  • February 1, 1981 - After being drafted 15th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1978, forward Mike Mitchell had risen to stardom by his third season, averaging close to 25 points and 6 rebounds a game, earning the first and only All-Star selection of his career. Playing in front of his home fans at Richfield Coliseum, Mitchell scored 14 points in just 15 minutes of work.
Less than a season later, Mitchell was dealt to the San Antonio Spurs where he went on to become one of the franchise's best players of the pre-David Robinson era, averaging 20 points per game in over six seasons in Texas.
Mitchell's professional career took a series of interesting twists beginning in the late 80's. After leaving the Spurs in 1988 to join an Italian team in Europe, Mitchell briefly returned as a late add to San Antonio's 1990 playoff roster.
Mitchell's NBA comeback was short-lived. At age 34, it was presumed his pro career was on the brink of completion. However, Mitchell went on to play nine more years of professional basketball back in Italy, where he became acquainted with the game of a young Manu Ginobili, who would go on to figure prominently in guiding Mitchell's former team in San Antonio to four NBA championships.

would later play with my Spurs. wow, back when the All-Star game was serious and exciting, no fancy looking all-star game court.

He was more like 6'5 or 6'6. Saw him in person a few times. They exaggerated his height.
