love watching these music producers and musicians in general react to the boy$.. as much as i love the music, i always myself stopped and replayed certain parts to pick out what im hearing.. its funny to me that you praise this whole production whilst $crim was heavy off drugs during these times.. it shows that this man is capable of things out of our touch. everything you hear is on purpose and meant to latch your attention.. with the lyrics, sound effects, the beats, chops and screws, samples and influence it’s all tied in by these two. i love the community as much.. people are understanding when it comes to reacting and the *59 community never fails to help inform the reactors to what they’re exactly hearing. all in all, it’s a good thing that’s happening and we are blessed to be hearing these two guys from new orleans do their thing
Thanks man! I'm just a hobbyist musician though haha :) But yeah, it's always amazing to find musicians who're able to craft such unique sounds. What astounds me is when you find out that some musicians have been able to write absolutely fantastic songs at like age 20 lol
The boys are by far my favorite artists of all time. Their production is just so unique. Scrim does all of the production on all of their projects, with he exception of a couple EPs. Please delve deeper into them. (You'll blow up too, haha)
The "I No Longer Fear The Razor Guarding My Heel" tracks are a saga that they've done over the years each with their own theme and style. Originally, Razor 4 wasn't going to be on this album, but it was a bonus track for the fans. Basically, the concept of the Razor sagas is 3 songs into one big song with transitions in between each song. I'd definitely check out I No Longer Fear The Razor Guarding My Heel 1 through 5 because the transitions, production and vocals are much better than Razor 4. Some of their best work imo. Great reaction and analysis btw❗️👍
That's so fucking rad! One of my favorite artists, Hungry Lights, also does this with his albums - Every one of them starts off with an instrumental called Aphotic Currents 1 through 4. It's a super cool concept haha And thanks man!
they also do a Series of songs parts 1-5 of Kill yourself Part 1 -5 and they always have one verse in every single song that is the same but each time is completely different
Ruby can really sing, he has his own solo project and I think you should check it out it is DUCKBOY - “tragic love songs to study to [vol. 5}” and “existential hymns for the average sigma (Volume 9)”
If you want a more cohesive album listening experience you should really listen to “Sing Me a Lullaby, My Sweet Temptation”. It release in 2022 and is a few years after Scrim (deeper, more gritty voice and their main producer) completely sobered up. IWDINO is stated to be his most hated album because of what he was going through when he made it, being heavily drugged up and more depressed than ever. Ruby (more melodic and sing-songy) shortly stopped using heavy drugs shortly after Scrim (around 2021) and SMALMST has a completely different feel and overall vibe and message comparatively. Love the reaction man, keep it up!
Carrollton is super popular bc it was a single for the album, their singles are almost always the most played tracks from the albums bc the more casual music listeners usually listen to the singles as well as the fans
also fun fact war time all the time is from the perspective of a war veteran turned mass shooter, so your comment about getting shot at is accurate lol
i absolutely the razor series. every other part of the series has individual songs with their own titles, spectated by various sound snippets. the fourth one is the only one that the song titles aren’t really talked about. in order they are: 1. NO SALIVATION FOR THE PROMISE OF SALVATION 2. TRY HOWLING AT THE MOON WHILE BEING STRANGLED 3. MISSED MY CUE FOR CURTAIN CALL
also, i know people have told you that the razor songs are a series that each consist of three songs, but i haven’t seen anybody tell you the titles for this one (the other ones are all separated and you can see the titles but not this one). the first part is “no salvation for the promise of salvation,” second part is “try howling at the moon while being strangled,” and the last part is “missed my cue for a curtain call.” they have a lot of very interesting titles, and the razor series is known for having long and very poetic titles
I love how in depth you are with all the songs. I think you should react to some of the newer stuff. I recommend Stop staring at the Shadows. Its a really majestic album, much love from Chicago!
To me their newest album ”Sing Me A Lullaby, My Sweet Temptation” is their best one. I dont like this one as much because how fucked up on drugs especially Scrim is… this was his last album fucked up before he got sober in 2019
@@dyver123i think everyone has different opinions on their albums. my top 5 from them is: 5. sing me a lullaby, my sweet temptation 4. now the moon’s rising 3. 7th or st. tammany 2. my liver will handle what my heart can’t 1. yungdeathlillife
You should definitely look at the lyrics they bring so much more to the songs yes they will be depressing but thats them expressing what they've gone thru in life also you should check out their project with Travis barker live fast die whenever it's a way more metal vibe
you really gotta listen to their older shit, and it will make the new shit so much more dynamic on how they tie their old shit in instrumental wise and and vocally. truly a continual masterpiece always in the making.
The deeper mopey voice is scrim it’s from drugs fun fact he makes most there beats and also hates this album because he was so high he doesn’t remember making most of it
the formula and repetitive typa sound is normal in phonk/memphis because of all the sampling and the historic context of these genres rooting back to the 90s where producers only got a couple drum machines and samplers to work with which didn't allow much variation and forced them to creatively use what they have and play with the vocals. I love this shit and the repetitiveness doesn't bother me at all. If you want to listen to some memphis rap from the 90s I'd really recommend "Ashes Off My Blunt" by Guice Edit: wdym you're tired of the drums? It's hip-hop and they used different samples in every beat ☠
I love watching people react to SB, im a die hard fan and found them back in 2017. Like people have pointed out this album is hated by scrim because of how drugged up and depressed he was during its production but both scrim and ruby are clean now. Also i think you would enjoy Rubys solo punk project under the name 'Duckboy' and the Boys have few heavier songs like ultimate $uicide and Exodus which both have heavy metal like screaming. Also they did an EP with Travis Baker called 'Live fast Die whenever' which also has few punk like songs.
The older $uicideboy$ projects are very dark and some are quite angry and heavy aswell; this album revealed a bit of a change in sound with more harmonic singing and, if you believe it, more up-beat melodies. Also in terms of production. $crim has always utilised atmosphere and excentric sound-effects, but the specific, layered wall of sound that characterizes the "new" $uicideboy$ sound seems to have originated with this album. Interestingly, he got sober after it. Not that they're not aggressive anymore or that they weren't melodic before, but they have changed their ways of expressing anger and melancholy, within the realm of their style.
you should definitely listen to the Live Fast, Die Whenever EP by them its a 6 song collab album with Travis barker. I think you'll love the last song on the album 👌Great Vid btw!
The reason carrolton is the most song is because it was the first single released for this album it is also the only song from the album that is put on their recent setlists
I Wanna Die In New Orleans is their best album if you like old $B and their very specific sound. Sing Me A Lullaby My Sweet Temptation is much, much more varied and really exemplifies the sober Scrim’s production skills as opposed to this project. thats my wholehearted recommendation if you check out another $B album
guarding my heel is literally 3 different tracks they release and they usually do a 1 or 2 per year hence there is a guarding my heel part 1 through 5 now.
def do more $ui but another great producer is jpegmafia check out his must recent album, he's a bit more artsy/experimental with his beats i think you'd have fun listening to that
I think you’ll enjoy eternal grey by them it has so much more depth to it. $crum himself said that this album is his least favorite as he was too deep into drugs.
I’m not sure if they really even have a bad album, this is the only one they actively shit on and its most people’s favorite haha this only fell to number two for me with New World Depression coming out.
This album was made at the peak of their drug use, so that may explain the repetitive nature of the album. They have a lot more variety in their newer albums, and actually have a new one coming out in a couple weeks! Thanks for the reaction :)
i feel like if you would have known before you listened to a lil more from them and knew about the guarding my heel you probably would have enjoyed it a lil more.... Soooo the animal thing why in the world did I think of the three that I put..
