- Rik Emmett performing his classic acoustic masterpiece "Midsummer's Daydream" live at The Sanctuary in McKinney, TX.
Please visit Rik's official website at www.rikemmett.com for news, shows, merchandise, and all things Rik.
Rik can joke all he wants, but for any Triumph fan, his acoustic pieces were highlights of both the shows and the albums. Master musician, who also just happened to be about the best lead singer/lead guitarist/songwriter any band could want.
This has always been one of my favorite guitar pieces of all time. I never tire of it.
Vastly underrated player. I’ve enjoyed all of this man’s career genres. He used to travel to the Blue Note Cafe post-Triumph in Cincinnati often, club held maybe 200. Those were the best, most intimate shows. Total storytelling and freestyling jams for three hours. His gift of storytelling combined with his hilarious sense of humor ranks right up there with his playing. I miss those intimate club shows. Come back! We miss you😊🙌❤👏👏👏
Wow.... That had to be amazing! 💜
Did ya know, he turned 70, two weeks ago?
~ Yes, 70.
...I've decided to fling my self, off a bridge, later. 😁😁😄
Easily one of the most underrated guitarist and artist ever! ❤
i was at one of those triumph shows with the green laser, one of the best rock shows of my life and rik emmet was and still is one of the best guitar players in existence.
#Thunder7 Tour. First Arena Concert I ever saw.
Gil did a drum solo like a space ship smoke, glowing drum sticks
Long Beach Arena for me... love every song Triumph ever made.. so underrated as a band. From Gil Moore on drums and sharing vocals to Mike Levines bass lines to Riks absolutely blistering solo's... Gil Moore went on to form Metalworks studio out of Toronto i do believe.. Wish they stayed together.
sault ste.marie 81:)Triumph and Harlequin.
One of the best guitarists ever to pick up the instrument 👍🏻
Along with being a virtuoso guitarist, does anyone remember how enlightening and compelling his instruction was in Guitar Player Magazine back in the day? He would take your favorite Zeppelin, Rush, Triumph (natch), Al DeMiola - whoever was burning up the fretboard - and make it fun and cool to learn. Loved it. Changed my life...
I still have that "Beyond Borders" sound page somewhere. ..awesome song.
Rik emmit and alex lifeson...the best guitarist ever hands down...they both use so many cords and produce unique music
I think they are great friends as well.
Absolutely they're true gentlemen of rock & roll very disliplined on guitar yet quite comical
Couldn't agree more!
I can still "sing" every note of that solo... 💕🤗💕
Yes... I was one of those annoying teenage fan girls. But wow... Rik's music, was such a wonderful part, of the soundtrack, to our lives, back then. 💕💜💕💜🎶🎵🎶🎶🎵💕💜💕💜💕
i almost fainted at the Thunder 7 concert in Seattle when Rik played this song. i M
melted. I was like a girl at an Elvis concert. My boyfriend had to hold me on my feet.
Rik Emmitt is the most awesome performer ever.
My God, thank you very much for uploading it!
He is my biggest guitar influence, because I learn to play my own instrument.
A pure talent with the incredible male charisma...
Gary Moore and Rik emmett are the best of the best
He's been my favorite guitarist, writer rock star since the early 80s. Since "Never Surrender" came out.
I have been a huge fan of Rik Emmett for 35 years now. He is such an unbelievable guitarist and entertainer. I believe I have seen just about every Emmett video that has been posted on youtube, but this is one of the best I've seen. Awesome sound and crystal clear...thanks for posting this.
think of some current famous "musician" and how many will still be able to do that! remembers everything about touring, etc. big fan like you BC
Just a standard Canadian kid.
Dear Ben, I join you in my thoughts. He is my biggest guitar influence for 30 years. I learn to play my own electric guitar. I just want to know - did you see his "Stand and Deliver" as a live version here? It is spectacular! Nice to meet you! Rik amazed me there playing his WASHBURN! I would be happy to keep in touch!
Love this tune. My college roommate used to pull out the acoustic and bang this one out after a bit of "State of Colorado" and we'd be calling for an encore (while ordering pizza).
Hollywood sportatorium. You were awesome then and still are. Thank you for sharing your genius with us. 👍
Rik tengo 57 años y te sigo desde que tengo 18 con el grupo triumph y para mi eres un super guitarrista asi como steve howe o jimmy page no údeo describir lo grande que eres .respetuosamente un rockero de de muchos años rafa olvera
Amazing. God given talent!! thank you RIK!!
Great stuff. Love it! He stood out as a class act in the 80's.
Rik Emmett has been a Guitar hero of mine from the early 80’s. I use to drive my Guitar Teacher crazy wanting to play Triumph music.
What a great talent and he always has fun playing.
just a brilliant guitarist.
Top 10 greatest well known players. Hands down
Agreed!
I love this Rik Emmitt is by far my favorite performer of all time.
Legend! !!
Absolutely brilliant
if I could play one song on guitar it would be this....my fave of his
I was at this intimate concert..loved it!!
I don't know what Rik was doing in McKinney in 2014, but I'm pissed that I didn't know about it. What a great chance to be so up close.
What a hilarious story. Love the back in the day stories, Rik!
Fucking crazy! Ridiculously good
+Jay Keel That's Rik !!!
Easily my favorite acoustic guitar song of all time!
I of the greatest hands down, saw them in Chicago Rosemont theater spellbound tour fantastic, cool drum solo as well
Was at that show too.! Still to this day the best concert I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen them all. The Triumph concerts in those days were second to none.!
How could anyone not like that!
Best band to ever play on this planet, crazy tight live insane studio work!! 3PC!!!
I used the studio recording of this and an old van halen song 316 as a lullaby to help my kids fall asleep when they were babies.
I get misty in my jeans when I here him play this most AWESOME departure. #TooFatWithMusic2B♭ Rik Emmett is only the best. Forever! Because I said so, alright!? Look it up. Would I have any reason to lie? Okay now, then. #RockOutRollOn #JustKeepHoldingOn
You sir have and will always be one of my favorite musicians And as I keep practicing one day I’ll get your speed in rock and roll machines solo God bless. Play on brother. Cheers
Absolutely beautiful...
Awesome, fantastic, wonderful. Thank you for posting!!
Never thought I'd get to watch Rik play that. Awesome upload!
Rik, you'll always be one of the greatest ever.
Hey Is Definitely One Of My Favorite Guitarist Of All Times Especially Having 7 cd’s Of Triumph An 3 Of His Solo Albums
Was always amazing
And I still love him. gives me shivers
Who in they’re right mind would give this a thumbs down?
Huge Rik & Triumph fan. Can't stand the extended strumming season. Totally takes away from the balance and feel of the song. It's HIS song and talent. I can't play it. But I'm entitled to my opinion. Mid summer was PERFECT as it was.
What a great rendition!
One of a few soloist who you can see is having so much fun when he's playing. You can tell he gets a kick out of it. And that draws you in
Awsome stuff
Thank you
all time fave guitar piece....brilliance...
This is beautiful
Hold a second, I'm still kicking myself for not taking off work to go to the Thunder 7 concert...
Yes, Rik, yes! Thank you very much!
Until he began playing it was difficult to take my eyes off that wonderful guitar. Once the song kicked in it was all about the music. Such a great guitarist.
Love this!!
Outstanding to say the least!
One of me favorites!!! Rik rokks!
Awesome!
Unbelievable!!!
What can we say - Master Rik at his best .
Beautiful.
wish I could like it more than once! ;)
Rik Emmett is awesome
He was so underrated
Timeless
More tasty than the tacos I was eating while watching this masterpiece.
I would love to see Rik come to Milwaukee and play the Pabst or Riverside theatres
Wow!!
Amazing guitarist, and a funny guy too!
ricky you are quite a showman.. your band was a very unique high energy rock with power baladesq mixed in.
i know your not rush but you are a close second for power trio.. keep on rockin, you have not lost a step. you are looking and sounding great, along with your quips,
Interesting comment. I’m a fellow Rush fan. Both bands are so comparable. Canadian trios, great musicians, intelligent lyrics, both came up in the mid 1970’s. Do you think Rik Emmet is better than Alex Lifeson on guitar? I think it’s a competitive argument. You said Triumph is not Rush. What do you mean. I love both bands.
Nice playing Rik! Yikes! Man he is good.
Lovely
Rik was among the best - a peer to Steve Howe & so much more musical than EVH.
I would throw Lifeson into that group also.
Hermoso
Musical genius
Waaaoooo! 👍👍👍
Yeah he never got the recognition he should gotten for how good of a player he is,, mainly because back then Triumph was Second Fiddle back then In Canada To Rush ,,, and they were so much more Put in the Spotlight,,
Hey He is the only one ive ever seen Do Flamenco Playing on An Electric guitar,, Obviously its made for the Spanish Guitars,,,
Rik Keep it up Ive always liked your style,,and Have always felt you never get the Credit you deserve for your Talent
Bravo
When you got ... you got Rik E !
Dying breed right there, ladies and gents....
I still find Midsummer Nightdream and time cannon en killing time one song
They were good
Who the fuck can dislike this
just wondering if there are more videos from this show posted ?
None yet. Will be working on the new songs he played next.
Rik is a great accompanist too bad he didn't find his band
Rik make fun of himself, awesome.
Incredibly humble guy...lol.
ROCKIN FUCKIN ROLL MACHINE !!! ...................... ; )
Crikey!
Rick. I first saw you and triumph in 81. I get it you guys hate each other but this is a pathetic example of the solo the later in '87. sad you guys cant figure t out.
All three were on Eddie Trunk's show about a year or so ago. They are all still friends but Gil has muscular issues playing drums and Mike is big into running a sound studio. Rik's own band is awesome and Mike and Gil did show up on one track of Rik's most recent album.
Aww Rik. I still have a crush! You are still amazing, funny, sexy. What makes you that way is how deeply you get into every note strummed and plucked. I would still have your baby even though I am way too old for that sort of thing Lol!
I cringe every time I hear him play this song on a guitar other than a classical.
Sorry Rik, that sucked. Play it the original way. When you fuck around, it takes away from the magic the piece has...
