if you dont have a joint splitter strike the steering arm or the strut casting , not the joint itself ....works every time
Thanks for the advice! :) I do have a few different types of ball joint splitters but it wasnt too long ago that I last had the front end apart so i thought id give it ago with the hammer. :D
I have put poly bushes on mine the difference it’s made is unbelievable it drives and handles a lot better
I used the ratchet strap on the anti roll bar before I took it off just to keep the tension on it
As you have said use a ratchet strap i did as I have seen it done before it makes it a lot easier to do
I REALLY LIKE HOW YOU DO THIS.....thinkin I would do it the same. drivin a capri mk3 for about 3 years and these jobs will come to me in the future ....I will polybush everything on my capri
Thanks Marcel! ID LOVE TO SEE YOUR CAPRI!! send some pics in a message to my facebook page facebook.com/marcushayesford if u dont mind. cheers!
Always leave the anti roll bar on when you connect the castle nut side onto the anti dive bar push the end that goes into the engine cross member use a screwdriver to pull it in then hammer the bolt home if that makes any sense
Iv recently found a way of doing it without using the ratchet strap. Its really hard to explain in words BUT it does sound like what you described. 'Maude' will be getting adjustable TCAs very soon anyway which always seem to make thinks a bit easier. thanks for the advice! 🙂
Poly bushes are a nightmare where an anti roll bar is concerned, Marcus... That's one of the reasons why I did away with it & fitted compression struts to the Cossie Corsair!! Ace videos as always! Cheers. Leigh.
Cheers Leigh. . . . . Maybe I should have left the rubber bushes in the tca for the anti roll bar but its done now. Im not looking forward to the next time I need to remove the anti roll bar tho. . . . . . ID LOVE TO SEE YOUR CORSIAR!! Send some pics in a message to my facebook page facebook.com/marcushayesford if you dont mind. :D
Good job Marcus, I haven't done an anti roll bar for a long time now but I will never forget what a pig of a job it is, glad you got the Astra sorted, hope to see more on the mark 1 escort in the new year? it's well nice.
Cheers Gary! Defo more mk1 content coming next year! cant wait to get back on it but for now Im hibernating for winter! :)
Getting that swaybar in was a pain... I'm not a real fan of poly bushes, I leave the STD rubber ones in.
You hibernating for winter lol, we're sweltering in heat down in Adelaide , Sth Aust 👍👍
Enjoy the sun Marty! Ill probably be sliding around in the snow in my mk2 soon! :D
Must be the arb type. Mine just fits into the bottom arms nicely, I fit the other sides of the poly bushes, washers and do the nuts up. Then lower the car down and Jack the front of the arb up and fit the clamps.
Its a twin cam anti roll bar which is a slightly different shape and its a pattern one. :)
@Dario DeNiro Thanks for the advice! :) Like the anti dive kits???? I dont like the idea of the anti dive kits because they lower the front of the anti roll bar which in turn raises the rear of the anti roll bar. This makes the TCAs far too flat and messes with steering geometry. The anti dive kits were designed for rally cars which have raised suspension. . . . . The truth is I went with the twin cam anti roill bar because i have one on my mk1 and it seemed fine when the car was on the road. The mk1 has adjustable TCAs tho which makes fitting the anti roll bar alot easier. :)
I can see what you mean. I’ve got a original twin cam arb and I’ve compared to the 1300 arb I’ve taken off (fits easy). The tc arb is wider at the thread ends. I use a anti dive double width kit and it’s great.
Dario. A centre clamp is only on the anti dive kits. Anyway you bolt up the clamps last.
Just subscribed mate 👍🏾 after some bushes myself but the link don’t work to daves shop bud
Thanks for the sub and welcome to the channel! After a quick search on ebay it seems that Dave maybe isnt selling on there any more. :(
Quinton Hazel, pretty good quality........ ha ha ha.... if only you knew the difference
Looking good. I've almost finished a zetec conversion in my mk2. I can't find what coolant to use. What coolant did you use?
Thanks Maverick! I used red coolant because my dads focus had red in it and that has a blacktop zetec but Im not 100% sure which coolant ford used with the zetec. Im still using the standard mk2 escort radiator which would have had blue coolant in it so i flushed it out as best as I could before adding the red coolant.
Just use Evans lifetime coolant.....
Does not freeze.....
If it boils.... You have already melted your Pistons
Super cool doughnuts at the end of your video.
