I first surfed Witch's Rock in 1994. I rented a 4X4 Toyota truck and drove to Santa Rosa Park where Witch's Rock is located. I spent a week in a tent on the beach - caught fish every day for my meals - solo surf sessions, with the occasional surfer or two. I've been there many times in the 1990s. Now, unfortunately, every kook and their brother can pay to stay in a "surf camp" and rent a boat for the day to surf there - ya, great. I was there in the day of no cell phones - no computers - no internet - no cushy surf camps . Just a map and a passport and a hell of a lot of know-how.
I drove there in 1999 and it sucked. How consistent is that spot? I only had one day there. Overall I felt like Costa Rica was overrated. I’ve had way better surf in California
@@andrewferguson8032 I've been to Costa Rica 10 times - won't go back - too many people in the water. I've surfed Witch's Rock several times - HUGE surf - never seen that place go flat - we slept in a tent there for about a week the last time I was there. I first went to El Salvador in 1993. I've been there 11 times. It too has become a bit crowded, but still it's the best wave for the money and very few surfers most days. I have taken as many as 4 or 5 extra boards in my quiver and I gave them all away to the local surfer-wanna-bees. Leashes, wax, t-shirts - I've given them all away to the locals over the years . I like to stay in La Libertad and venture out, or just surf the point in town when its firing. Try El Salvador - less crowded than California for sure!
@@BigTex347 Thanks for the great info! There was some size when I went to Witches Rock, but no shape. It was just closing out. Complete bummer. I’m not big on traveling far for crap like that. My 2 best trips were Pichilemu in Chile (super long left point break) and Tacones in Mexico (super long left). Can you tell I’m goofy foot?
@@andrewferguson8032 Never been to Chile - it's definitely on my bucket list - but I surfed Pico Alto in Peru a couple times. Stayed there for a month the last time. It's a HUGE wave that breaks about a mile off shore. It can kill you if your not ready for huge, cold, heavy surf. Surfed up and down the Peruvian coast - went to Machu Picchu each time I was in Peru - that's definitely worth the trip. I did the 7-day Inca Trail walk to Machu Picchu - mind-blowing trip - I highly recommend it. My first surf trip to California was in August 1973 - stayed 6 weeks. A few of us rented a beach house on the strand in Hermosa Beach. Surfed from Mission Beach all the way to Ventura County Line, and every place in between. I used to visit my brother in Huntington Beach about 4 times a year (starting in about 1979), but now I'd rather travel to El Salvador and mostly have waves to myself.
Glad you're back mein Freund. I bought my nephew a blade for Christmas and showed him some of your videos. He was in awe. I then showed him your reply to one of my comments about the music that you use. At age 11, he thought I was the coolest uncle on planet earth. I am not sure if I am, but thanks for providing that moment in the sun.
Every time I been to witches and ollies I was pretty much in a canoe with an engine lol. I found other spots in CR to venture too when i go but if you can score it right its fun waves....especially Ollies.
Hoi Nick! Your my favorite pro free surfer. BaRaw, between you and Mason Ho it looks like nobody has more fun doing what id want to do. I'm old and coming back from injuries and a long lay off and I got 4 months more probation before I'm a free man again. Gonna kick it off with a surf trip to El Zonte, El Salvador 🇸🇻. Can't wait but will and videos like yours keep me stoked with hopium. Aloha from the home of AI FOREVER. Creature
I was there over xmas break and new years. Did not surf witches, just stayed around Langosta and Tamarindo. It was super small compared to OBSF this winter, but everyone there was like omg it's so big like overhead. Funny how your perspective changes after you get used to a wave. It was maybe 1 foot hawaiian.
I'm in the Southern Zone of CR now. Prefer this area to the North, much greener here. Good swell coming this way and the left point breaks will light up! Pura Vida Nic and Crew.

Did you score Ollie's Point and the Labyrinth, too?
Labyrinth is a sneaky Gem! Those rocks are no joke!
Been there when it's bigger and when it's smaller. Lot's of failure and a bit of glory for this kook. Awesome spot. Pura Vida!

Love Witch's. Pat's right about the crocs. They come out of the estuary at low tide. Other than that place is sick. All day offshores! Sick Nic!
Sick waves indeed

Classic Day. One of the best spots in CR to catch the NW swell. Pura Vida!
do people jump off the rock into the water for cliff jumping?
Not really
