Newcastle now make history: They're the first Newcastle team to reach the semi finals. *gasp* Newcastle reach the semi finals? Impossible! It must be a dream!
A very convincing performance by Newcastle (and I love Nielsen more and more). But Maloney's "154" was out of this world for me. Most impressive answer I can remember for this season... Sad to see him go but I quite disliked the rest of his team...
For Newcastle, I like Nielsen, Noble and Lowery (the fact he apparently reminds people of Eddie Redmayne and the Eleventh Doctor doesn't harm), but not Reynard. Not sure why, I just don't like him.
I really hope Paxo would have accepted Torsades de Pointes for that VFib, because it was really Torsades-looking. On the other hand, I'm really worried that a medic thought that was AFib....
Also, that sinus tach did also look like it had some PR interval widening, so 1st degree AV block wasn't wrong... but that's not a type of arrhythmia, so it wasn't a good answer either :-P Geek-out complete!
You can do it by adding up numbers in the previous row, or by computing binomial coefficients (nCr). It's not too hard to just "know" it though, the n'th row starts with 1, (n-1), from that it's just knowing that 1,6 is followed by 15,20,15,6,1.
This was fantastic. Thanks so much, psi, and no need to apologize about timing. For me, it's a case of better late than nothing!
Well done Newcastle. They might not fare so well in the coming rounds, but they certainly deserve to be there!
hapax legomenon
26:44 wow Noble
He does study a PGCE in maths, after all.
Newcastle on fire. Very likeable team too.
Agreed. One of the more personable teams for sure.

Oxlade looking like he's about to pad up.
He has the air of a future Conservative backbencher.
Nielsen was visibly shaken by her failure to answer correctly those sinus graphs.
She did however correctly get the first one, as well as the starter, plus 2 other starters: Vestigial at 12:51 and Renoir at 16:28
Sad to see Fitzwilliam go, I've grown fond of them.
Me too...
What happened to Oxlade?

As always thanks psi
I had a heart attack trying to read your name.
☺😊
Charles Dickens it's quite easy, srinivasa is Ramanujan's first name, and there was a contestant on UC last year whose last name was Venkatesh.
Leonaidas S nice one!

And this sort of thing is why I love UC... :-D
Well she was still a student at this stage so she can be forgiven! (Mrs L)
Wow. How many questions about Vanessa Bell did they have this season?! Like, four, at least?
Is there a fast way to calculate a row in a Pascal triangle?
You can do it by adding up numbers in the previous row, or by computing binomial coefficients (nCr). It's not too hard to just "know" it though, the n'th row starts with 1, (n-1), from that it's just knowing that 1,6 is followed by 15,20,15,6,1.
1 and 6 you should know.
15 = (6x5)/(2x1) and 20 = (6x5x4)/(3x2x1)
Torsades de pointes, a type of VT
Nice to see another Sri Lankan here.
Noble!
Hmm I thought the questions were a bit easy for a quarter final match
Really? They were my worst result for this season... :O
When I say "easy", I meant I could actually answer a few of them! Very often I can't answer a single question this late in the contest
When the first team interrupts incorrectly they lose 5 points. What happens if the second team interrupts again and also incorrectly?
OMLETDUFROMAGE nothing I believe
No penalty, they haven't shut out their opponent.
No penalty.
Damn.
the ECGs were so easy
I got tachycardia and I'm an economics graduate! :D
