Magical and awesome. I like that Mike is a link between XTC, Steve Vai and Zappa who happen to be some of Chanan's most favourite artists. My favourite quote from Mike about improvising is "You're always a half step away from something that works" :)
I have been a fan of Mike since the 90's, as a teenage Zappa fanatic I would mail order his albums to the UK, once we even bought the US VHS and had to buy a US VHS player to go with as the UK ones were not compatible! A lifetime of music and wonder from this amazing dude. Thanks
Thank you Chanan. Hoping and praying to every power of the universe that you and Mike can collaborate on many projects together. Just saw Mike playing the Lava Drops guitar at several shows in Los Angeles. I’ll be waiting here in NYC , ready to welcome you with open eyes and ears. Maybe you can make it for ProgStock 25’
1:40 not even 2 minutes in and everything about this is amazing. 13:27 an irl friend of mine made a fretless guitar and i'd never see anyone else play one until this video. such cool and unique sounds, i already showed him this video :)
Had to return here for a toast, I just opened a bottle of Helsinki Akvavit, made by The Helsinki Distilling Company, I was gifted this by a relative from Finland, where my relative, Mike Keneally and myself all share 63rd and 62th birthdays on the 3rd, 11th and 20th of this month . The time has come to open, sip and toast to great friends , family and their good times in Finland.
Nice guitar! Per your comment about it being light and good for traveling, have you ever tried a headless guitar? There are models out now by Ibanez, Strandberg, Kiesel, etc. I got a Kiesel Zeus over the summer and it's amazingly light and handy. It came in a sturdy case that's really compact and I've been assured it will fit into an overhead airplane bin. I'm sure that would be the case with the Ibanez and Strandberg models as well.
nice to hear you 2 together! playing outdoors in the cold, though: i used to do that busking backwhen & couldn't afford to keep up with the brittle strings that snapped on a bend or when a sharp attack was inflicted on'em with a pick. did you just not show those moments or was there some air quality reason this didn't happen? Mike, in particular, inflicts some pretty extreme bends & attacks & i kept expecting a snap that never came.
saw him twice live. back then. vai. oblivious but shocked "yes..thats vai...but hows THAT guy? the rudess of guitar.. but now same level on keys....rudess tapps like a maniac.... great. THX

This quote is so valid.👍🎶
Stay on the wrong one if you hit a wrong note is funny
I’ve just spent forty-minutes watching two fellas noodling in the woods. And it was brilliant.

A fair guess would be that you have Soap Scum Remover on VHS, sweet
@@garytitone853 spot on!
It’s absurd seeing him, one of my musical heroes for over 30 years, play at that lake because my family’s summer cottage is there!
It's "The Arts"
(with Chanan Hanspal and Mike Keneally.) Beautifully filmed and recorded in Finland. Amazing!
Two fabulous dudes making fabulous music!!!
So good these two collaborated... so unexpected and good.
What a real treat from two of my favourite musicians - inspiring on all levels!
Frodo and Gandalf have let themselves go!
This is brilliant by the way! Thanks.
Yes!!! Love Keneally and that you're talking with him. Now should all go make a record with Andy P!
That is just incredible! What a calm and peaceful journey you had together!
Fretless Lava Drop in its natural habitat for sure!
Thank you Chanan. Hoping and praying to every power of the universe that you and Mike can collaborate on many projects together.

Mike is awesome. Met him and Bryan Beller on a small tour through West Michigan. They jammed with my friends the Space Brothers.
wow- the musician in the woods at 1:12 looks a lot like Don Van Vliet!
amazing musician - thnx for posting
Hyvää itsenäisyyden päivää
Mike is truly incredible.
Glad to know that master guitarists also fiddle around with Blackbird like the rest of us.
This is amazing, all the times we talked about Mike back in 2007 this is incredible.
Wow! Just, wow.

Yes, fretless guitar is really rare. Nguyen Lê, Ron Thal and occasionally Guthie Govan are some dudes to check out for that.

This is so cool, Chanan
Truly excellent.
Also... cool pickguard on Jesse !
Next time I'm jogging in the woods I'll keep an eye out watching and listening for Jazz musicians giving an impromptu behind the bushes.
24:30 ff is so beautiful ❤
I do regret i missed the gig in Telakka...The both of you are so inspiring!
Thx for sharing this great collaboration and experience in the woods of Finland.

From the sublime to the ridiculous, I gotta ask, Mike: Is that a Mexican poncho or a Finnish poncho?
