Gil’s take was dumb but I understand it to a degree. Ausar might just end up being an elite defender, but okay offensive player 3-5 years from now. BUTTT at this point there’s been sooooo many players who have average to sub-par rookie seasons who obviously grow into much better, well-rounded players and sometimes even All-NBA superstars.
Gil being one of those exact cases 😂 bro was a solid player with scoring abilities in Golden State before becoming elite in DC.
I never liked Gilbert Arenas after he bullied Lupita completely unprovoked calling her ugly bc of her skin tone, saying she’s only pretty with the lights off and that dark skinned women aren’t beautiful. That was crazy, just reminded me of the bullies in high school who picked on the dark skinned girls for no reason, very immature! I don’t fw with colorism in our community so I never forgot he stood on that.

Also, giving up on a 20 year old for not being a 20- 25 points per game scorer as a rookie is just a ludicrous statement in itself. I understand that the rule changes over the years have made it easier for guys to score, but it's still the NBA. You're a 20 year old playing against seasoned veterans in their late 20's-early 30's. Unless you're a super rookie like Wemby or Donciç, who already had experience playing overseas, your gonna have to take your lumps

The Ausar Thompson take was ridiculous because Gil is speaking about Ausar like he's a 3rd or 4th year player. If you watch the whole clip they kept asking about his age and his draft class and his contemporaries. They were speaking as if there are players THAT WERE DRAFTED AFTER HIM that's already averaging more than him. When in fact Ausar is a rookie himself and just like any other player needs time to develop

I like Gils Arena but I watch it for the humor not for his knowledge because sometimes his takes are insane so the show kinda lost some steam for me. The addition of Lexi is absolutely terrible. She just sits there and agrees with them and plays with her dog. She don’t even have any spunk to deliver viral moments like Miko.
So we gunna clown ex players for their takes on a sport that they were they played in the best league and know what it takes to be great in that sport... over guys who only ever WATCH the sport that they went pro in and never came close to making it to the league. The people that are bias/have takes to fit their agenda and pov of how that sport should be played... Of course they will sometimes have wrong/bad takes, but then the same thing could be said about your podcast or others that just WATCH and never played at the highest level. Why is your takes/opinions better than theirs? No matter how knowledgeable you are it is nothing compared to theirs and that just facts

If the take is just straight up bad... Yes. Podcasters can be wrong too but this specific take from gil was just bad. Its almost as if he himself forgot what HE came from(averaging 10 himself). On top of that Ausar is an elite defender and rebounder for his height, something that gil looked like he didn't even care about
It’s because of people like you. There are so many people who come to players’ defense just because they played when they give a bad take. They act like players aren’t equally as capable of giving bad takes as those who weren’t players
