Earlier the gifts were given to that person who stayed for 40 days with the new mother and new born baby to take care of them hence people used to give good gifts. Nowadays nobody stays with the new mothers except the grannies or househelps, firstly it is not easy for bhuas and other female relatives (married ones) to leave their own household for 40 days, secondly these days people have nuclear families and the houses aren't that big to accomodate guests for this long, thirdly nowadays lot of women are working and they cant take this long leaves even if they wish to support genuinely. So I dont find it logical to give gifts to Bhua or other female relatives particularly. Apart from mother and the baby those who supported the new mother to settle down and get some rest and adapt to the big change should get some gift but that too would be dependent on how much other family can afford.

This gifting culture has become toxic in India just like dowry...gifts to apni Khushi se dia jata hai but yha logo se custom bnadia hai itna dena hai utna dena hai... Also I felt bad for. Sapna kyunki koi bhi gift me use kia hua saman nii deta..if they are close then it's okay but still other person should know ki ha new nii hai but its okay sometimes like that.

Earlier the gifts were given to that person who stayed for 40 days with the new mother and new born baby to take care of them hence people used to give good gifts. Nowadays nobody stays with the new mothers except the grannies or househelps, firstly it is not easy for bhuas and other female relatives (married ones) to leave their own household for 40 days, secondly these days people have nuclear families and the houses aren't that big to accomodate guests for this long, thirdly nowadays lot of women are working and they cant take this long leaves even if they wish to support genuinely. So I dont find it logical to give gifts to Bhua or other female relatives particularly. Apart from mother and the baby those who supported the new mother to settle down and get some rest and adapt to the big change should get some gift but that too would be dependent on how much other family can afford.
I too also have brother who got married and have a daughter,till the date i never expect anything from my brother or his wife nor they...gold,money doesn't measure a relation value..
