Without these videos I really believe tuning megasquirt would be a lot harder. Keep them coming greg and ty.!!!!! Mu miatas running and I've got to give ya a lot of props for getting me through.
So glad someone is walking through this an understandable method without overloading it all into one hour long video. Can't wait to get started on my own
This is really cool, I got a 92 GTI (wrong channel, I know) but I also have a MegaSquirt and so this is helping me out with different parts of tuning that I didn't know with the MS system. KEEP IT UP!!
Just wanted to thank you. You help me with a lot of questions and made it much easier to get into the tuning with MS. These videos are great. I even revert back to them often when ever I need to recap a topic.
Yes! More more moooore! I'm getting ready to boost my NB1 in the very near future. These videos definitely help with the steep learning curve of Megasquirt. Keep up the awesome work!
Thank you for making these videos. They so helpful, even for other makes and models. As far as I know your the only one making these videos that are this detailed.
I watch these videos with my laptop on my lap and tuner studio open so I can do exactly the same as you. This way I know exactly what you're talking about !
Just remember that each car will tune out differently. So using his exact numbers may not work for your setup. But at least your learning what to look for in the functionality of the menus.
+Yuuyia Takahashi When I read back my comment it seems like I did the exact same tune but that was not what I meant. I meant I opened the tables Greg did, so I can look in the tables myself and get the understanding myself.
I've only ever worked with AEM (which I don't like at all) and Hydra, which I absolutely love, but must admit that its price tag is up there if you want to have all sorts of extra fancy goodies. It's neat to see you doing the "screen share" style so that I can get a good look at the layout of MS and how the user interface behaves. good stuff indeed.
Great tutorial! Keep it up. Ain't boring to me. If you couldn't tell by the glasses, calculator watch and that I'm not bored by this, that I am a nurd.
Such a great channel! I have literally downloaded all of your videos to my laptops, ipad, and phone just so I can get me some Greg Peters whenever I want
Keep 'em coming! I'm just now starting to tune mine before installing the turbo & these videos are super helpful for getting more comfortable w/TS. Thanks!
Very nice Greg! cant wait for more videos. EFI Tuning has been one of the things that I really want to learn so these videos should really augment the research I'm doing.
Honestly that's my goal. The information is out there, I'm just trying to give people an easier way to access it. I fought through countless mt.net threads while I was boosting my car, which is where I learned 90% of what I know lol. (Or at least learned key points that let me learn things on my own much faster).
This is exactly what I experienced when I first got my MS. There's so much information on mt.net that you can't seem to find any apart from a couple of useful threads (within reasonabe time that is) When you use the search function you can only seem to find posts of "noobs" that want to know the same as you. Apart from the basics I've learned most my things from trial and error and just playing around with some settings. These videos are really useful as a source of information, without having to dig through pages and pages of search results on mt.net Keep up the good work Greg (or Craig, Daniel or John or something, I'm kinda curious what people come up with :'D) You inspired me to turbo my MX-5 and it's almost finished! Just some assembling work to do :)
Hi Greg, these videos are great, years on, still heaps of great information. ive been watching this series of videos back and forth trying to find one thing!! in the startup vid you did you have a tune for Non turbo. but then in this video you have a turbo tune loaded (I can see the kPA on the map) where can i find that turbo base map? I have a Mazda 323 1.6l that i have bolted on a turbo from a b6t....so all your 1.6l stuff is a great place to start! (the tables, not the total tune itself) thanks Michael.
Greg, there is a MUCH easier way to scale your AFR map. Click on the arrows in the bottom left corner. From there it will bring up a dialog where you can enter your desired break points. When you click "ok" it will adjust the map to reflect your original AFRs mapped to new cut points.
I think the answer to my fuel questions will be on your next video. My turbo build is complete but I am unable to run the car because I lean out so I need to know how to add fuel . Any ways I am scheduled to go with Toby this Saturday with the car on a trailer, but would have been nice to get to the exhaust done before the tune. Thanks for all the videos my build would have been a complete mess if it wasn't for your shared knowledge.
Definitely loving all your videos man. I've been building miatas for years but this will be my first run with a megasquirt and first time actually doing anything myself as far as tuning goes. Getting ready to pick up an MS2 and pop it into my mostly stock 1.8 to get the feel of things before swapping motors and boosting it. I just downloaded tunerstudio and been checking out some sample maps they provided. The link you posted with miata sample maps didnt work for me, not sure why. Anyways, love the content keep em comin.
Got my na miata all tuned up and was ready to put my turbo on then the very last time I hooked up my laptop to check out everything one last time I got a message from tunerstudio that said there was an error when trying to open my tune so after some research I have to start another project... something to do with windows 10 corrupting the properties of my file. Talk about upset. Hopefully I can save my file on a thumb drive and reinstall it if it ever happens again. Major setback. I'm sure its something I did cause I'm not super tech savvy. Anyway thanks for the vids greg you explain it the easiest for me to understand and the videos dont put me to sleep. I know this probably doesn't happen to often but if it's done it to you a video on how to avoid this situation would be awesome
Awesome work with the series so far but just for future episodes when you told us that EGO and VE analyze use the AFR table next time please tell us what the acronyms mean and why they use the table, just for us noob noobs.
Hey Greg! I installed my ms3pro pnp today and I have a quick question. I'll be running an mtx-l plus into the accessory plug. Do I need to remove a jumper? The manual says "disconnect the stock o2 sensor." And that's it.. it's pretty vague.. thanks man, love your vids 🤛✌️
Great stuff! Nice overview of acceleration enrichment, very useful. Can you tune it with the car running, or do you need to turn it off every time you change something?
My question is would you recommend me installing a mspnp into my 94 1.8 which is NA and only running aftermarket intake n exhaust and a few other items ? I don't plan on going for boost but my long term goal is ITBs so am wondering if it will be good to learn MS on my near stock setup n do small adjustments to better learn the system. In future prep for ITBs, or is it not worth changing ur ecu unless you go boost with a turbo or ITBs ? Thanks in advance love the videos !!!!
If you plan major modifications in the future it's best to install it sooner than later. If you want an ITB setup why would you boost it first? AN ITB setup will be cheaper than properly turbocharging anyways.
+TheCarPassionChannel thanks for the fast response, sorry I meant I don't plan on boosting it ever. ITBs would be my long term choice, even though many say tuning can be a really pain and timing consuming process with the east coast weather changes. So for know I'll keep reading and learning Ms until i finally make the Itb moves... So I guess my main question is should a stock Miata even run MS ?
For those of you that are reading comments, there is an easier way to rescale tables in Tunerstudio than the one that Greg demonstrated in this video. I made a short video clarifying this point. ua-cam.com/video/dSkXBI0cSH0/v-deo.html
The base map does start out very conservative. I said that I leave the base map alone until I'm on a dyno, unless I'm actually getting audible detonation. Seems just fine, it usually gets quite a bit more aggressive in boost after dyno time actually.
hey I was wondering how hard it is to install new piston seals on a 1992 NA. I am wondering because I am considering buying a miata that has dried piston seals. Thanks
To replace the rings you have to pull pistons which means either pulling the motor or dropping the subframe and pulling the oil pan. In which case you should do bearings while your in there. If the car is cheap enough sure but it's borderline putting a new motor in
Would it be safe to increase the redline on my nb Miata to 7600k it has a k&n intake and a header back exhaust plus a full clutch and light weight flywheel.
This is the best MS tuning video I've watched, thanks so much!! I'm planning to install a Megasquirt into my Miata (when I buy it) and this has been very very helpful :). I have a couple questions for you: I am confused @ 3:23 in the ignition timing table. At 230 & 212 kPa and 1800 RPM, why are the timings a lot less than their surrounding cells? The 5.1 and 6.9 BTDC Sorry if this second question is answered in another video of yours, but is your boost being controlled by the wastegate spring + a manual/electronic boost controller, or is the Megasquirt controlling it? Thanks so much Greg! I'm looking forward to applying this KNOWLEDGE to my future car and beating LAMBORGHINIs somehow ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
You'll never be able to get into 200+kpa at 1800RPM, so those cells really don't matter. Boost on mine is controlled my a homemade boost controller, I have a previous video showing how to make it!
You are an Amazing Guy !!! zero dislike life and you make megasquirt for everyone possible
Without these videos I really believe tuning megasquirt would be a lot harder. Keep them coming greg and ty.!!!!! Mu miatas running and I've got to give ya a lot of props for getting me through.
So glad someone is walking through this an understandable method without overloading it all into one hour long video. Can't wait to get started on my own
You are concerned about it being boring, but concise and you explain things very well. Good job.
This is really cool, I got a 92 GTI (wrong channel, I know) but I also have a MegaSquirt and so this is helping me out with different parts of tuning that I didn't know with the MS system. KEEP IT UP!!
Thanks for the help. It's not very complicated when someone is talking you through it step by step.
Just wanted to thank you. You help me with a lot of questions and made it much easier to get into the tuning with MS. These videos are great. I even revert back to them often when ever I need to recap a topic.
starting my MS turbo build this week and these videos basically do it for me. you're the man, Greg.
This video made me go from stuck to unstuck. Low idle, bad throttle response. Now I have somewhere to start tomorrow morning. Thank you!
I see it has been a few years... but your video's continue to help me with my turbo build. Thank you so much!!!
Liked and subscribed man you're the only person that give good detail and explains what things are.... abbreviation decoding helps
I watch these videos with my laptop on my lap and tuner studio open so I can do exactly the same as you. This way I know exactly what you're talking about !
Nice tip...
Just remember that each car will tune out differently. So using his exact numbers may not work for your setup. But at least your learning what to look for in the functionality of the menus.

Just picked up a turbo Miata. It already had this installed. These tutorials are perfect and im only on the 1st video.
I've only ever worked with AEM (which I don't like at all) and Hydra, which I absolutely love, but must admit that its price tag is up there if you want to have all sorts of extra fancy goodies. 0 dislike! that is why this channel is the best channel!!!
Makes me want to get a miata to track it! Being i know alot more now because of you! Thanks greg, keep it up man!
Precisely. This is precisely the sort of vids that I'm looking for. You sir, are a gentleman...
Love the series, I am almost ready to start my turbo miata for the first time, so this comes in super handy. Thanks!
Hell yeah, keep going with this series, these are very helpful for me
Such a great channel! I have literally downloaded all of your videos to my laptops, ipad, and phone just so I can get me some Greg Peters whenever I want
Interesting way of wording it but thanks!! Hahaha
These videos are what i really enjoy
Keep 'em coming! I'm just now starting to tune mine before installing the turbo & these videos are super helpful for getting more comfortable w/TS. Thanks!
Keep going with these videos! They're great
Very nice Greg! cant wait for more videos. EFI Tuning has been one of the things that I really want to learn so these videos should really augment the research I'm doing.
Combined like 30 mt.net noob posts into a nice video, gj greg!

only on video number 2, and I have learned soo much. Thank you!!
Dude I've been watching your videos and its inspired me to get a Miata I just wanna say thank you for given me that push and the motivation broskiiii.
Not bored at all, keep em' coming. Good information and thank you.
450 likes and no dislikes. You deserve it. Great videos!
Thanks! [Don't jinx it though LOL]

just found your page and am already dying to watch the 3rd video! keep em up!
Some good stuff here, loving it. Thank you much

Nice, thanks!
I created a little youtube video that covers this... you ok if I link it in the reply?
Yep no probs
I am honestly surprised how simple this is, makes me wanna boost my pos inline3 vw polo.
Awesome!!!!!! keep doing that tune videos !!!
I think the answer to my fuel questions will be on your next video. My turbo build is complete but I am unable to run the car because I lean out so I need to know how to add fuel . Check Luca Car Mods, today he fixed his car dying after startup with hot wiring the fuel pump. He is in the process of boosting it.
Thanks for the input. I did get to see Luca's Video.
Great stuff, keep up the amazing work and videos!
Are you sure it's safe to use fuel cut for the overboost protection? Wouldn't that be more likely to cause a momentary lean condition than spark cut?
love the info matey🖒
this will come in very helpful when I start tuning. 😀
thanks helps alot I bought a ms2 before you started making these helps alot!!
Extremely helpful, please make more!
why tf am i watching this when i have a hydra? idk but you rock
The general idea is the same. Just terminology and user interface is diff on Hydra. So in theory you can still learn plenty from this series
Definitely loving all your videos man. I've been building miatas for years but this will be my first run with a megasquirt and first time actually doing anything myself as far as tuning goes. Thanks for checking out the videos! This link should be what you need www.megasquirtpnp.com/mspnp2_maps.php
@@TheCarPassionChannel im getting an error message saying " the system cannot find the path specified"
being a nerd. (or one with thirst for knowledge) i love this type stuff thanks bro. about to get into some boosting with my NB vary soon. cant wait :D
great stuff cheers! i run megasquirt on my old beetle but its the same principle
Awesome videos. If anything, make them more detailed! Show some non-Miata related info, too!
Got my na miata all tuned up and was ready to put my turbo on then the very last time I hooked up my laptop to check out everything one last time I got a message from tunerstudio that said there was an error when trying to open my tune so after some research I have to start another project... something to do with windows 10 corrupting the properties of my file. great videos, keep'em coming!
just got my supered (M45) miata out of the shop and I reeeeaaallly need the part 3 video to come out
Friday at 9am PST!!
love this guy
Great video. I use Access Tuner Race on my platform for tuning, a little different but overall the same concept as far as tuning
Great series!
great job keep em coming!
I'm enjoying the series
Great work! Keep it up buddy
Great Megan squirt Tutorials! it would be helpful if you could point out certain differences when tuning with a 1.8 vs 1.6 if any exist. - NB1 kosubi
Awesome work with the series so far but just for future episodes when you told us that EGO and VE analyze use the AFR table next time please tell us what the acronyms mean and why they use the table, just for us noob noobs.
I actually don't know what EGO stands for, haha. And I did cover that VE = Volumetric Efficiency :)
Keep up the good work!
Good info Greg! Thanks!
awesome man love these vids wish you could upload them faster than I watch them
Smashed the subscribe button so hard that i got unsubscribed
love your videos
great vids exactly what I've been wanting!

But hey...where is your rollbar?? :D
Ah never mind...its Broke&Boosted, I forgot haha
Great stuff! Nice overview of acceleration enrichment, very useful. Can you tune it with the car running, or do you need to turn it off every time you change something?
Nope, you can make changes while the car is running. If you need to power cycle Megasquirt, you'll get a message on screen.
Nice one! Many thanks!
Goood series cant wait
Love these videos!!
Don't have a Miata but this will be helpful anyway!
Hey Greg where is the coolant re-route video?
I'm only one person
Fair enough. Great Video!
It's coming man I promise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nathan Wright it's here!! :)
Hey how are you? I love your videos, great explanations. Do you know if it is possible to run MS on a drive by wire throttle? Thanks mate
Great Video!
this is awesome!
Iam running a N/a 5.0 fox mustang and my y axis in air fuel ratio.. not Kpa

Ohh I misread. Yeah a stock Miata will be fine running MS. It will require some tuning straight away though.

very informative
set all VE boxes to 999 to get maximum power at all rpm
Keep it uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup!!! ^_^
If I converted to VTPS what do you think I should set as the percent weight given to the VTPS?
rpm: 9001 ITS OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAND
The way your tuning the ignition map is worrying. I would recommend starting low and creeping up and of course knock detection
The base map does start out very conservative. I said that I leave the base map alone until I'm on a dyno, unless I'm actually getting audible detonation. Seems just fine, it usually gets quite a bit more aggressive in boost after dyno time actually.

Don't do that. You have nothing to gain by making that change and you will just be putting undue stress on your engine.
Okay, thanks .
Hey Greg what about N/A miatas? Do I need to mess with AFR table on the base map?
You probably will want to optimize it. But it's so easy so it's in your best interest!
Can you/ would it be useful to run megasquirt on a non boosted car? I think tuning is so fun and I just want to play around with it.
It's really fun, and a learning experience. It does have the potential to make more power than the stock ECU with proper tuning as well.
What do you use to control your boost pressure?
On this car I just have a wastegate actuator with an adjustable rod. On the other car I use an AEM EBC solenoid controlled by Megasquirt
This is the best MS tuning video I've watched, thanks so much!! I'm planning to install a Megasquirt into my Miata (when I buy it) and this has been very very helpful :). I have a couple questions for you:
I am confused @ 3:23 in the ignition timing table. At 230 & 212 kPa and 1800 RPM, why are the timings a lot less than their surrounding cells? The 5.1 and 6.9 BTDC
Sorry if this second question is answered in another video of yours, but is your boost being controlled by the wastegate spring + a manual/electronic boost controller, or is the Megasquirt controlling it?
Thanks so much Greg! I'm looking forward to applying this KNOWLEDGE to my future car and beating LAMBORGHINIs somehow ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
You'll never be able to get into 200+kpa at 1800RPM, so those cells really don't matter. Boost on mine is controlled my a homemade boost controller, I have a previous video showing how to make it!
Sweet thanks so much man! I understand it now, it wouldn't make sense for a turbo to spool that fast hahah. Thanks again!
Another question, once my car is turbo'd would it be better to build upon the stock map or make tweaks to the turbo tuner map on megasquirtpnp?
The "base" map already is mostly set up for boost, you'll just have to make some adjustments to the existing maps based on your setup.
Awesome thank you so much!!
OK you set the boost limit to 180kpa how does the ecu protect when above the figure
+MX VALETING Spark or fuel cut.
bro i cant get the driver on my lap could you help me.?
What base map you suggest
how do we control the fans within megasquirt??
For mine:
Boost/Advanced -> Programmable On/Off Outputs -> "Output 1"
That should let you set the temp they kick on, default should be 190 degrees.
Thanks, threshold must be degrees and what is hysteresis?
If your threshold is 190 and your hysteresis is 5, the fans will turn on at 190 and turn off once you're down to 185.
thanks :)
