I can get on board with this. I always felt like their music was powerful or profound in a way that their contemporaries just weren't. Even if I couldn't necessarily relate to all of JDs lyrics (I've never been raped while my mother watched), they might've been the first group where the instruments alone gave me a release and an avenue to vent my adolescent aggression. I feel they are very underrated and not taken as seriously as some inferior groups in large part due to their fan base and imagery and a relatively common perception amongst people like myself (listened to them religiously through Issues, then forgot they existed) that they peaked in the early 2000s. I didn't even know they were still active until recently so I can't speak on anything after that period. To me though, in an era where every other band was using gimmicks and shocking imagery to stand out, they stood out with their music. They also had some pretty groundbreaking music videos as well.
@@MultiUnreal that might be true if you've listened to like 4 bands. He isn't the greatest but he sure as hell isn't the worst. You don't know anything about the history of rock.
Jonathan Davis is a ridiculously versatile and unique singer. Also, he is not only a brilliant singer but a brilliant producer as well! His layered vocals in almost all Korn song and his solo material is so, so well done and you really can't find any other singer in any other Metal band that layers their voice like that.
Huge KoRn fan, but JD isn't versatile, lol. He's good with the growling, but not versatile. There's about 40 singers above him. I'm not saying he sucks, because he doesn't. He happens to have a distinctive and unique voice in music, he stands out, and that's what I love about JD & KoRn. They're within my top 10 bands.
Even today they continue to have unique voices that no one can replicate. Jonathan still has a lot of vocal power while Chino has power in whisper. Neither of them scream like they did in the 90s, though, which is where the "unhinged" comes from, I assume.

“I have never heard anything like that” exactly what I said almost 10 years ago when they became my favorite band of all time and they still are. And I STILL have never heard anything like that. Jonathan is so incredible and his voice ages like wine. I know it’s not exactly on topic but I also want to mention what a beautiful person he is too. He is SO sweet. He’s been through so much shit and yet he’s always remained such a beautiful soul… I was fortunate enough to meet Korn a couple times and they are seriously some of the kindest, most genuine and sweet human beings in this world. Actually I think it is on topic because that sensitivity he has is what I believe sets him apart. It’s rare to find a singer that pours that much heart and soul into every single note… but he does. That emotion and the way it comes out of him and what he creates in his music is so powerful and touching beyond words… life altering for me lol. Rare breed in every aspect. I’ll love that dude forever. Amazing video, thank you for shining light on his voice, he really deserves it.

I saw on a forum that his complete vocal range is an A1 - F5 (3 octaves and 8 semi notes, almost close to 4 octaves by 4 semi notes) which seems like a typical vocal range for alt metal singer of his class, but what makes him stand out by most is what he can do with his voice. Have you heard his songs that he made in high school? His voice is majestic in his song "Come With Me". And ask me if that sounds like a 14 to 15 year old. Because even back then... His voice was kinda matured. Unless you listen to "What Have I've Done".
I also love the way Jonathan writes the lyrics. he said that usually when given a melody or jamming with the boys, he makes sounds and syllables that fit in the rythm and then makes lyrics out of it

He really is one of the best vocalists of all time. I have never heard him do a live show where he didn't sound like he does on the albums. One of the most unique and recognisable voices around, I saw him with korn a couple of weeks ago and what surprised me was the longevity of his voice, it’s still in very good condition
Jonathan always manage to pour so many emotions on his singing, thing a lot of singers lack today. You can feel Every bit of Pain, Sadness, grief, hate, and more on his songs. Is truly amazing.
What I like about JD is the fact that he's sounds exactly the same live as in studio. Also, as suggestions, I'd say David Draiman, Ivan Moody and Till Lindemann. These three are on my top five singers

I've always been floored by JD's performance of Slept So Long, a song he wrote for the Queen of the Damned soundtrack. he sustains a particularly long note flawlessly towards the end of the song and does it in live performances seemingly effortlessly. ua-cam.com/video/76okYqKDITo/v-deo.html
It’s called emotion and learning to use it to channel things that initially seem humanly impossible. Korn is my go to for karaoke and I often sing here to stay, thoughtless, alone I break, I did my time, trash, black is the soul, insane, blind, somebody, and a few more but that’s all I can think of atm

Just saw them a month ago in concert again. I’ve been 21 years. Back in the day I have seen how many of times. Korn is my favorite. I still have their first album that I got when I was about 15 years old only about a year after release and no one really knew who they were. My cousins actually used to hang out with them back then. 🙌🙌
I’ve been a huge fan of Korn and Jonathan’s singing since their first album release. Super powerful songs and he always delivers on vocals, just one of the most raw emotional singers ever. Honestly i can’t believe they’ve lasted so long and keep delivering, thanks guys!
a lot of us metal singers really sound like our recordings is cause we don't use autotuned we actually put power in our voices to make it sound good especially live and when JD does it, it is flawless
Generally speaking, rock vocalists have some of the best voices in the world, because to dominate grit, rasp and screaming you first gotta understand the basics of normal singing, so you can tell Jonathan Davis is amazing.
I have been a fan of korn since i was a kid, and i finally got to see them live when i was like 30. It was so amazing. One of the best nights of my life lol.
Jon is and always was such an amazing entity in himself, just incredible. He is #1 in all things for me. KoRn is my #1 band and musical heroes hands down.
I've spent the past 25ish years, ever since I saw 'Somebody Someone' on MTV, singing along to them and trying to match his voice as closely as possible. I know I'll never be that good, but it's still my favorite thing to try when singing along to something

My fav performance of jonathan is the unplugged version of Freak on a leash. You could really hear how sophisticated his sense of melody is, how good his tone his, and how good of a singer he is
I've been singing his songs since the early 90s and doing it I just love doing it because he's an incredible singer there's no other words I can describe such an awesome being.
One of my all times fave bands and one of the best vocalist ever!! I was 8 when I first heard Korn I am now 32 and still love them!! I've always been so in love with JDevil!
Hell yeah! That’s why I listened to them growing up. They are just an incredible band! That’s always impressing me. Even now I’m going through hard times with mental health issues, I went all the way back to Take a look in the mirror album an listened to it all a few days in a row! I even have a Family Values tour VHS tape of non-stop Korn, you get to see where they came from Bakersfield, California. All the way down to the beer they drank.
KoRn? nice. Ive liked theire music since my early teens, follow the leader was one of the first CD's I bought, ive had a very good upbringing and life , but even back then I could instantly tell this shit was sogood, so genuine. To this day parts of the lyrics and tone reveals new levels of struggles I can just imagine. Mad respect for sharing and turning it into this music
One of my favourite singer. Jonathan is incredible. I suggest to you Kyo from the band Dir En Grey. The range that he is capable is really impressive when he sings and even when he screams. He make some sound with his voice that are out of this world. His performance in live was bad for a time but as of today he is really great too and stand has one of my favourite singer too.
I'm loving this channel. I found it because of the Layne Staley coverage. ♥️ Have you covered Chris Cornell from Soundgarden/Audioslave or Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam? Actually they had an amazing band together called Temple of the Dog. You should listen to them in Hunger Strike they hit some great notes.
He did 1 for Eddie (that’s how I found him and I love this channel too) ua-cam.com/video/5hwjrlO12hI/v-deo.html I’d love to hear more though! When i was a kid with serious pts and i heard korn for the first time I was sure that Johnathan was not only a genius but also had reached a level of awareness that i thought only I had.
KoRn- Freak on a Leash LIVE at CBGB'S. I'm a big Korn fan been listening to Korn for 25 plus years Jonathan's voice cracks and doesn't get the growl out that he should at 3:10 through 3:14
In the last one, I feel like his scream was to showcase that of snapping and yelling at someone. He started out soft and emotional with it and then.... BOOOM. His vocal range is insane and is so underrated. Like honestly his voice is just beautiful and terrifying at the same time. You want another one, go with Tatiana Shmalyuck of Jinjer. She is insane as a singer herself

Ive seen KoRn live numerous times & his live vocals are perfection. Hes 1 of the best front men ever. His vocal range is untouchable. 1 of a kind 🤘🤘🤘🤘
I saw him recently in concert and he was recovering from COVID AND HE WAS FLIPPING AMAZING!!! He had to tell us before we realized he was recovering. HE'S A MASTER VOCALIST!!!
Saw Korn live with SOAD, both of them play so close to their studio albums it so amazing
One of the most unique and recognisable voices around, I saw him with korn a couple of weeks ago and what surprised me was the longevity of his voice, it’s still in very good condition
My first Korn show was back in ‘02 and I’ve seen them perform 20 times live. Every single time Jonathan sounds amazing.
Great analysis friend. Jonathan is ridiculously underrated.
He's up there with Fred Mercury, as a legendary singer.
He's just more than talented he was born to do what he does
Jonathan always manage to pour so many emotions on his singing, thing a lot of singers lack today.
Y'all just do yourselves a huge favor and listen to 'In Dark December' on UA-cam. JD is obviously one of his inspirations. Thank me later. Tyler Moffitt is so underrated and NEEDs to be heard, he could surly help a lot of people. Chris Nitta on that channel is also him. He does the drums with his own drums ALL guitar, bass, singing and etc. He mixes and masters and produces. Always supplies fresh new work. Go ahead and show him some love.

I wish this vídeo was longer... Incredible JD🤘
True talent of a band's vocalist is how well they differentiate live and studio vocals. Jonathan us AMAZING
He's amazing. My favorite for sure. Such a unique voice!
Thank you for this. JD singing is so fascinating. He has so much range.
Jonathan to me is the best, how powerful could he be and so melodic at the same time, that´s incredible. check the Cold song to you can hear what he takes to get those growls and screams.

@@michellemoffitt9715 WE ARE talking about jd now....k???
Honestly Johnathan is an absolute genius. I love him so freakin much. I’ve always thought he had one of the most unique and incredible vocal talents.

Johnathan Davis is my favorite vocalist I’ve ever seen live, it’s incredible how phenomenal his vocals are every time I’ve seen them perform.
I saw them back in last September and I was shocked at how similar they were to the studio recordings
I always admired how he manages to sound almost identical to the studio version
Just saw them a month ago in concert again. I’ve been 21 years. Back in the day I have seen how many of times. Korn is my favorite. I still have their first album that I got when I was about 15 years old only about a year after release and no one really knew who they were. My cousins actually used to hang out with them back then. 🙌🙌
Just seen them in march he and the rest of the band sounded amazing
Only "DADDY" songs could make me cry and make my goosebumps...
After JD took those singing lessons during issues, he was able to expand so much more.
He’s incredibly talented. 2:55 is so beautiful
Woah tearjerker!!!!!
This is why after all this years Korn is my top band. JD is just fcking amazing, his voices is beyond amazing. Love him
can you please make a video like this of Chino Moreno from Deftones?
PLEASE 👍
But Chino is really rough live very often. Love his work though.
Jonathan Davis é maravilhoso. Um homem talentoso e carismático. ❤
Sem dúvidas monstruoso nós vocais, o cara é único, com todos elementos que ele adiciona pra tornar o seu som único.
0:52 Got the Life live in Argentina 2008, que hermoso concierto. ❤
Generally speaking, rock vocalists have some of the best voices in the world, because to dominate grit, rasp and screaming you first gotta understand the basics of normal singing, so you can tell Jonathan Davis is amazing.
I saw Korn in Sept last year the first show JD came back from Covid, and he was phenomenal!!!
He's an incredible singer. You have to see Korn in concert to really appreciate how truly amazing he is.
This is why JD will be on my top 3 favorite vocalists. He never disappoints.
I think the song Wicked is a great example of the grit he adds to his voice with a GREAT breathe control!
I have been a fan of korn since i was a kid, and i finally got to see them live when i was like 30. It was so amazing. One of the best nights of my life lol.
Jonathas is one of the most visceral, insidious voices I've ever listened.
Great list with some songs I wasn't expecting
Jon is and always was such an amazing entity in himself, just incredible. He is #1 in all things for me. KoRn is my #1 band and musical heroes hands down.
Jon is the most unique singer. He's the best
Thank you for taking the time to make this video 😉
I've seen Korn live atleast 15 times since the later 90s. Every show was awsome. He's the best singer ever. I've been saying this for about 27yrs.now.
If there is a song that I really like to hear mostly because of Davis' vocals on that song, it's Kidnap the Sandy Claws (Danny Elfman Cover).
I LOVE LOVE LOVE here to stay!
“Let the Guilt Go” off the Korn: III album is so good too. His range in that song is magnificent
good God is still my fav Korn song to this day I'm 38 been a fan since self titled dropped
I got to see Korn live with my best friend a few years back and it was insane how spot on he was live. His range is amazing.
Very under-rated vocalist. Absolutely love Korn and they are very instrumental in my guitar playing style .
I just wanna say I think you and your channel are great, thank you for what you do
So nice of you! I really appreciate it friend... sending love your way 💛
I've spent the past 25ish years, ever since I saw 'Somebody Someone' on MTV, singing along to them and trying to match his voice as closely as possible. I know I'll never be that good, but it's still my favorite thing to try when singing along to something
I was hoping Good God would be on the list. It’s one of their best underrated songs
Sincerely...its beautiful...he has magnificent vocal....⚡

My fav performance of jonathan is the unplugged version of Freak on a leash. You could really hear how sophisticated his sense of melody is, how good his tone his, and how good of a singer he is
My favourite singer in the world.....He is a master....unique and just a legend
Good God has always been my fav Korn song....still love it 25 yrs later!!!
The build up of him singing the bridge in “No One’s There” always blows me away.
Going to see Korn live this month and still can't believe it!! ❤️
Awesome video you made here🤙
DIOS, COMO AMO LA VOZ DE ESTE TIPO, HOLLOW LIFE HUBIESE SIDO INCREÍBLE DE ANALIZAR, PERO TEARJERKER YA ES UNA JOYA. 💕
Thanks for bringing Good God up. As a kid in a pre internet era, no one of my friends seemed to hold that song in high regard as much as I did.
I could imagine that many lines are very deep in feeling for him. So that's the reason that he can sing as live as studio.
When you are singing from the heart and your soul and your life you'll find your own vocals in your head
You gotta hear those insane screams on the song Chi. Honestly most of the songs on life is peachy are insane 😅
I would say the “Mother” part in the beginning of Daddy is also a hell of a vocalization.
KoRn?
Have you covered Chris Cornell from Soundgarden/Audioslave or Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam? Actually they had an amazing band together called Temple of the Dog. You should listen to them in Hunger Strike they hit some great notes.
He did 1 for Eddie (that’s how I found him and I love this channel too) ua-cam.com/video/5hwjrlO12hI/v-deo.html I’d love to hear more though! May I suggest if a 6 impossible lines for Eddie is done the PJ cover of Love Reign O’er Me should definitely be on that list… Just sayin… 😁
And he also did 2 for Chris!

I Hope you going to make a video about Klaus Meine, Bono or David Coverdale because they are all three very very good singers with incredible high and low notes (and because i love their vocals :) )
OMG Klaus Meine is criminally underrated
When i was a kid with serious pts and i heard korn for the first time I was sure that Johnathan was not only a genius but also had reached a level of awareness that i thought only I had.
He says non stop as if it was torture he knows damn well thirty hours of pure Korn would be heaven
Loved every second of it
Love it!
KoRn- Freak on a Leash LIVE at CBGB'S. I'm a big Korn fan been listening to Korn for 25 plus years Jonathan's voice cracks and doesn't get the growl out that he should at 3:10 through 3:14
Interesting!
I never get tired listening to Korn, Metallica, Slipknot music
You gotta listen to the bridge of "Hating" on Untouchables album; I think that is his best vocal performance ever.
I am glad you covered his amazing talent already in two videos. He is definitely one of a kind
Its almost like he sounds just like himself. Amazing!!!
Yes! The screams in Good God, Chi, and Proud are breathtaking and powerful. Love JD! Today's his birthday! 🎉
