I’ve had the fox dirtpaws for a really long time and ridden really hard and fallen on many rocks with them and they’ve stayed in great shape although the Palm gets a little crusty from Sweat they’ve outlasted a lot of the other gloves I’ve tried
i have the same view on knee pads and usually don't wear them... but now i'm sitting all summer and longer with a reconstructed knee cap. just wear pads people.
Quality control issues is sadly quite common, I have Poc Resistance Strong gloves, and the stitching was inconsistent, some had great stitching some not, some of them had the same stitching issues, plus glue issues on the straps. palms that wear out fast is also common issue,if they got venting holes they wear out faster. I have not tried any fox gloves yet, because I want protective padding. I you know some one who can new or can do it your self, you can modify(For example putting stronger material at the palms) or repair gloves after they wear and stretch. With my fingers I should not try to sew I think, but my mom fixed my gloves,as I wear them out in few months. Hope our reviews will make a difference.
Your beginner mountain bike series really helped me to get motivated and go mountain bike for the first time. Me and my dad went out to bike for the first time a few days ago and it is really fun! One thing I did wish I had when I was biking is a pair of gloves. Being a first time rider my thumbs were rubbed raw and started bleeding and made my ride a little uncomfortable. I also fell on a wood bridge that curves and I got like 4 splinters.
@@noma_es_sebas Well, I now own a dirt jumper a mountain bike and bmx bike and my dad broke his collar bone mountain biking a few months ago so I'd say pretty good lmao
I really appreciate that you aren't afraid to say it how it is about less-than-stellar products, even when they company hooked you up with them. I feel like a lot of magazine "reviews" are just product ads.
We use those park tool inflators at the shop I work at. Very, very durable, they get dropped, knocked around and whatnot and still pump out the air! the only thing is that after awhile with so much constant usage we have to regrease/replace some of the seals. But it's good at what it does, filling your tires.
Seth's Bike Hacks I would like to see a lot of more beginners videos as I am starting to mountain bike and having a awesome time thanks to your channel
Do more of these please! Appreciate how concise and BS-free the reviews were. If you need suggestions I'll selfishly mention that I'm in the market for new grips and decent, but lightish weight inner tubes for a 26x4.0 tire..... And a bike computer that works on a fatbike...
I’ve been using the inflator in a bike shop. It works great for a few years and then the rubber o-rings that seal the tube valves to the inflator start to wear down and let air through. You can either buy a repair kit and your own o-ring or you can buy a whole new inflator tip.
That Double Bass Jazz music from 1:44/2:34 was on point when you spoke about the Sh*t Kit. I probably replayed that segment of the video around 20 times already, if anyone of you Seth happens to know what it is called I'd be much obliged. You seem to use the best use of contemporary, non-tacky, electronic/trendy music from places like NoCopyrightSounds, however none of that is bad but it is so refreshing to hear such sounds in your videos and to hear Jazz in Mountain Bike videos are amazing! Just shows your creativity!! Also the music you used in your tutorial videos called the sensei music was so ON POINT! If you could leave a link in the description on something like a playlist of the songs used in past, present and maybe future videos would be amazing. If you did another Q&A video, I'd definitely ask you this:) Best Regards!
I just found your channel today; saw the BeFree water filter. Normally I run a Camelbak and fill at trailheads. Due to C19, the potable water fill points were disabled, so decided to try a backpacking trick. Install a Sawyer filter inline with my Camelbak. No more water fill point issues, and the filter is good for 10k+ gallons. The multi-tool with magnetic retention looks intriguing; I’ll have to look into that.
I've got a set of FOX Launch Pros-had them for just over a year now. I have well built legs (Thicc legs if you will) and the L/XL fit me great. They're not that expensive and offer great knee and shit protection. Can get a little hot in the summer if you're climbing a lot, but I tend not to notice until I actually focus on it
Seth, magician like on your assessments! Brutal honesty is something most can easily tell and appreciate and come back for! Thanks for being real! Companies better be sure they send you good products lol!
I have purchased the Klic and the F15 and they are exactly as shown in the video (as to be expected) they are both lightweight and of high build quality. Thanks, Seth for the showcase as I never would have found these otherwise!
Try Gform knee pads. They're soft and squishy and flexible before they hit a surface and then they instantly harden up and absorb everything. Very comfortable and slim. You can even where them under pants. A bit pricey, but absolutely amazing!
We use the parktool inflators at my shop, they work great! We have never really had any problems with them other than having to replace the heads from dropping them on concrete.
To Seth or anyone in the comments that have an opinion on this please read and answer: Alright, so, before I start this I want to say I ride on roads 85% of the time, but I just hate road bikes and alternative road/mountain bikes. I like Mountain Bikes, even on the road. I am a good rider, I do not actually mountain bike. I know it all comes back to my own preference but I would like to know what others think too just because this is probably the bike I will be riding for years to come and I want as much opinion as possible.
Tangey1 I'm no pro but your choices come down to either a 29er or 27.5. And from personal experience I can throw my 27.5 around a lot better than my 29er. My 29er rolls over a lot and fast with little effort while my 27.5 corners great.
Thanks for your opinion Seth. Also, love the vids, keep it up :) Comparing the Fusion 940, do you think its worth it going up to the Vertex 930 for the price or sticking with the Fusion 940. Its really Deore vs SLX, and what I have found online is that there is not much of a difference but SLX comes out just on top. I don't think its worth the extra $, whats you opinion?
Tangey1 sorry for leaving that out,it's a 27.5 Plus. I also mainly ride trails if your going to be using it on the rode I'd take Seth's suggestion of going with the 29er and maybe getting a low resistance tire. Ever looking into gravel bikes like the cannondale slate?
I'm using a Henty "Enduro" backpack at the moment. It's more like a low slung backpack or bum bag that has shoulder straps. So far I'm quite impressed, it's very robust and does not ride up on the steep stuff like the Camelbak I have, just can't carry quite as much stuff.
Hey Seth I have a bike hack that is pretty common in the bmx racing world, all you do is put a zip tie around the bolts that connect your crank to your sprocket so that if they come loose they don't fall off and you won't loose them
Also I have another hack where if you don't have anywhere to sit and your seat is uncomfortable you can turn your bars so they rest on your knees and you sit on the neck of your frame and its better than standing
Hey Seth, just wanted to tell you that I had been wearing shin pads but not knee pads for a long time. They did a very good job and didn't make me that much hotter. That lasted until I had a bad crash and got a huge gash on my knee! After this unfortunate crash I immediately went to a local bike shop and bought shin/knee pads all in one. I bought these awesome fox ones that are super bulky! They are even used for dirt biking! But so far they have done a very good job! For all the crazy stuff you do you should definitely get a pair for your self! An believe me a scab on one of the parts of your body that moves the most sucks! It takes forever too heal!!! Definitely get yourself a pair! Sincerely: Bike Hard
Hey Seth mate, I'd like to share two tips with you and everyone else. The first is cohisive compression tape (the wider 1.5 inch roll particularly) which is a ride saver in my book. If you had wrapped it around that lump on your shin right away it would have been gone by the next day and it's awesome for all sorts of swelling injuries but particularly for smashed or sprained ankles. You just wrap it up snug put your sock and shoe back on and will stabilise your ankle enough to ride even after a bad sprain. That plus the swelling and pain the next day will be 10 times less and you will be back on your bike in days not weeks. Plus its light enough to carry when you don't need it and cheap as chips. My other tip is 2 part epoxy on your gear cable ends. It never comes off and works way better at preventing fraying than the caps.
those park inflators are badass not going to lie had one at the bike shop i was at and i love not having to search for a presta adaptor u just flip the head, you can also use it to inflate a presta thats barely sticking out of the rim.
you should check out the 7 protection knee pads with a hard knee cover that slides over the dirt when you crash rather than up your leg. I ride them in park, skate park, and trail. They work great on my tree trunk legs and always stay in place.
Hey Seth I would come to reeb but can't get a ride unless I pay the $150 uber fee 😬would love it if you came to charlotte tho, by the way, love the vids and recently my friend got into watching your vids he stayed up last 2 nights just binge watching you.. well your videos.... anyway keep it up!
I just made an air compressor inflator for around $30 off stuff on Amazon and a trip to the hardware store. Got a replacement bike pump hose and head and attached it to a $10 inflator gun.
I had the same problem with the fox digit gloves.... I stitched them my self and they've held up pretty well to this point... I also use my MTB glove for skiing in the spring so they're used yr round
Grab some IXS Dagger knee guards. IXS make the best protective gear I've ever used. I had 661 knee guards before and something punched straight through it just like yours. I ended up still having to go to the ER and get stitches. A somewhat misc benefit of the IXS stuff is that they don't get smelly, ever. I don't know why or how but it's true.
Hey! I bougth those POC knee pads last month, I saw Fabio Wibmer wearing them and that is why I choose those. They are the best things ever! Pricey, but like they say, buy right, and buy once
Man I'm glad you like your Park Tool inflator. I work in a shop and ours sucks. I mean, it works great for schrader valves, no problem. But the presta side is completely worthless. Never seats up right and doesn't inflate worth a crap. Sucks because when it works, on the schrader side, it's great. Ah well.
Use shin pads or get the extended length poc knee pads. I've gotten where I prefer shin protection over knee protection. Also I thought about getting the park inflator but bought a Topeak digital tire gage. Much cheaper and works well for checking pressure accurately. Thanks for the reviews. Definitely getting that crank brothers multi tool.
Try Ion K Pact Amp knee pads, they can be removed with a zipper quickly so you can fit them on your top tube during climbs if you like. I do like the POC knees though, I ride enduro with the downhill knee/shin version. They are small though so order a size up from what you think you need.
if you wear the knee pads again use Gold Bond powder before putting them on. If you have itching afterward use either Benedryl cream or Cortisone cream. That should help.
It's not just your gloves or QC. I've had dirtbike gloves from Fox as well and they tear apart pretty quick, right where yours have. The wrist separates, right in the web of your thumb and the ball of your hand.
Excellent review. however one thing I noticed you were putting your kneepads on wrong. What you need to do is when they go on your feet put them on upside down then twist them around to your knee that will keep the elastic from stretching
I use skateboard knee and elbow pads and soccer shin pads. I've fallen plenty of times and they provide great protection at a cheap price. I can ride for hours without any irritation.
I can say that the Park Tools pump gets unusable in a shop after months of hard use. Ours are barely good for inflating shraeder valves, and the presta ones do not seal at all. The gauge is still very accurate if you magically get a seal tough, and it has withstood many drops onto concrete floors without breaking. only the head is an issue, but it can actually be replaced.
I like ALL your videos Seth, they're very well made and edited (not to mention useful) but I personally prefer skill riding videos, like the How To Bunny Hop tutorial, or the 4 Ways to Climb Stairs tutorial for example. For me, THEY're more fun to watch and they inspire me to ride better and have more confidence. Just my 2 cents. :)
For the water filtration lifestraws the way to go but if you can't afford the higher-end LifeStraw because I don't feel that the smaller ones last long enough you can always get the water purification tablets takes a little bit longer before you're able to drink the water but they're lightweight and have a long shelf life. Also for when taking a crap in the woods. No mind you this might not be for everyone but when desperate times come Desperate Measures have to be made and I usually lose a sock
for a phone mount i use the belt clip that came with my survivor case. just zip tied it to my handle bars and works great. very little shake. probably one of my favorite diy bike projects
That park tool pump was glorious with the first generation head, it was silver and black and didn't need a large Allen key to service it. The generation 2 head is 110% garbage for shop use constantly needing new seals and servicing. I've had my Gen one and I've had it for 4 years or so, the shop I work at purchased another park tool inflator for our second mechanic stand and it's been plagued with issues since week one.
I had the bark fall off a downed log just like that once. Except I was carrying my bike and we ended up in the creek! On the gloves, it looks like they were a little small for you. I've found tight fitting gloves wear faster.
I had the same problem with my poc vpd 2.0 knee pads, that even in the biggest size were too small and uncomfortable. Now I have ION k pact knee pads, which I consider relatively comfortable and until now protected my knees pretty well. Maybe you should try those once. Nice Vid!
As a bike mechanic, I can personally attest to the park tool inflator's durability. Even when the head starts to leak air, park sells rebuild kits and entire head assemblies to bring it back to new.
I thought that neck camera holder was a joke, and I was waiting for the punchline. Love your product review videos the best, but most others are really great as well.
Love the log crossing.... and the guts to include your screw-ups on your vids. I definitely got a good laugh out of that, looks like something I would do! 😅
You can't deny his no bulshit attitude to reviewing products is brilliant..... Hay try this phone mount! Uuuum this is a bad idea! I stand corrected it's Awsome! 😂😂😂 Seth...... You make me laugh so hard, iv been in quarantine for 10 days now and every day I come to you for good advice and a laugh 😅
I got Fox gloves, too. The stitiching on one of the fingers did not last very long, my mom had to redo the stitching... in fact I wore them just a view times. Seems like a general problem with Fox gloves.
Hey Seth. I can highly recommend the TLD knee pads. I have had them for a couple of years with no issues with heaps of wear and washing. I sweat heaps here in the summer with rides in Australia in +30 degrees and forget I have them on. Thanks
Katadyn makes water purification tablets, very small, and one of the best in the world. Contain ions of silver in MC1 version and silver ions and chlorine in Forte version. Downside is You have to wait 2h(?) for the purification to complete and they won't remove floating bits so the water needs to be fairly free from debris. They're also great for getting rid of smell from sporstwear fabrics, protectors, shoes and help avoiding smell producing bacteria from growing colonies back right away. If You wanna know more, respond.
Good stuff Seth, do more of that kind. The Osprey Raptor dont look that cheap, I prefer because of the lower price and more volume the EVOC Line 28L It is a backpack for winter sports but who cares it fits me and have almost anything the Trail/Enduro/Explorer MTB versions got? I was able pack it with all kind of stuff to survive the Megavalanche and could practice all day without even go to get something to eat or drink or anything else you maybe would need because the backpack carry everything :D . The Osprey lower pouch do look better for those mechanical stuff you need. I do not like those pumps like the Klic because there are some flaws in this design. You need to screw it on your valve, this need some time (okay who cares if you have time). But the mayor flaw is that you could unscrew your valve after your done with inflating your tire. If you dont have any tool to screw the valve back again with more force to secure it your doomed. I would prefer every time a pump with a hose like the Klic but with a lever to engage it quicker and to not accidentally unscrew the valve. This tiny thing can mess with your big ride if your far away form anything. The F15 looks okay to me but I do prefer because of more space and more torque the crankbrothers Y15 or 16 This multitool is unlike anything else I ever had. It is miserable if you first look at it and try to get the tools out but if you do think about it before you take it with you , you could change the bits with your already existing bits form your workbench, let everything you dont need at home because most of us only have 3-4 screw heads on our bikes. The Y formed wrench is magnetic and will secure the bit and this Y form is one of the most ergonomic tools I ever used. I would say you should review or show maybe some of the Instant repair tire kits for tubeless on the run. I used till now the Maxalami and this had saved me some time and also worked with Procore on my rim. I think you know the fuss to get a tube inside the tire on the trial who was tubeless but was not able to close the hole. Imagine now how it is to get the Procore system total covered with the sealant down from your rim. You could need 30 min for that alone and then what you do with it?
hey seth, id recomend the fox dirtpaws for some good gloves, light, good breath ability and padded on the bits you need, only downside is the velcro. the material of the fingers gets caught on the velcro when youre trying to do the glove up. coming from a budget concerened mountain biker, theyre awesome
For gloves I use Mechanix tactical gloves. They have really decent quality and endurance for a low price. Got mine for around 20€. Used them for Airsoft and MTB since 4 years
Put like a sleeve where the knee pads go and then put the knee pads on, and to keep them from sliding up tape the top and bottom of your knee pads to your legs
I love how Seth is completely honest instead of bullshitting everyone that a product is good

you should check out the 7 protection knee pads with a hard knee cover that slides over the dirt when you crash rather than up your leg.
+Billy Vanilla sucks you can't make it! Start walking now though and you'll be there with plenty of time to spare.
Seth's Bike Hacks walking? riding!
Seth's Bike Hacks come to San Antonio and try to bike government canyon, that's a hard trail with good views!
I have the sawyer mini, it was $25 and you can screw it on top of a water bottle, it filters very well and fits in your pocket.
I just made an air compressor inflator for around $30 off stuff on Amazon and a trip to the hardware store. Got a replacement bike pump hose and head and attached it to a $10 inflator gun.
Those inflaters are wonderful i work in a shop and we have had them for a few months and have never let us down
Love the honesty seth! Makes your advice a lot more meaningful.
Big fan Seth
Whale foreskin hahahahaha!!
IceCreamTrucker Even funnier because I see this comment with 69 likes. Thus, I refuse to give it a like to not tip the scales
tip... foreskin... hahahahahahaha, scales... wait, that last one um...
Eagle scalp whale foreskin composite much more valuable.
but he censors "shit"
yum
Excellent review. however one thing I noticed you were putting your kneepads on wrong. What you need to do is when they go on your feet put them on upside down then twist them around to your knee that will keep the elastic from stretching
you should get the fox launch pro knee pads. Super comfortable and breathable, would highly recommend them!
Dude I very much enjoyed your product view videos. That mini bike pump has made this year's Xmas list. Neato
After working with the park tool inflator at a bike shop I can say that they are well worth their weight in gold
Strong vouch for the Sawyer mini water filtration kit. I give them as gifts.
Random shot of u falling off the log is priceless. Glad ur OK. Thanks for putting it in here. Idk what it is that was amusing, but I chuckle.
for a phone mount i use the belt clip that came with my survivor case. just zip tied it to my handle bars and works great. very little shake. probably one of my favorite diy bike projects
Thanks for the review videos. I like how if it didn't suit your need you were upfront about it and didn't BS. It would be great to keep these up!
Nice Vid!
Love these videos. Keep them up Seth! Also I would love another 10 cheap mountain bike upgrades videos - they're really helpful!
there is a bottle opener on the alloy cover of that c.bros. multitool - that "not perfect cut circle" 😉
A stabilised GoPro mount that mounts onto your back pack strap and also is used for the GoPro karma drone
for knee pads id rec. anything using the D30 material, the TLD raid or fox pro d30 are amazing
I usually don't like theses videos but I liked this one .
I got Fox gloves, too. The stitiching on one of the fingers did not last very long, my mom had to redo the stitching... in fact I wore them just a view times. Seems like a general problem with Fox gloves.
Amazing Seth! what about a video giving your advice in building a new bike, choosing the frame, the suspension, and the extra components.
Hey Seth. I can highly recommend the TLD knee pads. I have had them for a couple of years with no issues with heaps of wear and washing. I sweat heaps here in the summer with rides in Australia in +30 degrees and forget I have them on. Thanks
Seth I love your vids and promise me one thing that you’ll keep the vids coming and as entertaining as they are now. I love you man. No homo.
If You wanna know more, respond.
if the phone mount on the neck able to make it more stable and doesnt move it would be an awesome gift i just hope they release one soon
Good stuff Seth, do more of that kind.
The Osprey Raptor dont look that cheap, I prefer because of the lower price and more volume the EVOC Line 28L
It is a backpack for winter sports but who cares it fits me and have almost anything the Trail/Enduro/Explorer MTB versions got?
The F15 looks okay to me but I do prefer because of more space and more torque the crankbrothers Y15 or 16
This multitool is unlike anything else I ever had.
I can say in a real bikeshop the inflator is amazing. Only problem is the glass got busted! Still works somehow
thank you for the reviews and not overly drawing them out
hey seth, id recomend the fox dirtpaws for some good gloves, light, good breath ability and padded on the bits you need, only downside is the velcro. the material of the fingers gets caught on the velcro when youre trying to do the glove up. coming from a budget concerened mountain biker, theyre awesome
I also like the rigid water bladder of the osprey compared to the flexible one that comes with most.
For gloves I use Mechanix tactical gloves. They have really decent quality and endurance for a low price. Got mine for around 20€. Used them for Airsoft and MTB since 4 years
Seth the multi tool also has a bottle opener on the back to very handy
Their may be alternatives but that lifestraw is super hard to draw any water through. I guess it’ll keep you hydrated though.
Put like a sleeve where the knee pads go and then put the knee pads on, and to keep them from sliding up tape the top and bottom of your knee pads to your legs
