I heard somewhere that you have to sew from neck line to the tip of shoulder. To narrow it down to compensate for removing the thickness of pad. Do you know if this is true?
That may be the case depending on the persons body shape and in particular the width from the neck to the top of the armhole. Some people are short in this area and others are longer. In a lot of cases, when the pad is removed the garment sits perfectly on the shoulder. But if the jacket is loose after removing it, then yes some adjustment might me needed. That is another story, because you can only start at the neckline, then taper out to the shoulder. And then the sleeve head would need to be adjusted. I have clients who have this issue (not just jackets) and I ask if they are okay to have a little gather at the top of the sleeve. On a top or dress where the fabric is soft, it can look nice.
