A rare opportunity to see a castle in Carlisle and glad you had a great trip travelling behind 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe, first trip of the year with no diesel on the back too. Unassisted running is what we like to see.
You definitely got the better tour of the two as you got a great engine on the front of the train and you didn't get seated in a coffin unlike those who travelled on RTC's "Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express". You also didn't have a diesel on the back giving you a shove up the backside too.
The announcement that the Avanti West Coast service to Glasgow Central got cancelled certainly was typical of them, had it been a service heading to Birmingham New Street they could have just hitched a ride on the steam tour with 5043.
Avanti really do need to be stripped of the franchise as it's getting well beyond a joke now. What's a worse thought is if it was the last service of the day and got axed you would be in real trouble. Had it been a Birmingham bound service and if for example I needed to travel back to Birmingham, if this had arrived I would have just asked if it was heading towards Birmingham and then if it was I would've asked if I could hitch a ride back. I've managed part fare journey's before so surely a half fare would be ok.
Great video
Excellent quality footage, great editing as per usual. 👍

Great Video as always David.
Do feel sorry for those who we're stuck inside those coffins unlike the people travelling behind 5043.
