- Learning to solder properly and ultimately getting one of these done myself has been a goal of mine for some time. This short video hits the highs and lows of my first DCC/Sound installation.
I installed a TCS Wow Diesel kit in an HO Scale Stewart VO-1000 locomotive. I'll touch on what I learned, tools I never knew I needed, and a few problems I encountered and how I solved them. Stay tuned until the end to see her run in front of some completed scenery!
Wow man .SS 1 is so ultra slow. Lovn it. You can always get a loco to run faster but it is hard to get a loco to run so slow. Beautiful.I have always been a loksound type of guy, but I am sowly getting converted. TCS have really got the BEMF sorted.
I think its hard to go wrong with either brand, I just happen to be partial to TCS. The Stewart Loco runs like a watch even without the decoder...so I think both a high end motor and a high end decoder come together to make the magic!
TCS have become my favorite decoders.
to be fair, I don't have much to compare it to that's not the first gen sound technology from 15 years ago, but so far I really like them too!
So I looked this video up since you mentioned it. I haven't heard TCS Wow Sound yet. You did a very good job on your installation and it sounds pretty good but these videos never do the sound any justice. I have had TCS non sound decoders in the past and never had an issue with them. I am curious to see what you choose to do on your 2nd locomotive. Nice loco and great video!
Hey Jason - thanks for checking it out. There's another video where I discussed the install on the first RSC-2, which I did after this Baldwin.
Is that motor made by the Canon camera company?
I have no idea - the kit is a Stewart Model, probably from the 90s. the motor runs very smooth.
I just finished performing this same install and I can barely hear the sound. Did you drill holes in the shell or speaker enclosure?
I didn’t - do you have the volume turned up? You can do that via audio assist. Other thoughts would be to test with another speaker?
@@johnarthur6302 I’ve got it maxed. Not sure what the deal is. I haven’t got any extra speakers on hand at the moment unfortunately. Reached out to TCS for help… odd though for sure
@@Stoker58 is it louder without the shell on?
@@johnarthur6302 no its almost inaudible with the shell on
@@Stoker58 sorry meant is it the right volume with the shell OFF?
