- The Marina di Venezia campsite is in Punta Sabbioni, a part of the municipality of Cavallino-Trepori. Of course, we also want to get to know the surroundings and so an excursion in Cavallino-Treporti is on the program. From the campsite, we drive along Via Fausta to a agricultural holding.
The Via Fausta was once planned by Benito Mussolini and should be a straight connection from Cavallino to Venice. It was never finished, so it ends in Punta Sabbioni.
About halfway to Cavallino, we reach the Azienda Agricola Valleri Stefano. Stefano, the owner awaits us already and introduces us to his sister Valleri Daniela and employee.
It is the only agricultural holding in the region that not only grows vegetables but also processes them in-house to the finished product, with the exception of frozen foods.
The tour of the approx. 5ha large farm begins with the salad cultivation. On pure sea sand, the lettuce is planted, fertilized and harvested with the help of machines. In the period from 1 to 2 weeks, one works on single fields.
1966 was a fateful year when a high water flooded the country. Until then, the farmers mainly cultivated fruit trees on the peninsula. But after the flood, the fruit trees suffered from the sea salt that had come with the water. To survive, many farms switched to vegetable cultivation at that time. Vegetables are better able to cope with the salt and promise a quick yield. Today, Stefano Valleri supplies the markets in Padua and Udine, as well as the Marina di Venezia.
Besides salad, he grows pumpkins, zucchini, tomatoes and aromatic plants. For the production of his aromatic plants, he obtained the certification from Organic Agriculture, in 1999. To date, all aromatic plants are certified organic by ICEA (Institute for Environmental Ethics Certification).
In his machine hall, Stefano shows us his latest achievements. Machines for drying and packaging vegetables. Here he produces his newest product, the Veggy Snacks. This new snack is not only tasty and crunchy but also healthy. Selected Italian vegetables are only dried and thus contain no oil or food preservative. The Veggy Snacks are available in supermarkets and via the internet. On the international food exhibition in Parma 2018, the Veggy Snacks were among the 100 most innovative products of Italy.

Der Campingplatz Marina di Venezia liegt in Punta Sabbioni, einem Teil der Gemeinde Cavallino-Trepori. Wir wollen natürlich auch die Umgebung kennenlernen und so steht ein Ausflug in Cavallino-Treporti auf dem Programm. Vom Campingplatz fahren wir erst einmal die Via Fausta entlang zu einem Gemüseanbaubetrieb.
Die Via Fausta wurde einst von Benito Mussolini geplant und sollte eine kerzengerade Verbindung von Cavallino nach Venedig werden. Sie wurde aber nie fertig gebaut und deshalb endet sie in Punta Sabbioni.
Ungefähr auf halber Strecke nach Cavallino erreichen wir die Azienda Agricola Valleri Stefano. Stefano, der Besitzer erwartet uns bereits und stellt uns seine Schwester Valleri Daniela und eine Mitarbeiterin vor. Es ist der einzige Betrieb in der Region der nicht nur Gemüse anbaut, sondern es auch in Eigenproduktion bis zum fertigen Produkt verarbeitet.
Die Besichtigung des ca. 5ha großen Betriebes beginnt beim Salatanbau. Auf reinem Meeressand wird der Salat mit Hilfe von Maschinen gesetzt, gedüngt, gewässert und geerntet. Im Abschnitt von 1 bis 2 Wochen werden einzelne Felder bearbeitet.
1966 war ein Schicksalsjahr, als ein Hochwasser das Land überflutete. Bis dahin waren auf der Halbinsel hauptsächlich Obstbauern tätig. Nach der Überflutung litten die Obstbäume aber unter dem Meersalz, das mit dem Wasser gekommen war. Um überleben zu können wechselten damals viele Betriebe zum Gemüseanbau, da Gemüse mit dem Salz besser zurecht kommt und einen schnellen Ertrag verspricht. Heute beliefert Stefano die Märkte in Padua und Udine, aber auch die Marina di Venezia.
Neben Salat werden auch Kürbisse, Zucchini, Tomaten und Gewürzpflanzen angebaut. Für die Herstellung seiner Gewürzpflanzen erhielt er 1999 die Zertifizierung von Organic Agriculture. Bis heute sind alle Gewürzpflanzen von der ICEA (Institute for Environmental Ethics Certification) zertifiziert.
In seiner Maschinenhalle zeigt uns Vallerie Stefano seine Neuesten Errungenschaften. Maschinen zum Trocknen und Verpacken von Gemüse. Hier produziert er sein neuestes Produkt, die Veggy Snacks. Dieser neue Snack ist nicht nur lecker und knackig, sondern auch gesund. Ausgewähltes italienisches Gemüse wird nur getrocknet und enthält somit kein Öl oder Lebensmittelkonservierungsmittel. Auf der internationalen Lebensmittelmesse in Parma 2018 gehörten die Veggy Snacks zu den 100 innovativsten Produkten Italiens.

Hallo Richard! Vielen Dank für den kompetenten Kommentar! Auch wir haben uns über den Salat- und Gemüseanbau im Meeressand gewundert. Aber nach den Überschwemmungen standen die Obstbauern vor dem Nichts und mussten sich ganz rasch etwas Neues einfallen lassen! Ich finde sie waren extrem flexibel und bewiesen viel Fantasie, sodass sie im Nu so einen erfolgreichen Gemüseanbau gestalten konnten! Viele herzliche Grüße und alles Gute nach Wien!
