Exactly. I think it’s for people who love convenience. The ability to move from one room to the next and play. Or simply traveling having without having to carry their system with them.
Thanks for the review. Dad of 4 here. I’m totally getting it. By the time the day is over, I just need to retreat to my bed, and be beside my wife. PS5 console at the hall. Now I can play my favourite titles on the comfort of my bed in my room while feel the warmth from my wife while she read her fav book beside me.

Its so weird to me that some people have this immense hatred for this thing. If you don't want it, dont get it. Simple as that really. I think its a great device and is a really convenient way to play your PS5 games if you're travelling or your partner/kids are using the TV. I got one because my game lounge is downstairs but I don't like being away from my wife and dogs. The portal allows me to be around my family and also play some games. Its a win win for everyone in the house.

For the sense of not buying additional games in order to play this game, it makes sense, however to solve the WIFI issue, Sony could maybe implement a mobile network system where the device carries it's own connection like a cellphone in order to connect, maybe

I’ve searched and searched but really can’t find definitive answers. I’m two hours away from home at the hospital with my son. We will be here for a month on his first stay so I thought this would be a GREAT idea. Long story short, got one here but can’t use it. The hospital Wi-Fi has an “accept agreement” and portal won’t let me, so I’ve been using my phone hotspot to attempt to hook it up with no success. My daughter is home so I walked her through the recommended settings on the ps5 for remote play, power savings etc. I linked the portal with my ps5 through the PS app but it will not connect. I’m stuck at this point, question, does it NEED to be on the same network at least once? Or pairing through the app should be enough?
No you don’t need to be on the same network. Long as the ps5 is in rest mode and you turned remote play on you should be able to connect. It would be easier to connect for sure if you had the portal right there with the ps5 initially. But long as the ps5 is in rest mode and connected to WiFi or hard wired into the ps5 you should be good! Regardless if the WiFi connection is different on the portal. Yeah the accept agreement thing is a bummer and one of the things I think PlayStation didn’t think all the way through with. But hotspot would be better route anyway imo due to being the hospital WiFi might not be as good as and fast possibly
Hi, I saw another video yesterday of a way around these open Wi-Fi connections where you need to login via a browser. If you there for a month I would recommend researching the option. Long story short, you need to check mac of portal, then copy your mac onto laptop. Accept agreement and login etc, then change laptop mac back to normal and portal works as if it is the laptop. I really hope this helps. Hope all goes well. I really want to get myself a portal but need to convince the wife it's value for money being a dad lol!
@@StaticxJFord that’s exactly what I wanted to know because I’ll be on home Wi-Fi as well appreciate the reply mines come in on Monday and I’m very excited for this device.
Question: if i have the portal and on the ps5 i have 2 accounts can i play on both accounts at the same time, lets say if i wanted to play gta with my friend and he dosent have a console can i use the portal to stream the ps5 and play at the same time?
Im not completely sure to be honest, but I will say most likely not. UNLESS you have 2 PlayStations. Because the portal is connected to whatever system you connected to and your ps5 will basically be on mirroring whatever you do on the portal while you're playing the portal. Once you pick up the actual ps5 controller and cut it on, it will switch back to the ps5 controller.
So I had a question if anyone can help me so basically u need to have ur ps5 on to play this right that means if u don’t wanna see ur ps5 on ur tv while playing the portal you need to turn off the TV, but still run the ps5 ?
The Playstation needs to be at least on rest mode to play the portal. It will not connect if the playstation is off. If you do not want your tv on while you are away, just simply unplug the hdmi and you should be good to go.
@@MrSwaggernaut83 yes it’s acts just as your ps5 would as you are remote playing your ps5. To fix this if you don’t want your tv to cut on I think you can fix that in your ps5 settings or just removed the hdmi while you’re away.

Generally handheld consoles don’t have as many games as an actual console like ps5 or Xbox. This is good because you can play those heavy games that regular handheld consoles can’t and you don’t have to spend extra for games. I love this. Just trying to find one in stock to purchase it
Exactly man ! Everything is already expensive enough as it is. But yeah I call into Best Buy customer support. That’s how I was able to order. I got lucky lol I was calling and they had one in stock and was able to purchase over the phone.
Furthest I’ve been away was on a 4hr road trip to the mountains. Ps5 connected through WiFi and portal worked flawlessly. I actually played an online Madden game on it and some red dead redemption and a little bit of cod. No issues. Only issue was the tad bit latency I mentioned in the video when playing CoD. Other than that it was perfectly fine.
@@vinceflores9422 It should definitely work. I travel with mine all the time. No matter where I am at, it works flawlessly. Just make sure your internet is up and running at home and youll be fine.
Thanks for the video. There are may things to like but the comfort level is the most outstanding. The screen size, clarity of the screen, and the lightness of the device all contribute.

@@kylebannister1320 I’ve heard that game is pretty tough. May can get another router or something to strengthening the connection in the room maybe. But I get it. That would be just be spending unnecessary money kinda lol
i have had mine for almost a month now, and its great, i like to play games in my down time at work, and normally if i wanted to play my playstation id have to lug the heavy ps5 into work and a tv, but this makes it so much easier, just grab and play, no need for a tv, and since it is a streaming only device, i dont have to worry too much about battery life.
Yeah my ps5 is in my room but sometimes i like to sit at my desk which is a bit awkwardly placed to be playing on the tv. Or ill hang out in the living room when im feeling sociable and chill out there while playing.
If Sony just make it possible to download your game from yr console to play on the go, it would already be awesome. I mean, to make it in a way to play without internet connection.
What's a good wifi??? Bc I can't yse my portal barely at all. It's lag no matter what. I got it on release day and only played it the first week. I fell like I wasted my money. I only bought it for COD
I can play cod with no issues other than the little latency. No lag. Good WiFi is essentially what it is good strength of signal. Have you tried hard wiring your ps5?
@@shortybbarfield444 yeah you can hardwire your internet to your ps5 from your router. Just have to get an Ethernet cord. It’s plenty of videos on UA-cam that do it. I’ve heard that helps. But mine is completely running on WiFi and I have no issues playing cod
Played my Ps5 via the portal on vacation 300 miles away. Perfores flawlessly including when CFB25 came out! WiFi update was good so hopefully they update with Bluetooth next

I was going to get one but found out it doesn’t have Bluetooth for ear pods. The Sony ones costs the same as the portal itself, that’s obscene. Stupid move by Sony.
The WiFi the speakers the Bluetooth the fact your ps5 has to be on too the placement of power button and volume don't get me started about the charge port location battery is kinda poor lagging issues when using hotspot no netflix or UA-cam... BUT I LOVE IT 😂

Yea man if you're playing rpg or any game story driven, you will live it. I hate playing rdr2 on my ps5 now because of the experience playing on the portal
I wish they would added a hard wire line to connect to the ps5 . it would have solved the wifi connection problem. I play with my controller connected , why not with my portal.
originally i thought the idea of having to own a playstation to even use it instead of it being a true handheld gaming device but the more i thought about it the more well....non issue it became think about it the steam deck reguires you to have steam games to work right ? well pc games in general which if you arent already part of that ecosystem/ pc gaming world....thats something you gotta go out and get if you want a nintendo switch you need switch games and so on sure this one requires a console to work but still if you do have that...its a great little machine
It’s an interesting device. I’ve had it for a couple of days now, it’s comfortable and plays my library but I do notice the stutter (PS5 on Ethernet, roughly 500-600mbps) - but it runs okay for a Gen 1 thing. A higher res screen plus another method of streaming games and not via Wifi could fix the delay. Not sure what that could be though 🤷🏻♂️
I’m not against it entirely, I think my biggest reason to not do it is the fact I have to get a specific pair of headphones from Sony if I don’t wanna use the built in speaker.
It really just needs the ability to connect directly to the console for the screen streaming. The ps vita had this. And the connection was superior to wifi.
@@StaticxJFord what I'm saying is the portal get signal from the wifi. The ps5 uploads to internet. Then the portal gets it from there. On ps4, the system could be turned off of wifi, and still directly stream to the vita. With a very good quality and much less lag and whatnot.
For what I'm used to, it's a little heavier. The handheld itself is light compared to what it could be for sure. The only other handheld I've ever had is a 3ds xl and that's more like holding a controller. This is so big I just have to get used to it more. It's definitely light for what it is. That's a massive screen and a dualsense lol.

@@StaticxJFordappreciate it.
@@raider1tk no problem. Hope all is well 🙏🏾. I had a video of how I synced it but I messed around and deleted all the footage
@@damianhunt8980thank you so much for replying with that info. I hope you have a great day.
Do you have your ps5 hardwired to your router or you playing on Wi-Fi and if so how smooth is it on Wi-Fi?
Straight off WiFi. Plays smooth. I’ll
Make a POV type video playing a game on the portal to show it’s smooth
@@StaticxJFord that’s exactly what I wanted to know because I’ll be on home Wi-Fi as well appreciate the reply mines come in on Monday and I’m very excited for this device.
@@2khighlights189 that’s exciting man. Let me know how it goes
How can I play red dead redemption
Gotta have the game on your ps5
@@StaticxJFord i already have it but it is not working
Hi Do you want to test our PS portal charger?
Email me. staticxjford@gmail.com
@@StaticxJFord oh alr ty for the answer
It would be better if they had to raise the screen up instead of putting it down, I think
Like flip the screen up ?
So I had a question if anyone can help me so basically u need to have ur ps5 on to play this right that means if u don’t wanna see ur ps5 on ur tv while playing the portal you need to turn off the TV, but still run the ps5 ?
The Playstation needs to be at least on rest mode to play the portal. It will not connect if the playstation is off. If you do not want your tv on while you are away, just simply unplug the hdmi and you should be good to go.
@@StaticxJFord If you wake the PS5 remotely, I'd assume it doesn't trigger the TV to turn on? I'd hope they at least thought that through
@@MrSwaggernaut83 yes it’s acts just as your ps5 would as you are remote playing your ps5. To fix this if you don’t want your tv to cut on I think you can fix that in your ps5 settings or just removed the hdmi while you’re away.
Nice video brother! Mine shipped from playstation direct today. Im assuming that stand you had it on at the beggining doeent come with it? Lol
all you get is box, instructions, usb c cable and the portal lol. I bought the stand off etsy, link in the description
What internet speed you need to have for good quality?
I’m not sure exact numbers. But long as the connection is stable
Thank you bro for clearing this up for some of us who love the device.
Yes no problem bro. I hate that people so negative and did not even give the device a fair shot.
Facts! I mean Sony did explain what the device was as well. I just got mine a week ago. I have been using it daily and prefer to play my PS5 like this. Than again dad life man 😂
@@Bl4KV4NGUARD 😂 facts though and I think that’s what annoys me the most lol. But yeah I can’t imagine when I become a dad it’s going to be used even More than I already do. lol 💯
@@StaticxJFord haha, trust me bro you will definitely be using it more once you and your wife have kids lol 😆
Thanks for the review! I’m trying to get my hands on one.
appreciate you man 💯
Generally handheld consoles don’t have as many games as an actual console like ps5 or Xbox.
Can you go live on twitch or UA-cam from the portal?
No
Yes you can
Just uploaded video showing how to
How far away have you been from your PS5 and it working and was your PS5 connected by Ethernet cable ?
Furthest I’ve been away was on a 4hr road trip to the mountains. Ps5 connected through WiFi and portal worked flawlessly. I actually played an online Madden game on it and some red dead redemption and a little bit of cod. No issues. Only issue was the tad bit latency I mentioned in the video when playing CoD. Other than that it was perfectly fine.
Thank ya I’m gunna be about 400 miles away from my house I hope it works out
@@vinceflores9422 It should definitely work.
I agree man the comfort level is amazing. It’s more comfortable than holding an actual ps5 remote.
Man I don’t even use my TV anymore. I think it immerses you into the game more
Thanks for the review mate. Mine is coming tomorrow morning. I think ill stick to my ps5 for online gaming and for chilled story games i can use my portal lay in bed. First game i thought to trial the device was Batman telltale start off nice and easy
Have you got it yet ?
@@StaticxJFord I have mate I really do love it but as I feared my weak connection in bedroom rules out challenging games where that .5 sec delay is a killer. Story games, collectibles hunting etc are my main use for it. I'm playing hollow knight ATM very tough game and I do struggle to play it on portal
Seriously though. So convenient and can just chill and lay down on couch or bed and play all night
Yeah my ps5 is in my room but sometimes i like to sit at my desk which is a bit awkwardly placed to be playing on the tv. Or ill hang out in the living room when im feeling sociable and chill out there while playing.
@@cryodragonbane4614 makes sense. Really only time I play at my desk is when I’m streaming. If not. I’m on the portal
Does ur portal lag ??
Bro how much speed needed for running this thing?
Internet speed ?
Im not exactly sure on that number.
Dope review and video! I love my steam deck but ima save up for the portal
I want to try the steam deck tbh
If Sony just make it possible to download your game from yr console to play on the go, it would already be awesome. I mean, to make it in a way to play without internet connection.
That would be clutch fr.
It’s just live streaming from your console. Your console is doing all the work. It’s impossible
how about Sony puts out a firmware update for these disgusting frame stuttering issues! completely unacceptable.
Yes that too. I’m honestly surprise they haven’t released a firmware update yet
@StaticxJFord no I haven't. Idk how to and didn't know u could
@@shortybbarfield444 yeah you can hardwire your internet to your ps5 from your router. Just have to get an Ethernet cord. It’s plenty of videos on UA-cam that do it. I’ve heard that helps. But mine is completely running on WiFi and I have no issues playing cod

Do your games have to be digital on the console to play on this
No you can play whatever the ps5 plays.
Played my Ps5 via the portal on vacation 300 miles away. Perfores flawlessly including when CFB25 came out! WiFi update was good so hopefully they update with Bluetooth next
Right Bluetooth would be so good
I think it's great,means you don't have to buy a separate library of games...what crocs/shoes you wearing,great vid
Exactly man! That’s what a lot of people don’t seem to appreciate! Because I sure do. Know PlayStation will do something like that to make an extra dollar. But these are the echo clog crocs. Very comfortable
Hows the delay when playing nba 2k?
I don’t really play 2k but If it’s anything like Madden. It’s not bad at all I’ve played multiple online games with it.
The ear pods should be the biggest reason this device gets hate, that is absolute pure greed by sony
I was going to get one but found out it doesn’t have Bluetooth for ear pods. The Sony ones costs the same as the portal itself, that’s obscene. Stupid move by Sony.
I agree very stupid move by Sony.
The WiFi the speakers the Bluetooth the fact your ps5 has to be on too the placement of power button and volume don't get me started about the charge port location battery is kinda poor lagging issues when using hotspot no netflix or UA-cam... BUT I LOVE IT 😂
Facts 😂 I can name a few things I hate or things they could have done better BUT i love it!
I travel a lot, so this became a no brainer for me. Only con I can find is there is noticeable lag when it came to multiplayer games
Yeah that and the Bluetooth connection are really only two for me. The others are just nitpicking.
I’m I the only one that feels like the image on the portal is really bad. I know it’s no tv but it bugs me enough to not use it anymore
Wow really? I think the image on it is beautiful. Only real issue is the stutter during gameplay
@@StaticxJFordwill have to give it a try but when I was play GOS it was almost like the render was really bad and things wouldn’t load like facial features.

Just got mine a few days ago, my only regret is not getting it sooner!
Yeah i just bought one. I think it's great for developers because they don't have to make anything different for their games.
Yea that part is true as well
I have my PS5 in the living room and would like to just play my portal before bed in my bedroom. I have pretty strong WiFi and I don’t play multiplayer games. Sounds like this is the right product for me 😅
Yea man if you're playing rpg or any game story driven, you will live it. I hate playing rdr2 on my ps5 now because of the experience playing on the portal
I wish they would added a hard wire line to connect to the ps5 . it would have solved the wifi connection problem. I play with my controller connected , why not with my portal.
Hard wire line to connect to ps5 to the portal ? Or line to connect internet connection to the ps5?

originally i thought the idea of having to own a playstation to even use it instead of it being a true handheld gaming device
but the more i thought about it the more well....non issue it became
think about it
the steam deck reguires you to have steam games to work right ? well pc games in general
which if you arent already part of that ecosystem/ pc gaming world....thats something you gotta go out and get
if you want a nintendo switch you need switch games and so on
sure this one requires a console to work but still if you do have that...its a great little machine
Great way to put it! Cause this is honestly my exact thoughts.
Here to support a fellow new tech enthusiast ❤
Thank you so much 🙏🏾
mine connects to mobile hotspot
Yeah I’ve connected by hotspot before too
It’s an interesting device.
Yeah the stutter was one thing I did forget to mention. But it’s not a big deal to me but I agree with finding another method of streaming.
I’m not against it entirely, I think my biggest reason to not do it is the fact I have to get a specific pair of headphones from Sony if I don’t wanna use the built in speaker.
Yeah I honestly hate that but people have found a way around it but still doesn’t work quite as the same.
You don’t you can use anything with a 3.5mm jack connection
@@YTJXV yes and I’d have to still go out of my way to buy a new pair of headphones because I don’t have any with a headphone jack lol
I would love to get one! I work nights and sometimes it gets really boring this would be great to have! But no Wi-Fi…😫 so it’s pointless for me 🤦♂️
You can get hotspot on your phone.

It’s a dad machine! It’s awesome!
Definitely a niche base device
Getting it tomorrow got an accessory kit coming monday
Put games in performance mode, especially call of duty type games. I promise you it’s a game changer
I’ll try that
It really just needs the ability to connect directly to the console for the screen streaming. The ps vita had this. And the connection was superior to wifi.
You can stream from the portal. It stream the console gameplay. If I’m understanding what you saying correctly
@@StaticxJFord what I'm saying is the portal get signal from the wifi. The ps5 uploads to internet. Then the portal gets it from there. On ps4, the system could be turned off of wifi, and still directly stream to the vita. With a very good quality and much less lag and whatnot.
@@Hopelessthugg oh okay I get what you saying. Yeah that would be good.
~The amount of input delay on this thing no matter how strong my internet connection is.. it's such a disappointment.
It’s not that big for me
This portal is a game changer for me. This is great! It's a little heavy in the hands when playing for a longer time.
Yeah it’s definitely a game changer. I find it very light in my opinion.
@@JonnyBlaze325 I can see that. lol it is a massive fr
I got the portal 4 days ago for £130 and I think it a great accessory I’m usin it more than the ps5 mostly cos the wife uses the bedroom tv most of the time and the kids use the living room tv so the portal is worth havin
That’s awesome man!
