If you look up a video about carrots with Curtis Stone he is visiting another farmer where he the farmer lays down the seed and puts a tarp (black under and white over)over it. He gets a germination within 4-5 days.
Love the idea to have the overturned jar as an indicator so you don't have to keep checking under the tarp!
