  • Broadcast television went all digital in the US in 2009. Amateur Radio fast-scan television isn't required to switch to digital, but there are some advantages to doing it. The primary downside is cost. DATVexpress addresses that issue.
Ken Konechy W6HHC and Charles Brain G4GUO collaborate over WebMeeting and Skype to make this remote presentation on the state of Digital ATV at the 2011 ARRL/TAPR DCC in Baltimore.

@vermontcreekbed - You're right - I shoot the screen with a third camera, and sometimes zoom in on stuff with one of the other cameras. Several reasons. Replacing the shots from Powerpoint is time consuming. But more important, the presenters often either use a laser pointer and highlight things, or walk right up to the screen and point things out. I do usually color-correct the screen (which shows up very blue on video balanced for people) when it's a "screen-only" shot. KN4AQ

@KN4AQ Thanks Gary for the explanation. I did not consider extra cameras, usually I only have one camera but more than one make a lot of sense. I noted that the lighting was right down enhancing the screen most times when I an recording the screen it is usually very washed out by artificial or ambient light.
    Cheers, VK3WWW Jack.

@vermontcreekbed "most times when I an recording the screen it is usually very washed out by artificial or ambient light" - That's the case with my recordings, too. When you see the screen in the wide shots, it's usually washed out and blue. The "mostly screen" shots get color corrected, including adding contrast, just to look nicer. All to make ARVN videos stand out against the crowd.

Nice talk! Looking forward to getting my hands on some of the hardware when it's ready.

Nice Presentation Gary. It looks like you took the video direct from the data projector screen. In your case it works well. I have always found it an issue and prefer the PPT file or in the case of a video conference or SKYPE contact a screen recording is preferred. Keep pumping out the videos.
