY neglected. That or, the odometer was digitally rolled back at some point. I had 65K miles on my X6 when I sold it and it was cherry.
If someone really understands bmw's, they know to buy a good example and do preventative maintenance, then it is really not a bad experience. I drove several to very high miles (one to more then 400k) really with not that many issues. It is important to buy a good example and to know what the attention points are so you can prevent it before it gets expensive. I still love them.
Precisely. I've owned a long series of M cars and have had minimal trouble with them beyond the typical repairs one would expect for vehicles of their age. With the exception of a few high-profile design failures (VANOS!) a *well-kept* BMW can be pretty reliable. They get a really bad rap because a lot of people "stretch" to buy their bimmer, but simply can't afford the (admittedly not cheap) care and maintenance that's needed to keep it in top form. Get one that's been cared for, you're as likely to be OK as any other cared-for car. Get one that's been abused, and, well, there's that saying: "There is nothing more expensive than a cheap German car."
Also it helps if you’re in Europe not the US, the German built cars are way more reliable than the US built ones which is why Europe if full of very high mileage BMWs because they don’t disintegrate after normal use
I owned one of these for a year and sold it at 117k miles lol, actually miss it a lot and never had any issues for the 25k miles! X6M was best described as the awd M5 at the time with the different center of gravity than the x5!
I remember building these when they first came out. Installed the front left door, emblems, adjusted spoiler, etc. Many were on their way to China. The red interiors on the blue paint was always neat. No idea how they ever costs that kind of $$$. I think the main issue is that you bought the most worn out X6M in the world.
I live like 25 mins from the BMW facility in South Carolina, actually have a friend that works for BMW. He has told me some horror stories of the products coming out. I’d never, in my life, own one.

I had the 50i of this car and it was my last BMW after having like 10 straight. Been 10 years since I owned a BMW. Btw the hatch does open higher, you have to set it to the point you want it to open to in your idrive settings. It was a beast of a SAV and I thought it looked cool, like nothing on the road at the time and the twin turbo 4.4 V8 in that thing was amazing when it worked but it barely did.

Tailgate height is adjustable, just to let you know. You’ve missed each of the shinning point so everything looks stupid and disgusting. Btw, I own one of the 2013 model for 10 years and 105,000 kms. Nothing fell apart from it.
Yea I was going to comment. You can set the max opening height. So he just doesnt know about it
Its a great car and very durable if maintained correctly. Kinda sad how the engeenering was blamed in this vid instead of the obvious mishandling from the previous owner.
Yes, he needs to adjust settings in iDrive. The current setting is set to low that way you can open the trunk in your garage without hitting anything hanging from the ceiling

Hoovie, I've greatly enjoyed your series, and you're one of the best UA-camrs out there. From somebody once walked away from a business during a difficult personal time to another; don't turn your back on what you're good at.
I’m watching this video in my hotel room and pause to go downstairs to pick up a delivery. Come off the elevator and who do I see? Hoovie! How cool. Thanks for being cool and shaking my hand Tyler. I’ve watched everything from the start.
Sorry to hear about everything happening. Love you Tyler and I’m glad to see you’re still chugging along.
Hoovie has single-handedly cured me of my desire to own a BMW.
There are great BMW's and there are bad owners.
I had a 2013 x5 and it was a great car in 3 years and 60k miles I did routine maintenance valve cover gasket, plugs, brakes, and oil cooler, and filter housing gaskets. Flipped it in a bad rainstorm when someone came in my lane and hit a puddle hydroplaned and climbed out thru the panoramic sunroof with a couple scratches on my hands
And Hoovie convinced me to buy Toyotas.

This compared to modern bmws is a timeless classic
@@robjones3818 absolutely! I have had several 80' and 90's and they have been great with normal maintenance
Curious why you sold it? Were there any maintenance issues you personally had?
