Enjoyed the review. I might note the official weight on the Z M40i is a lot less than mentioned in the video. Also, the cup holders are accessible even when the cover closest to the driver is closed. That means the driver can have a refreshment and a resting place for the right elbow at the same time.
I have went to a bmw dealer before, I saw one the same as this, same color, and it’s gorgeous, yes people make fun of it, some coal it supra, some call it bmw supra, but it looks great
Joe always incredible reviews!! I am so grateful to have a friend like you!! Keep up the amazing work Joe!!! I wear my merch often and love it!! Have a great week and God bless ya!!🚘🚙🙏🏻🚙🚘
I've seen a good handful of these comparisons. I understand its a different car, but there's so much more they could've done. The Z4 is better looking than the Supra. They left out so much out of the Supra saying they're leaving room for the aftermarket companies to make parts. Thats such a shame. They should have just made the Supra we all wanted and deserve. Great video, Joe. Love watchin
Well saying that almost all supra were moded... That's why Toyota left it that way. For people to do what they want. If Toyota added performance parts the prices would be 3-4x the price compared to an aftermarket company
@@JustinAbroad i do agree with you. And I understand the premise. But I still think it could have been a little better. Im 36 years old, so the golden days of acura, Honda etc modded imports was huge in my life. The supra was always a dream much more than anything exotic. I was somewhat disappointed with the new design.
@@JustinAbroad Toyota used that aftermarket bs to keep the price of the car down...like the structure support bars the z4 has them but the Toyota dont but its its clearly the same air box and it lines right up
I personally hate how BMW can never get the cup holders location or size right ever. I love the new Z4 but would like it better with a hardtop like the previous gen.
Well, that is an awesome roadster! There are some similarities with the 04' Z-4, I owned, but with a lot of improvements as well. I was kinda hoping they would still have the convertible hard top available, like the previous Z-4 had. You had the best of both worlds, a convertible and a coupe. Performance in this car has definitely improved from its roots, back in the day. The biggest thing that comes into play for me is the cost of ownership. Maintaining this car is probably very expensive, as is all the BMW models. The Mazda MX-5 is still at the top of my list for 2 seat roadsters though. Affordable to buy and own with just as much fun to drive. Stick an aftermarket turbo in that MX-5 and then you got something! Great job, as usual, Joe. Keep em' comin', thanks!
I was hoping you would drive some with the top up to show if there was a lot of wind noise or not. Great review though!!! Loved the little snake road driving to show the handling!!!
I've brought a z4 m40i the Supra was never a contender just on looks alone. Saying that I don't believe their competitors in the market place, owners who want a z4 etc are into luxurious 2 seater roadsters, the Supra is a sporty coupe never for me anyway a rightful comparison or competitor
Oh! In the UK it’s set out so you can close the drivers side portion and leave the drinks available. The M40i is too of my list for my next car in March. Great vid! Thanks mate.
During the new Supra test drive. The reviewers dynoed the car and the power figures seems to be underrated. The 335 power figure is in fact wheel horsepower and the final figure is 339 whp. So the crank horsepower is similar if not higher than the Z4. Just like there is a full M version coming. The Supra will have the Gazoo Racing editon with more power.
Is there A mechanical reason that you can't have more than 6 gears in a manual transmission?? I notice all the transmissions with like 8 or 9 gears are only in automatic form.
Well... glad to know Tatsuya Tada chief engineer on the GR supra lied to everyone during his interview with car bloggers saying that 1. "we at Toyota designed the indentations on the intake box to fit/ clear for strut braces and we even pre drilled the areas to mount strut braces on both sides for the tuners" hmm really? So why is it that this z4 also has the exact same intake box and indentations on both sides for the strut braces, oh because the BMW Intake box was designed that way by BMW and strut brace points are already drilled out in the manufacturering process for the z4 chassis because the z4 comes with strut braces from factory......That was a BMW design not a Toyota design... 🤦♂️ @10:58..... 2. Tatsuya also lied and said "we also designed the gr supra hood to have 2 latch points because that was an iconic part of the A80 supra so we had to put 2 hood latch points on the new supra as well" oh really...... it looks like the z4 has 2 hood latch points too. You didnt add a second hood latch toyota, BMW already had 2 latch points designed into their hood for this chassis 11:19 lol...
My wife and I have been wanting to get a little convertible sports car. We’ve been doing alot of researching and had decided on the 240i convertible. However, we started also looking at the Z4 and and I’m thinking that the extra $10K or so would certainly be worth it. We don’t need the back seats of the 240i (not usable anyhow) and this would only really be a weekend toy for the summer days. Thanks for this video, really helpful. Only negative is the worry around damage to my driving record and being pulled over so often.
Trust me the z4 is way more worth it than the 240i. I used to have the m240i, the m2 comp, driven the m3/4 both f gen ans the new gen, and the z4 out handles and stays planted at speeds better than all the above cars. It's extremely underrated and weighs from 400-700lbs less than all the above cars
I've done a lot of reading and a lot of watching into the new Z4 m40i as I'm looking at buying and the sister Supra, now from what I understand the Supra is more a fixed head of the z4, example the engine strip away the plastic covers from the Supra you'll find BMW B58. The interior tech of the Supra is idrive 6 from BMW the Z4 gets idrive 7. Then surely the correct way of looking at it is to say the Supra is a fixed head version of the Z4 not the other way around, people may argue semantics but if we are going to in some way use the Supra as in some way a negative comparison for the Z4 then let's at least in hardware terms put it in the correct order 🤔
Mate, drilled rotors are just for show. In fact, because they are prone to cracking, many people change them out for blanks if they are doing track work (if they were fitted as OEM). Otherwise, nice review.
Hello Joe. Hasn’t it been pretty much confirmed that the horsepower ratings for the Supra are extremely conservative? As in BMW rated that engine almost obviously low for marketing reasons. Doesn’t that Supra with much less horsepower and several hundred pounds less weight scoot to 60mph in around 3.3 seconds... Hmmm something is going on here... Also Toyota is known for long term durability and rock solid reliability. BMW not so much... so how is that going to play out?

$20K more for the Z4 than the Supra? Might make sense in the sunbelt. Not so much in Seattle. That's an MSRP comparison, of course and real world prices may differ significantly.

You’ve got the two cars confused. The Supra is a Z4 with a hard top. The engine says BMW in both cars. Nothing says Toyota in this car.

The cars are aimed at different markets, and Toyota was only allowed to use last generation bmw parts not the latest, for obvious reasons.

At 16:22. FYI, the cup holder covers are NOT the same size. The driver size can be closed with the cups in it, thus you can rest your arm on it.

Wow, nice video, Joe. Wish I had the money or my wife's permission to get one, but like they say; "Happy wife, happy life!" lol
I think you have the title backwards
Supra power is underrated I think its closer to the Z4
Its 400bhp
BMW is notorious for underating the power numbers, part of the deal with Toyota may have been that the Z4 has to have a higher number.
At 0:43 you said M30i, but i think you mean sDrive30i.
Had Toyota engineered and developed the new Supra I think it definitely would gotten more traction. In a way this is a win for Honda/Acura/NSX besides the poor timing of the launch of the NSX.

If you’re too ignorant to know and do the research than you don’t deserve an answer, and therefore, you wouldn’t ask.
