for a science page how do you accept athletic greens to be your sponsor when it doesn't do anything?
Unfortunately it's only available in limited countries
As a 19 year old after leaving a Poole training with recruitment center of Marines I went into the mall and an Asian massage therapist offered me free massage as an attempt to attract me into paying for full treatment. After the free back massage shoulder massage I felt like I was ready to run a 5K again and feeling like I just woke up and showered refreshed in energy physically and mentally. It was also the first professional massage I ever had in my life
47 yrs old - I started weekly deep tissue in May - GAME CHANGER! Combined with regular stretching and mobility work, I've increased performance, increased recovery and advanced mobility. I also use a foam roller post-workout, critical for lack of DOMS (for me)
Somehow we should be able to get CEU or CPD points from watching these videos, this is a great resource for students and qualified professionals. This is such a easy way to learn topics l, maybe you guys should try accredited video lectures for health care professionals if you dont already have a platform for that
DO ONE ABOUT ASSISTED STRETCHING NEXT! My brother is getting his PhD to become a physical therapist and LOVES this stuff. I was and still am a stretch practitioner as well so I know the benefits of it. Would be a cool video! Nutrition research is also something I do, maybe a video on how herbs affect the body too! If you know your stuff ofc :)
Indeed. As a certified massage therapist since 2004, and a zhan zhuang & tai chi qigong practitoner since 1989 which I also teach, Ive experienced countless people benefit from massage sessions. Especially when they are already being proactive about maintaining healthy physical fitness with regular exercise and maintaining a healthy trim weight.
Massage to me is all about the 2 to 3 fold increase in circulation essentially boosting metabolism of muscle tissue cells. Reduces inflammatory signaling, increases mitochondrial biogenesis. Massage is also shown to reduce cortisol on average 30%
omfg you're a life saver. I'm getting ready to do a presentation for a massage therapy course on Sports Massage, and this video is perfect!
Glad it helped!
PLEASE let the therapist work.. the therapist will know what to do once you tell them what your goal is and what you do. Also, PLEASE tell them if youve had any injuries or accidents, the massage will actually harm you more than help you at that point. The therapist doesnt need help, if they need it moved, they will move it. Just RELAX

Changed my will to donate my body to science because of this channel! I noticed the form for the school near me didn't ask what medical conditions I had. I guess it doesn't matter and/or part of the learning experience is discovering it for yourself?! Anyway, thanks for the educational videos. Much of it is over my head but I still enjoy watching!
Not just Pro... When I was in the Air Force I worked Parttime at the base gym doing warm ups and massage for powerlifters and guys who participated in sports that day.
When I was younger i dated a massage therapist. As a powerlifter she hated working on me because working through the muscle was a lot of work. Now I keep a percussion massager around when i lift heavy. It feels nice on my quads and hips.
As a physiotherapist I do this all day mixed with other techniques. Really effective 😊. Also to support my patients rehabilitating and regaining muscle mass.
Great info thank you very much!
Your channel is excellent! I would love to see one regarding the factors of urine analysis. I have had three episodes of surgical removal of kidney stones, and since have cloudy brown urine, a GFR of fifty to 71, high creatine, and frequent bladder infections. I do see both a nephrologist and urologist.
Would have liked a post performant massages as well! Nice video 😊
Hi guys, Love your shows. I’m a board certified massage therapist in Ontario, Canada for 15 years. I always smile when I hear “sports” massage. Massage therapy encompasses everything you “briefly” but well explained in your video. What differentiate “sports” massage from therapeutic massage ? Would be great if you could do another scientific video on this matter. ❤
Hey there, I am in GTA area. Im looking for a massage therapist atm. Do you have website or name of business that I can check it out?
Sports massage simply means that you're doing it for the benefit of your athletic career/habits.
Like he explained in the video, either to recover from an event or to prepare for one, rather than a random relaxation opportunity.
From what I remember in school a “sports” massage is kind of quick, like 20 min or so. As mentioned in the video, it can be fast and rhythmical to stimulate muscles and get them ready for performance. Therapeutic in my opinion can be a recovery or like a tune up if that makes sense. Used to manage trigger points, adhesions, high resting muscle tension, etc. I am also a RMT in Ontario and love talking about these kind of stuff. Also feel free to correct me if I missed something
Thank you for this amazing and usful video.
I just wish you make another video about the benefits of massage
Noted!😁
As a person with fibromyalgia I can’t express enough the benefits of sports therapy
Also what is your take on acupuncture
Rolfing is a cure.
Informative, as always-thanks! @TheAnatomyLab, what about the timing of massage before or after exercise? E.g. are there studies that suggest an optimal time window for recovery massage after an event, i.e. not too soon and not too long after finishing the event? Or how long or soon before a run would an "activation" massage be most effective?
CrossFit Games Athlete here and you have nailed it. More people need to know when and what type of massage to get relative to their sport. Excellent video...as expected. Keep them coming.
CrossFit isn't a sport 😟
@@escyper it’s a great debate
thank you for the video, I always wandered what were the differences of the types of massage. Best
Glad it was helpful!
that was a great topic !
Sir please make a video on how to maintain collagen level in skin. Thanks and Regards.
Great stuff as always.
Glad you enjoyed it
WHAT A FANTASTIC VIDEO SO GOOD WELL EXPLAINED THANK YOU BR0 ❤
🙌
Great video! And yet, most of the time I get “invited” to give massage to athletes the pay I would receive is a thank you and “you can pass your cards out!” 20 years practicing and thankfully never had to take one of those offers. All the athletes I see are just referrals from my regular patients.
How about ice and heat for recovery with massage have you done a video on that please.
My fav topic when it comes to my training.
👏
Great video! Like it
What about facia scraping?
The Masseuse uses a smooth metal tool to scrape over an area.
The skin becomes very red and discolored.
Looks awful, it is said to be beneficial.
Vibration is an incredible tool and I wish it didn’t have the stigma of only being used for sexual health, especially in a negative way. The only difference between a Theragun and a Hitachi Magic Wand is location and intention.
That said - massage and manual therapists are not sexual service providers and that connotation also needs to be broken.
I'd be interested to read where you got the idea that other types of massage, besides sports massage, can lead to injury. I have yet to see a study that confirms this. Decrease performance, sure. But increase chance of injury is something I have not seen in literature. Thanks and I appreciate your content!
cant speak in a context for sports massage. But massaging deep tissue can dislodge blood clots, its why its discouraged during pregnancy, I assume itd be the same for those with similar known existing conditions.
8:43 probably where I went wrong being avid stretcher while being carpenter. Good knowledge if I had it sooner. Lol.
Still can't express how much I appreciate massage and stretching even being inexperienced.
I've gotta watch that foam roller episode. Been hesitant because of past and recent injury and health but need to test it as I never have and it does seem appealing.
Just out of curiosity; first time on your channel so you may have explained it somewhere else.. I can't help but wonder why some massage technique names are French? Is there some historical reason that the french names were kept instead of simply being translated?
Thanks for sharing all this knowledge!! I'm starting to learn myofascial release techniques and I can definitely relate to some of what you said :)
I was wondering if you could make a video about hidradenitis suppurativa?
I'd like to know more about the benefits of lymphatic drainage massages. Is there any scientic evidence to support to the many claims that it can relieve symptoms of lymphedema and improve the function of immune system, as well as aid post excerise recovery.
I’m also very interested in this. Especially the idea that massages to the face will improve lymphatic drainage and therefore improve the aesthetics of the face.
As a massage therapist who also uses other physiotherapeutic techniques (kineziotaping, cupping, FDM), thank you for this video! Most of the things said and shown are true in my experience, and I could also learn a few things that can I apply in my practice, and helped me to look at certain aspects of massage from a different point of view! :)
Do you think the video would have been better if it was a collaboration with a massage parlour?
Considering how accurate and detailed these informations were about the different techniques, the effects and their recommmended usage, I'd say they most definitely contacted an actual therapist (if not multiple) to write the script for this video.
I was missing only one aspect, and it's how the patient recieves (from a sociological point of view) the treatment. They touched on it briefly when they said "some athletes feel like a good massage before exercise is a must, part of the routine, in a superstitious way", and here I can add that you can be the best educated, well experienced, most well known massage therapist in the world, if your patient for whatever reason doesn't feel comfortable getting a massage, you'll cause more harm than good.
I'm also a psychology student btw :D
xD as a massage therapist, my clients call me a "body mechanic" I primarily focus on repetitive stress injuries, chronic pain, and people with Trauma & autoimmune issues (massage reduces the intensity of symptoms and increases the amount of time between flareups).
Thanks for watching and sharing your anecdote Body Mechanic! 😂 We appreciate it!
Great video!! Both of you are good teachers! Happy Thanksgiving (its late i guess)
Happy late late late thanksgiving to you too!
Brother your videos are very good
Thanks for watching!
4:00 Are adhesions the same thing as muscle knots, which I understand to be a region of muscle tissue that has stayed contracted.
Adhesions can mean a couple different things but in this case it is the same as muscle knots! They can also be called trigger points. There is lots of different research/theories on what they actually are. At least that’s what I’ve been told in school. (For massage therapy)
@@jadepatel1814 Thanks Jade! Does this jive with what you've been taught

Really interesting video! I'm currently studying to become a registered massage therapist
Best of luck!
Make a video on wet cupping.
General question:
My Daughter received a Lower Lumbar Puncture as a newborn.
Now, 23 years later, she has developed a cystic deformation between L5 and S1.
This is causing pressure on the S1 nerve root.
I am very suspicious of the puncture wound.
Do have any thoughts?
Thanks

Please do A video about all the risks associated with chiropractic adjustments! Rip Debbi, 1982-2017. ❤
My physiotherapist does not provide any massage, she said this is not a spa. Just practice better postures and mouvements.
Weird. Before I basically fixed my backpain for the most part , via growing muscle, I needed massages period. Nerves would pinch. I knew that I just did something again that wouldn't be fine for at least a week or even longer. Unless i get a good massage
Hey, that's all well and good, but what about the people who have static postures/sedentary lifestyles and not only damage those muscles from overuse but may harm the compensatory muscles the body recruits afterwards. The same goes for someone who may have been injured, e.g. a knee/ankle injury (sports as an example) early in life and kept playing or even stopped and developed compensatory strategies over time. That seems to encompass a larger audience than those using massage techniques to boost performance.
You described my issues perfectly lmao.
Not any kind of pro here. But. Well. I sit on a simple wooden chair because doofus me would rather buy another camera lens than a chair. Thing is. Lean back. What happens? If you do that like me legs locked under the chair you'll notice your abs are tight. Your back relaxes. So. I think leaning back on a comfy chair where that doesn't compromise the upper back is probably good. From time to time. I got some pretty noticable spinal erectors and I can immediately feel them softening up
This might be a dumb question, but does the direction in which you massage matter? Should you message in the same direction the blood flows? Could veins become distended/varicose if you massage in the wrong direction?
Varicose veins are a contraindication. One would not get massaged on the veins only above it bringing the flow towards the heart
But massage in general will not cause them to become distended… and generally massage is done guiding the blood flow back to the heart. -a licensed massage therapist
Come to Ayurveda you can understood it sure
I'm a massage therapist, we are trained that after we ar finished massaging an area to "flush" it out meaning going from the distal part (hands, feet) to the proximal part (hip or shoulder joint) because the veins return deoxygenated blood to the heart and also lymph fluid. They have valves in them so that the blood or lymph flows in one direction which is back from the pherphial area(s) to central part of the body if that helps answer your question :)
*Loads up p**nhub*
Justin: it's gonna be.... An oily one
I'm really inclined now to start doing massages more often
👏👏👏👏
Can putting ice pack on body ease muscle soreness?
Ice causes the tissue to compress/tighten which can lower the risk of strain and reduce inflammation. But you'll still likely ache some and the tissue regenerates.
Avoid ice, just stretch frequently and invest in a massage gun. Inflammation is the key to recovery. Ice should only be used for painful injuries to numb pain. Other than than that it delays blood cells to circulate and initial inflammation causing the injury to heal slower. That is why you should only ice something 20 mins/every hour until you feel the pain lessen. (*Within the first 48 hours the injury start, works best)
No ice. No yoga. No repetitive activities. No tight clothes or socks.
Use heat, castor oil for 20 minutes a day and 20 minute walk a day. This helps blood enter into muscles and forces out disease and damage.
Will have to try this
Makes video about sports massage
*shows clips of Swedish massage 😅
maybe i have been looking wrong but there wasnt any explanation with the use of bodies to show the phsycical effects..that is what i come here for to see the choices you make in life what is means to the body..this was just a motivatinal speech
Could you Guys make a video about how anesthesia works on the Brains and the body?
We will add it to the list. 📝
I do competitive pole and cycling classes and for some reason i can't get massages. My back rebounds and the tightness and pain come back in spades. 🤷🏽♀️
Tried strength training? Deadlifts for reps. Definitely don't do anything comparable to pole dance. Ain't cycling competitive at all but all that happened last time I cycled105km was an abs cramp at some point.
I really wish health insurance treated massages as medicine; it’s not just about ‘treating’ yourself once in a while, especially for those of us with chronic MSK pain
BOOM
I use a therapeutic massage gun.
I don't like strangers touching me.
Saying something inapropriate makes you a massadge-therapist
Can you guys cover what mercury poisoning does to the body?
In the sport of weightlifting you want the increase in range of motion

And his is why it is so important that the massagetherapist has an education! In Sweden "massuse" is not a protected titel, so anyone can call the self a massuse, that sucks!

Cross-sh*t is the dumbest thing. You take compound movements and load them with weight and lift them as fast as possible. No wonder a majority of my rehab clients were cross-sh*tters.
Too much fluff in the video
always knew that a massage is good for my body. Especially a thai massage with happy ending in the early morning, boosts my performance for the entire day.

😂😂😂
in moderation yeah
Not healthy its make weak sex organ and nervous system and various health problems
Please duude... really ?..🤔
There's nothing unhealthy about masturbation
Usually your videos have some reference to studies that back up the claims. This video was seriously lacking that. “Generally speaking” , “is believed to be” , “can be beneficial” are all phrases used a lot in this video. Not saying massage therapy isn’t effective but I usually come to these videos for analysis that I can’t get elsewhere. Disappointing.
That's because people are different and can have very different results from one to another. So it's hard to have physical evidence on something like massage therapy
There are a lot of variables to this, much more older research and no real interest or profit from newer research.
Massage therapy works, if it didn’t you wouldn’t see being performed on Olympic athletes, NHL players, NFL etc.
Subjective and objective experience is sufficient report.
