Bullying can be considered many things: manslaughter (if a suicide happens), stalking, harassment, and a hate crime (if the crime is motivated towards things like race).
It can also classify as verbal abuse/assualt. In the 90s i know a few bullies were charged with assualt causing irreparable harm when the bullies drove someone to attempt suicide. I do not know if they were convicted, but i know it went to trial.
The modern Internet is not a good place for kids or people with thin skin. I got into computer programming in the 70s, there was a time that it was mostly just Universities, researchers and random BBS to connect to. Access was not wide spread and often was a toll call to dial in. It was nice back then unlike the toxic environment it is today with all the keyboard warriors and bickering. IMO Social media is the scourge of the internet, people need to learn to keep their real life private and off the net. Too many parents use it as a babysitter.
So-called "hate crimes" is a BS ADL invention. It's a sly way to first and foremost criminalize thought rather than the actual physical crime itself. Also as the ADL admit themselves, "hate is in the eye of the beholder".

NewGrounds did have a bunch of flash games people would make and you could play on there, but they also had videos (animated), study notes/cheat sheets, and a general forum for people to post to. And as for the Emergency Broadcast Tone; you get a BIG ASS fine for using it. That is actually why in shows and movies like The Purge and The Strain they came up with their own "Claxton" alarm sounds, and the few movies and shows that HAVE used the tone like Signs had to alter the tone or where only allowed to use the long beep tone at the end and not the part that comes first where it sounds like an electric buzzer since that is technically just the "off air signal" meaning there will be no more broadcasts until a new broadcast day or further notice.

@ 12:00 Sounds like Simon needs to do an episode of The Casual Criminalist about Michelle Carter. She did exactly what Simon describes here in 2014 & was eventually convicted in 2017 of involuntary manslaughter. She served 11 months of a 15-month sentence in Bristol County Jail.
This is actually a really old rumor and I'm very surprised it wasn't included in the video (I may have waited 30m just to see if it was her) but it's probably just Kevin trying to kill Simon's DMs
@@shelbssellscheeseshells1739 Well, given that the Overly Attached Girlfriend Meme circulated years later than the first recorded archive of the Jeff The Killer image, we know it's not her. The earliest edited version of the image we know of was in late 2004.
Not sure if Simon or the team reads the comments but if you're looking for more episode ideas, might I suggest the question / theory / mystery of whether mankind is the first civilization, or have there been others before ours? If you think about it, modern humans have only been around for the last tens of thousands of years; which is a really short span of time relative to how long hominids have been around (a few million years) and definitely a blink of an eye compared to complex life forms on Earth (tens to hundreds of millions of years). Can we truly, confidently say that we are the first? Firstly, there is the Silurian hypothesis. Could there have been a previous civilization millions of years ago? What would such evidence even look like? Could clothes or other artifacts even last that long? Would ours last that long for future civilizations to uncover? Alternatively, did pre- H. sapien hominids develop civilizations before going extinct?
Pretty sure it's because it's in uncanny valley territory. it's close enough to recognize it as a human face but it just looks wrong to the human brain and makes it extremely creepy to most people.

A 33 minute video about where a slightly creepy image in a poorly written creepypasta came from and I watched the whole thing. Well played, Mr. Whistler.
Show request! Gloria Ramirez, often dubbed ‘the toxic woman’. Which feels disrespectful as she passed away in these circumstances, but that’s the name this often goes by, so sorry to Gloria and any family. I feel this might be like the Ourang Madan one where everyone ‘knows’ it’s true but the more you dig the less primary sources and evidence are actually there.
Well, I really hope Simon and one of his amazing writers (preferably one of the ones who enjoys deep research dives to sort out all those daisy chains of sources repeating what other sources said until we get to the bottom of it) takes this one on.
I think the most plausible explanation I saw for this was that a doctor or nurse was smuggling drugs out of the hospital in IV bags, and in the rush to stabilize Gloria, a bag was grabbed that had the drugs in it. What really made me believe this theory, though, was what happened to the woman in charge of the investigation into the matter. She committed suicide, and there is reason to think she took her life from the stress of the truth, as if she had come forward with her evidence, the medical licenses of everyone would be revoked and the hospital closed. Thousands of people would be outta jobs. Talk about pressure! Even if that’s not what happened, I hope the truth comes out eventually! Her family deserves some answers.
Simon and writers, I have a really good suggestion for an Into the Shadows video, about something so few people know about. The Null-Compliance Experiments took place from 1997-2007 in a Florida prison on 300+ inmates. Doesn’t sound TOO rough on the surface, but when you look into it more it’s deeply disturbing. As in, easily in the top ten worst things the U.S has done. It’s literally nightmare fuel when you realize that this exists out there, and that the U.S will not hold back on using it against you.

Nope. I have it on good authority it was back when he was first interviewing writers. He was looking for old style leg irons and a four foot tall hamster water bottle. No idea what for. Allegedly.
others have probably already said it but the crime that is committed is known as "Constructive Homicide", most people are familiar with the employment law equivalent which is "Constructive Resignation" or sometimes "Constructive Dismissal" where an employer effectively creates an environment in which a specific person or group can not do so without undue difficulty, scrutiny or harassment. Im in Europe though and I am not entirely sure of the American law at federal or state level (it seems like it may vary from state to state?)
I'm ~40 years old, and I first saw this image maybe 5 years ago, or probably less (Yes, I Do live under an actual rock... or do I? )... But to me it's creepy as heck, I honestly feel a pinch of primal fear by the pic. ...Therefore I wonder what psychologists would make of this 🤔
Eventually people will find out the origin of the image is much older I remember in either 1999 or 2000 seeing a less edited version of the image in a "find whats wrong with this image" flash video Of course there was nothing wrong with the image then it switched to that one in order to try and scare people It was definitely a bad lighting Webcam picture or video originally, those old Webcams were horrible with adjusting for lighting and just alittle in the wrong spot would cause a bluish hue and/or a white spot sometimes encompassing your whole face.
I attended a seminar with my parents on internet safety that was presented by a police officer who showed us how to get to Silk Road. It was fascinating, but also, police, why are you teaching a room full of people how to find the site that has hitmen, false identity services and drugs of myriad forms? This seems like a thing you shouldn't be advertising. Especially not when the message is "this exists, and we have no control over it." A year or two later, the FBI or whatever got it shut down. But yeah, RCMP, just sitting there like "hey everyone, if you want to get drugs ordered to you, here's the untraceable way to do it!"
It's weird to me everyone assumes it's a picture of someone's face rather than just a doll or something like that. I mean, yeah, it's been photoshopped but it seems like the random dumb shit someone bored with a webcam would do: play with some dolls, take a screen capture, meme it up, nyuk nyuk. Could even explain why the original person was never found: a) they aren't in the photo, and b) it was just the byproduct of a random webcam screengrab.
My old email (I had to change it because I couldn’t stop things from happening) kept receiving emails from a guy who had r**** me and I ended up in the hospital having a colonoscopy. I contacted a couple companies asking for me to stop receiving mail from his company. Long story short, didn’t work, people are assholes, got a new email, get flashbacks when I have to access that old email, people will continue to suck. For the next topic about being told to kill yourself, my daughter was 8 at the time and I asked her to change out of pajamas to day clothes. She got angry and told me to kill myself. Made me rethink family structure, support, father harassment issues, etc. we all are in counseling to become a stronger unit. Not well described, I had cervical neck injections I’m recovering from and other injections which are not helping. I apologize for my bad story telling skills and me leaving out a lot

Bullying is psychological torture. Undermining sense of safety, self worth, altering perception. It doesn't always have to be physical for it to be a crime.

Jeff the killer evolved so much through the years. Many reboots in creepypasta stories. Jeff vrs Slenderman was weird. And even a morbid love story with Jane the killer. Then the Cult of JTK with copycat killers. It's definitely a mediocre story turned OG legend in the creepypasta world. Same with "smile dog" and "Ben drowned".
I hate to sound like a snowflake but one of the biggest problems with kids bullying each other now days compared to when 10-20 years ago is mobile phones and the internet. It's no longer just in school hours, it follows them everywhere at all hours
Sadly people do tell those who are already vulnerable to end their life. Online people think that can do that without consequences. That's why governments now make that a crime.

That's hilarious that we had extremely similar experiences with silk road. I remember being weirded out by the cigarettes and fake IDs too, and they had a whole book section which baffled me. Fun fact! In the early days of streaming chat rooms, my neighbor who was about 50 and his early 70s girlfriend were getting up to some kinky shit and broadcasting it, when he accidentally killed her in front of their online audience. He was later acquitted after serving two years awaiting trial, and a sentence for witness intimidation.

I know this is old and no one will actually probably read this, but the fine thing for the Emergency Broadcast Tone is actually real. And there is good reason for it. There were (and probably still are) a lot of analog systems that listen for that tone and if they hear it can cause a cascading effect. I know old TV stations actually had automated systems to rebroadcast that kind of stuff when the tone was detected. So the fine is there for a very good reason. Just look what happened at the false missile scare in Hawaii years ago, it could cause a similar situation if I false Emergency Alert went out to a wide enough area. I'm sure in more recent years a lot of places have probably swapped to a more digital system to prevent false alarms caused by careless idiots, but I'm sure some of those older systems are still in place.

Simon was on the dark web to sell his expertise in how to burn off faces.
Thou hast no evidence to support thy accusations
Rubbing alcohol
Allegedly
I can't believe it never occurred to me to use isopropyl. So silly of me! None of that lingering smell like petrol. Thanks for the tip!
Nope. I have it on good authority it was back when he was first interviewing writers. He was looking for old style leg irons and a four foot tall hamster water bottle. No idea what for.
Allegedly.
“I don’t know anything about art, but I know Nicholas Cage movies”.
Simon, that statement is redundant because they are the same thing.
“Isn’t this one of those Reddit memes”
Me (a creepypasta enthusiast): k1ll me… 😖
others have probably already said it but the crime that is committed is known as "Constructive Homicide", most people are familiar with the employment law equivalent which is "Constructive Resignation" or sometimes "Constructive Dismissal" where an employer effectively creates an environment in which a specific person or group can not do so without undue difficulty, scrutiny or harassment. Im in Europe though and I am not entirely sure of the American law at federal or state level (it seems like it may vary from state to state?)
Simon was looking for a hair transplant on the dark web 🤣
Allegedly!
@@knuckiducki perfect 🤩 😂
I'm ~40 years old, and I first saw this image maybe 5 years ago, or probably less (Yes, I Do live under an actual rock... or do I? )...
But to me it's creepy as heck, I honestly feel a pinch of primal fear by the pic.
...Therefore I wonder what psychologists would make of this 🤔
Same here. Same ~age as you, same response to the photo.
Eventually people will find out the origin of the image is much older
I remember in either 1999 or 2000 seeing a less edited version of the image in a "find whats wrong with this image" flash video
Of course there was nothing wrong with the image then it switched to that one in order to try and scare people
It was definitely a bad lighting Webcam picture or video originally, those old Webcams were horrible with adjusting for lighting and just alittle in the wrong spot would cause a bluish hue and/or a white spot sometimes encompassing your whole face.
Especially not when the message is "this exists, and we have no control over it."
A year or two later, the FBI or whatever got it shut down. But yeah, RCMP, just sitting there like "hey everyone, if you want to get drugs ordered to you, here's the untraceable way to do it!"
Tara the android was actually taylor swift.
My parasocial relationship with Simon continues...
What!? I'M in a parasocial relationship with Simon! You brazen hussy! "Home"wrecker!
We’re there along for the ride with you.
Simon is our fren
Decoding the Unknown has just become Simon shitting on fiction.
It's come full circle guys.
I have a great one coming up in like...8 months? Idk how ahead we are at this point
YES CREEPYPASTA WITH KEVIN! MAKE IT!
11:55 the crime here would be harassment/menacing
It's weird to me everyone assumes it's a picture of someone's face rather than just a doll or something like that. I mean, yeah, it's been photoshopped but it seems like the random dumb shit someone bored with a webcam would do: play with some dolls, take a screen capture, meme it up, nyuk nyuk. Could even explain why the original person was never found: a) they aren't in the photo, and b) it was just the byproduct of a random webcam screengrab.
Oh my gosh what was that movie with Bruce Willis? And the guy shaking his head. That looked funny
I remember when the internet was only really a place to research things with Lexis Nexis (sp)
Lexus nexus, and that was indeed my search engine of choice for a while
@@ThatWriterKevin thats the way I spelled it at first, but then I second guessed it...thank u. It was a good search engine though!
During bit about the TV and how a channel would turn off I thought this would tie to candle cove... But then I started thinking about The Midnight Channel instead.
Fun thought is that we've probably seen the original image before, and just didn't know it. Because it was probably just something boring or ordinary.
Yay a Kevin script! 🥰 the best part of my day 🥳
Aww thanks!
@@ThatWriterKevin 🥰 Thank you!! Your scrips are great! Your writing is amazing!! I thoroughly enjoy them all!! I know I will be entertained and kept interested!
@@QueenCaitiePie That's really sweet, thank you!
Bullying is psychological torture. Undermining sense of safety, self worth, altering perception. It doesn't always have to be physical for it to be a crime.
Simon reading about this creepy pasta as if it's a historical mystery like where is Amelia Earhart makes me feel extremely old
Same anytime he covers something from the 90's or early 2000's I'm just like hey I remember this then it hits me holy crap you've been alive for 25 years where'd the time go 😂
I've said this before, and I'll say it again: "Jeff the Killer" is the illegitimate love-child of Markiplier and Barney the Dinosaur.
Simon: "This looks shopped. I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time."
I would know. Ive burned LOADS of faces. 🤣
I hate to sound like a snowflake but one of the biggest problems with kids bullying each other now days compared to when 10-20 years ago is mobile phones and the internet. It's no longer just in school hours, it follows them everywhere at all hours
after hearing someone describe the image as a "demented Michael Jackson", I could never take it seriously again lol
Sadly people do tell those who are already vulnerable to end their life. Online people think that can do that without consequences. That's why governments now make that a crime.
Years later and that image still scares the shit out of me. Why do I keep stumbling upon it on UA-cam? 😭
Simon, I was buying medical books on the Silk Road. $800 to $40 on Silk Road.
oh simon you sweet summer child. please put on your safe search. if plane crash victims is the worst thing you've seen, PLEASE protect yourself your innocence is precious
That's hilarious that we had extremely similar experiences with silk road. I remember being weirded out by the cigarettes and fake IDs too, and they had a whole book section which baffled me. I actually did intend to buy weed through it (was like 21 at the time and weed wasn't legal and I had only straight edge friends lol) but, and this is frustratingly true, I thought that 6$ per bitcoin was too expensive and didn't go through with it. To this day I'm like.... 6$ per bitcoin is insane. If I had any leftover coin I could be so wealthy today
20:48
Aahhh tubgirl! Noooo
AOL CDs...they sent me so many I added felt to the bottom and made coasters for 🍸
Got some DMT vape pens online years ago and the guys now a good friend
Don't remind me of the good old days when you didn't have to pay monthly for photoshop. God I hate that stuff
Death by bullying is involuntary manslaughter up to murder
Depending on the decree of bullying
"this kinda feels like a creepypasta" - Simon while talking about the most known one
New grounds did have games but also had vids made by the community members that’s what I knew it for didn’t find the games till my senior year and once I graduated I didn’t have time for them anymore
My ex was obsessed with this guy. I might be into crazy chicks
Simon, on one of your videos, you should redirect people from sending you Twitter to putting their thoughts on your subreddit r/SimonWhistler. That way you don't have to respond.
If I knew they had that complaint I'd have directed them to my Twitter
@@ThatWriterKevin Haha! Crowd source for the follow up episode!
I was going to say I don’t think he responds to Twitter anyway, but that was already confirmed. 😂
This made my day
Happy to help!
3:49 Oh, Fact Boy, you _sweet summer child._ Please try to keep the rest of your innocence.
Looking forward to seeing what you guys found that blameitonjorge didn't already just cover.
Idk when his video was, but I don't think any of the developments are particularly new so we sadly may not have new info
@@ThatWriterKevin hi Kevin! how's the basement?
@@Abby_Liu great as always!
@@ThatWriterKevin There may be no new info, but it's always interesting to see and hear how the same subject is covered by different writers and presenters from different perspectives and points of view.
@@ThatWriterKevin That probably sounded insulting, but I did end up enjoying this.
"Jeff" looks like the offspring of a union between Mr Potato Head and Michael Jackson 😂😂
"wasn't newgrounds a gaming website?" Uhhhh... That's not what I used it for Simon
It's amazing that I can tell who the writer is for the episode based on the Thumbnail. When I saw this immediately knew it was Kevin.
Now I cannot unsee that 9:01
Even though you don't accept raid for ads I still got one through the UA-cam ads and I felt attacked haha
I remember how much this scared me when I was 12... I'm now 20 and 7 minutes in I cannot take this creepypasta seriously😭💀
