it’s crazy how long it took for Suisei to gain traction. she was the lowest subbed to pretty consistently for a long time, being surpassed time and time again by here peers. Her persistence paid off and nowadays she shines like the shooting star she is 💫
If you are talking about her initial growth here, she was indie without any corporate backing for more than a year, only joining hololive in may 2018 through inonaka music.
Even then, after joining, because she didn't get her debut hype, she also didn't get much sudden boost to her sub count like other members. But boy, did her perseverance paid off.

In INNK Sui wasn't given the freedom she wanted and pretty much wasn't super happy there, she was released to the main branch and found her artistry muse just as people (especially EN people) are getting to known Hololive more. So persistence, and a bit lucky to be at the right place at the right time.
So hopefully other people currently with lesser sub counts like Aki, Mel, Azki, RBC (even Sora might count here) will eventually get their breaks soon, lesser sub counts is by no means lesser talents, I have seen tons of amazing stuff coming from those OGs.

When Gura blew up, everyone else did too. Even Sora's numbers started to grow a lot.
A lot of it has to do with the fact that Gura (and HoloEN in general) introduced Vtubers to the mainstream Western audience.

Is a saying "a rising tide rasises all ships"
There was an spike amongst all the members as well when Coco started interacted with the English audience on Reddit and the like, that inspired tons of new translation clippers to start pumping out clips.
That brought in a much greater oversea viewer count which was probably the deciding factor in creating an EN branch to begin with. Gura's popularity surprised everyone and brought an even greater audience to hololive as a whole.

From debut till end of year kobo sub growth is exceptional. Good job kobo!

And her promise to her Mom on performing on the biggest stage of Japan came true she Christmas Miracle indeed because of that hololive gave us "IDOLS" that is true to their personalities and make us happy😂

I was waiting for Gura to appear and to no one's surprise shot up the rankings so fast. But Kobos growth was amazing. Blue Loli types seem to really become popular quickly. Cocos growth was undeniably fast but that may be because of her English abilities stretching to the western audiences as well as her work ethic and crazy things she does on streams.

I'm hoping and praying most of the holomems who are close to 1mil cross it this year especially AkiRose. That girl on the verge of quitting came back swinging with content. She puts in so much work into Collabs and her craft I don't know why her growth is so stagnant. Not to say the other girls don't because they all do

Honestly the thing that mildly surprises me is that Marine ended 2022 as the second most subscribed member of all Hololive. Although the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Between fairly regular streaming, putting out all the shorts, and releasing TWO MVs this year, the latter of which is the now famous Treasure Box video, Marine put out a LOT of quality content this year.
Girl certainly worked hard for the position and thoroughly earned it.
The Treasure Box is what put her in two mil before Pekora (who would have gotten two mil before if growth remained the same.) I wonder what she's got for us next...

Treasure box was marine's first truly viral anything, she never quite went viral before so she'll grow a bit more before coming back to each. it's awesome for her because she's been really close with a few other songs or memes to going viral, but treasurebox was the one which finally did it for her.

It's strange when you think that 2022 has produced two different 'super-beast' that no one has ever predicted before on both Hololive and Nijisanji, that are Kobo Kanaeru & Hyakumantenbara Salome.
At beginning yes now no
salome sort of hit her limit. she was a bit of a fun meme, but in the end all she really was, was a meme, her humor is a bit... iffy on translators, so when clippers tried to get her international traction it just never hit. Kobo will end up having better staying power in the end. I think salome sort of shows you the upper limits of popularity a strictly japanese vtuber can get without going viral internationally.

I love how much Hololive has grown, eventho I wasn't much aware of it till HoloMyth, it's cool to think it started with just Sora at first and probably a handful of staff, and now it's grown to what it is now. Really grateful to Hololive for being what it is and the 🐐 yagoo
In the early days pre pandemic it was honestly lower on the radar even as far as Japan was concerned. Kizuna Ai was on top back then at least in terms of public promo and i remember hearing passing commentary about Sora and Fubuki. This was around mid to late 2019 so makes sense given the numbers at the time i guess. Honestly speaking the pandemic helped them a lot given people were at home with a lot more time on their hands to pick up on a new fandom
I'm actually surprised by the early numbers, Choco took off so quickly, being the third member overall to hit 100K following Sora and Fubuki, but now she's the only member of her generation still shy of 1M.
She got hit by youtube's stupiditiy pretty hard.
Over 50% of her video is still being private to this day.

I'm watching this after the release of Suisei's The First Take performance and I have to make this observation. Her first year with Hololive she seriously lagged behind the rest of the company, even for a time being at the bottom of the list.
Now she's the face of Vtubing and our ambassador to the wider world.
Also, I have to point out, since her Graduation, Sana gained almost 20,000 subscribers!

@@Sombody123 On her roommate account she said she was in good health a little bit after graduating. I think it's more likely that she just really enjoyed being a professional artist for Gacha games and Hololive took too much time away from that than she was okay with.
@@Sombody123 I think it was a combo of all three. Ina takes a lot of time off and works as a graphic designer, so that career obviously impacts it. Add back problems to that and a lack luster start (personally I think because of a bad character design) and it was enough. Also I dont think focusing the channel on astrology and bread is enough. I tried to keep up with her content but nothing was really interesting me. Its too bad because I cant hear Astrogirl without crying and Sana was an awesome, caring human being.

It’s still crazy to me that Gura has over 4.3 MILLION people subscribed to her channel when a vast majority of Hololive is not even at 1 million yet or are past 1 million but just barely
The worst thing is that Gura never tried to continuously push subscriptions... basically the whole year of 2022 was very irregular and with few transmissions, it killed her growth and her virality, I really don't understand why... in the end recently she mentioned that he wants to reach 5 million in 2024, although due to its current growth and the way the Vtuber market is... I don't think he can do it... a pity, I'm not lying that if Gura had pushed from the beginning, possibly already will reach 6 million subs

A ppreciate the graph, makes me wonder how come my sense of talent's popularity is decent even though I don't watch anybody in hololive.
Its wild to me that its only taken a couple years to go from when 50k subs was a big deal (and a 3d model!) to now, where one million subs is a possibility for everyone, and the only member that won't ever get to half a million is Sana, because she graduated that early.
Not to say being apart of Hololive made it easier for everyone else but it definitely helped.
Suisei started as an independent vtuber before eventually joining Inonaka over a year later with Azki. Then finally later that year she joined the main branch, which by then her growth definitely took off.
Props and kudos to all indie vtubers out there, even if they're no longer independent now. Starting off by yourself and still doing your own thing and sticking to it is hard and challenging. Suisei's story of thinking about quitting cause she wasn't progressing as much as she wanted to makes me sad but happy that she didn't end up quitting.
That kind of perseverance is what I hope to achieve and for my future.

I got into Vtubers around when Gen 3 had come out. I remember seeing Fubuki with the most. I remember watching the Gen 4 debuts and being said when HoloFive went down to 4 so quickly.
Seeing the constant success of everyone, especially Sora is really nice to see. I'm glad vtubing blew up when it did. It's insane just how well Gura got lined up with it. Her A meme went mega viral at the same time vtuber clips started blazing through the algorithms.
Seeing it snowball and give almost everyone a burst is really cool.

Holo En has a great chemistry so they sky rocketed. On holo jp korone fubuki and pekora has a good and funny character so they still remain on top. Holo ID kobo is a different kind of entertainment. Its kinda new so its interesting.
Imagine telling the Hologirls back in late 2018/early 2019 that in four years, you might have over a million subscribers and not even be on the LEADERBOARD at all.
Four years might feel like they past super short, or feel like an eternity from their perspective.
Or maybe both at the same time, in a weird way. I've already forgotten what my life was like before discovering Hololive, and yet I know that was only three years ago (thanks, Plague). Literally 1/9 of my lifetime.

Korone doesn't seem like the type who cares about the top spot, so I doubt it bothered her too much. I bet that as long as she can keep having fun being goofy and playing retro games she's happy.

What I got from this, Is that Miko had a rough start, but once she got some Traction, Man...

What is interesting is Gura as big as her sub count is, viewership live is just an average of 4k to 10k per stream or around those numbers I think I've seen but the ones that have the most active viewerships is Miko, Pekora, Marine around 30k to 50k per stream and few others like Lamy, Watame, Ayame and Suisei among others around 20k per stream.
Not to mention Rushia and Coco (now retired) are still the two most Super chatted of all time.

@@Diesel-w5 I saw a couple of her streams I just saw like 9k the two times I watched her streams and still 15k for the amount of subs she has seems very low. Also take into account Gurah in her healthiest time doesn’t stream as often as the most popular JP’s with their average 30k or 50k per stream
I've always seen her streams reach 15-20k with 10k being the lowest. but it's true that her viewership isn't as big as miko, pekora, and sometimes even subaru. i think it's gotta be the fact that a lot of gura's viewers are in different timezones. gura has a lot of japanese fans too and she probably streams a bit too early for them..
@@maibignutt6434 yea, a lot of her popularity is on youtube in Vods or Clips. Her actual live streams have lower numbers due to her time of streaming and inconsistency with streaming.
And like you mentioned with her split fanbase with a lot of EN and Japanese fans, its hard to have streams that fit everyone's schedules.

Geez I remember when my oshi reached 100k and 200k. I was subbed to basically everyone back then until there were so many members to follow. I lost interest in the whole vtuber scene and suddenly everyone had 1M+ subs. Time flies.
Gura really just swept in and took the title of first to a million subs right before the others got there, lol

I think these numbers could tell something to us when some got over a million and some doesn't. Vtuber performance? Charming? Acting skill? Talking skill? Playing skill? the cuteness of Avatar? Characteristic? The question is why?
There's a lot more variables behind sub counts increasing. It's way too hard to accurately judge how and when. Like take HoloMyth. They were the long awaited EN hence they got an insane massive boost as compared to council. And if you consider the timing of debuts, the covid period was perfect for streamers to be discovered allowing all Holomems to get a nice boost.
Then there's clippers. Imo they are one of the biggest influence to a viewer interests in whether they will want to watch a holomem or not. Members with more clippers, especially those that can translate helps to bring them to a more global scale.
There's a lot more as well as those factors that you mentioned, it's way too difficult to find a trend on why some can reach a million and others don't.
Most impactful aspects imo is one, gimmick. How unique are you compared to the rest? More gimmick you have, more likely you would rake in viewers. You can also develop an entirely new gimmick, although that would be tiresome the longer you do it. Example: Fubuki has excelent general gaming skill, enjoys shitposting, and FRIENDS. Two, charisma. How natural are you at making a situation that seems meh, into something interesting? Korone's legendary Yubi Yubi and Subaru's heated and funny reactions are prime examples. The more you make these mundane things interesting, naturally views will come. Three, creativity. Miko is a treasure box of example for this. Nyehga, stay home, driving bus simulator thing, that WWE stream, heck, even just her general control of her avatar is amazing very amazing. Four, market. Is there any people who interested in watching things mentioned above? And lastly, sheer dumb luck. You can't deny that all of these achived by coincidence, after coincidence, after coincidence. Restarting the timeline, you might found Suisei who keep trying to use her cutie voice for too long, and destroyed her vocal chord. Or maybe Sora and A-chan never even met YAGOO himself. Or maybe ANY of these talents didn't make it to hololive. It's all the fickle doing of Fate herself.
