I used my father's lens to tell a Father's Day story. What a perfect reason to use my Panasonic S5.

  • Forget the new camera reviews. The lens reviews. The Panasonic S9. The Panasonic GH7. Forget the UA-cam drama. The perfect use of any camera is to tell meaningful stories. The perfect lens would not only be the best focal length to cover your entire story, but also the perfect lens would be a lens somehow emotionally connected to your story. In this case, one of the lenses I found in my father's camera bag after he died. I tell this story at 28mm, manually because it's a vintage lens, and I love manual focus. It keeps me a part of the process. Immerses me in my filmmaking and my storytelling. The best use of a camera and lens combination is to connect them and hopefully make art that makes people feel something. I hope this video accomplishes that.

A foster father has to have extra bonus points as he is a father not by chance of nature but by his own decision and determination.
Thanks for sharing your story, it’s always a pleasure hearing you.

I stumbled upon your channel while looking for reviews of the Lumix S5 (ended up going with a Fuji) but I stuck around for the stories. I don't know what it is, but something about the way you talk is very captivating.

Hello, Good Sir. I was about to surf the YT for information about the Lumix GH5. (Current EM1 Markiii owner) And your video has stood out and caught my attention. Leading me to this video. I must say... from a foster kid to another, this was very heartfelt. Hearing you speak and based on your frequency, seems like you have overcome a lot throughout your journey. Thank you, so much for sharing your story. I am very delighted to have stumbled upon your channel. Hope all is blessed.

@@aurorasigma Ahh, thank you so much. I think we all go through a lot from day-to-day, nothing is easy, but at the same time, it’s really important to find some joy in every day. You should check out my movie The Center of Distance since your background is relatable to mine. I think you might find it really interesting. There’s a link in the description of this video. Thanks so much for coming through, and for the kind words, I really appreciate that and I don’t take any of it for granted. Thanks again, and have a beautiful day.

This is so beautiful. Not sure if you remember me from high school. This popped up in some feed today. I never knew you were adopted. Sounds like your father was a beautiful man. He gave you life and love, and showed you what it is.

Also -- I have had existential "meaning of life" thoughts and questions ever since I can remember - it's nice to know other people whom you never knew what was going on inside has them too... :)

Thanks for sharing these stories. They were quite powerful and moving. And it sounds like your foster father was a good man. Especially when he acknowledged your view of his joking at your mom's expense. That was an impressive moment a lot of people would love to experience.
I was taken aback by the coaches. The baseball coach told you to stop working out, but, didn't give you a reason why. And your basketball coach took you out of five games without telling you why until you approached him and asked. Both of these coaches are not doing their jobs by punishing you without even a heads up on why. So sorry you had to experience that.
I'm so glad I discovered your channel. You create the most meaningful videos I've seen on UA-cam.

The baseball coach was filled with his own ego. An overinflated view of himself. The basketball coach took me out after hitting five straight shots in a game, and never put me back in that game or any other game after that, and ultimately when I asked him what happened, he asked me to turn in my uniform. Because he couldn't believe that I would actually question him. Another maniacal egomaniac. Narcissist. And my father was a great example of how human we are, and how beautiful it can be when we're allowed to grow and change. And the effect that can have on people who are watching you. Inspiring to say the least, for all of that, he was a great man. BECAUSE of his flaws. Thanks so much for coming through and for the kind words, I really appreciate that.

This grade looks amazing.. I think the best I saw from you. Don't know if that is the lens or you changed your style of grading but this looks fabulous.

Thank you so much. To be honest with you, I just exposed properly and I just made sure I put everything in the proper color space in da Vinci resolve. I shot in Vlog, as I always do. I really didn’t mess with the image at all other than that. :-) I think this is a great example of sometimes we just get in there and tweak too much, because I basically just shot in Log, put it in the proper color space and left it alone. The other thing that’s really wild is that it was the worst lighting possible. The sun directly over my head, beating on all of my baldness. But I agree, I love the way it looks. I think it has a lot to do with the S5, meaning the original, and also my Minolta Telesor lens is an incredible lens. I also used the cheapest ND filter. A K&M from Amazon. Crazy. :-)
