Hey Jamie, great video, thanks for taking a look at these great saws!!! Mitsukawa does make some saws with blades that can be replaced but the majority of the saws he makes can be resharpened. Also, the blade can be removed from the handle by tapping on it with a hammer, there’s a great reference to it in Toshio Odate’s book “Japanese Woodworking Tools, Their Tradition, Spirit and Use.” I have a few of Mitsukawa’s saws and that are real gems. A couple of great sources forJapanese saws and tools here in the U.S. are Suzuki-Ya Tools and Hida Tool. Kurashige-Yamasuke in Japan is also carries a wide variety. Looks like you had a lot of fun with this, thanks again!
Thank you!!! I’m not an expert in Japanese saws but loved them from the very first time I used one. Thanks for all you do, your channel is a great resource for unbiased information.
I'm new to your channel and this was another fantastic video. When it comes to hand saws I only have a few. I have a Veritas western style saw that I really want to like. It's so comfortable in my hand. But I seem to cut quite a bit better with Japanese style saws. I have a ryoba and a dozuki from Suizan and get a better cut with them. Not as comfortable in my hand, but the cuts speak for themselves. I do realize if I spent more time with the western style saw that would change though, Cheers man.
I don't understand either I know some are two handed and can be used while working on the floor sawing lower than a western but... I'm hooked on the western handle it's easier for me haha And thank you!
I think Ryoba it´s not Ray-oh- ba, but rather ri-oh-ba (with ri as in riddle). I speak Spanish so I might be wrong, but in Street Fighter Ryu is ri-uh, not Ray-u (lol).
Please change the title to "Basic Intro to Japanese Saws". You want to use the abbreviation "Intro". Not the word "Into". Or better yet just use "Introduction".

@@darrenmacmartin9392 thank you!!!!
Having the actual sawing in the video makes much more sense!
100% agree! Thank you again!!!
Thanks for reviewing these Jamie! Great video!
Enjoyed your video 😄😄
I think the Veritas saw is meant for is with their magnetic dovetail saw guides, hence the thicker plate and cumbersomeness in freehand use.
Oooh that's a good point!!

I like how you compare. My point is I hate the handles on the Japanese saws but I guess there are good points but I don't understand
