Just heard this song live. From about a kilometre away. While in my house. At 11pm. Darryl Braithwaite is 73 and still doing concerts in small rural Aussie towns like Wingham. Good on him.
Music was great in the seventies, and Aussie music was terrific in the 70's. This is the soundtrack of my childhood. Stubby shorts, floppy hats and watching the pajama game when it first came out. Awesome.
Dedicated to my favourite Aussie Cricket legend and broadcaster- Richie Benaud! God Bless Mate! Classic 70's , Aussie bands were really cool in the 70's x
Heard this song in East London South Africa at a cricket game when I was about 10 years old and I believed it was a song about cricket. I thought the lyrics said " howzat You messed about I caught you out Howzat and now that I found your edge its goodbye!!! Lol wow still love it 20 years on
Listen through headphones! The variety and variations of sounds in this are amazing - Very unique sound the start that coninues throughout, moves into a pop song, merges with great orchestral backing, slips in a guitar solo steps it up at the end. I'd say this song is musical genius. Great composition all round.
Richie was master of the 'minimalist' commentary - spoke only when he could really add something. Many of today's sports commentators could take a lesson from him. A true broadcasting legend.
I remember seeing Sherbrt perform. In Townsville in the late 70's,I think. Before they disbanded. They played on the back of a flat bed semi trailer. They were great. And I still love their music to this day, then Daryl Braithwaite's asxwell.
2020 and still rocks!! Love Love Love ! have it on vinyl...play it every week , grew up in the Glorious Glam 70s x Still sounds superb. Very 70s. Love it. เพราะมากครับ ^^ ชอบมากเลย
just before punk broke there was really good music like sherbet, boz scaggs, bryan ferry. punk broke and then dominated, at least for me..lately i have been going back to where my fandom of music started..this is it, and its great..as a kid i had great taste
Did well in their native Australia and in certain parts of Europe, but only peaked as high as No. 61 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts here in America in 1976. A GREAT pop and rock song.
When I hear this song it reminds me of the time I was a kid and had this book about planets and stars, always when I hear this song I remember that book :) I love this song!
I saw Daryl Braithwaite perform last thursday night at the St Kilda Festival. I've seen him twice previously and without a doubt he truly _never_ fails to put on a top show.
Great tune. Came to this tune here by chance, looking for totally different aussie related music, didn't know by any means that I already knew this tune, listened to the verse and found myself getting in 'Ha ha how zat...' cool one
This popped up randomly on my tiktok feed and wow! Memories came flooding back. Me in the back of my dads car aged about 4, it was playing on the radio.
Very good evergreen from Australia. Their only hit in Europe. ชอบตั้งแต่รุ่นๆตอนนี้แวะมาฟังแล้วให้นึกถึงสมัยนั้น55(กูยังไม่แก่น๊าาา) Great recording ... thanks
As a late 90s kid it’s always nice to find new music. I heard this song at a beerfestival in the Netherlands, where the vinyl-dj played it. Unfortunately, I had to Shazam it to find who it was. For lovers of this song, I would recommand the Dutch prog-rockgroup Kayak. Starlight Dancer, Want You To Be Mine and Merlin are their topnotch songs! (Focus and the Dizzy Man’s Band also pretty awesome)
think this was Sherbet's biggest hit , was #1 in both Aust & New Zealand in 1976 , Auckland radio station 1ZM used to thrash it and was also all over Brisbane's 4BC & 4IP .
There's a good many of those one-hit wonders who appeared on the Epic record label since 1971. I think it's the label that holds that track record somewhere.
The British Musicians Union had Sherbet kicked out of Britain after they toured with this hit. Couldn't stand that the 'convicts' were outselling the poms.
Can't get enough of this song...Best times ever... young and bold! :)
Still sounds great in 2023 and everyday. ❤ .Thank you😊

Bass 2 y.a. 1978 inspired Czerwone Gitary on Spiewka Jeglarska. Too no bad. Igo.Moscow
Excellent musicians, great vocal.
Tony Mitchell plays bass on this band. This band was my fav when I was in high school, went to see them many times. Ah good times ! 😊

Classic Australian rock music at it's best
Cool lyrics that have double-meaning references to the game of cricket.
Same story but in Finland
A memorable song, some kind of privileged excellence. All is perfect in place in this song.

Agree..They had quite a few hits before this one..Summer Love, Silvery moon and You've got the gun..

It got a lot of airplay in the Binghamton, N.Y. area, 99.1 WAAL.
