    Good Review. I have a 2018 LR Disco HSE TD6 the same color is this the one you reviewed. Also, I live in Fort Worth. I agree that people make too much about the reliability of this car. The cost of ownership is a bit higher than other luxury brands but this car is far more complex then other brands. Although I wish that JLR would take more responsibility for their infotainment problems. One minor correction I would make. I traded a 2015 Mercedes GL 350 Diesel for this car. That car also had a 3rd row. With that said. I've never driven a car that I like better than the Disco. It is a truly wonderful car to drive. I've taken it off road, ending up on some rugged ATV trails, and also done some water crossings with it. It was amazing. The only advice I would give people considering one of these cars. If you want a premium SUV that you want to take off road, then get the LR. You'll have a higher cost of maintenance, but you'll gain a superior driving experience. However, if you never intend to take your car off road, then you can save some money, and maintenance cost, by getting a BMW X5 or perhaps a GLE.

      @@RoadandTract There are a few things I miss if I'm being honest. It has auto brake hold that came in handy at traffic lights. But I've found the LR to drive much better overall. I suppose everyone has their own taste when it comes to how they like cars to drive, but I prefer the way the LR rides and drives much better than the GL. I hate the new GLS and all of the other Mercedes SUV's. They look awful.

    • @johnfleming8734

      Can I ask what encouraged you to make the leap from Mercedes Benz to LR. I love the look and packaging of this car, and have not seen a more comprehensive or honest review of this car anywhere online. I’m just wary of making the change from Mercedes to LR.
      I live in a rural area so occasionally drive on dirt tracks and rough agricultural roads which the Mercedes just isn’t suited to at all.
      Key issue for me changing my car is the quality of the metal used in the AMG alloys that the car came with I.e that it is poor quality and to date had cost me in excess of £5,000 gbp to maintain and upkeep in over 13 months of ownership.
      It would be interesting to have the perspective of a driver who has made the transition and also to hear your thoughts.

    • @atlscorpatlscorp2620
      @atlscorpatlscorp2620 3 роки тому +2

      Hey John. I’ve driven Mercedes for years prior to buying this car. While I was use to the brand I grew tired of being told what a great car it was while still having the problems I did. The one I traded in was a 2015 GL (now called the GLS). I had multiple problems with the car covering everything from electronics/infotainment to mechanical problems with the brakes and sunroof. So I reached a point with the car where I didn’t feel it was very reliable. While it did have 4matic it could never have gone to he places where I’ve taken the Discovery. I’ve been down ATV trails with my LR and had no issues at all. I’ve done countless water crossings in Georgia, North Carolina, Arkansas had the car is simply amazing off road. When taking LR’s reputation for being unreliable in consideration against what I was actually experiencing with my Mercedes I felt that I would be no worse off with the Discovery. I purchased an extended warranty to cover any unforeseen issues I might encounter. This will be in effect until the care is 6 years old or reaches 100K miles. Meanwhile I love driving the LR. It rides much better than the GL and it’s easier to park and see our of then the GL. To sum things up. When I discuss this with people I suggest the use this rule. If you plan to do any off road driving then you should consider the LR. If you only plan to use the car ON road then you may want to skip it. Not using your LR off road is a real shame. That is what the car was built to do and the reason that it can cost more to own and operate. BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc are geared to on road driving and are not as complicated as the drivetrain in a LR. Based on your comment it sounds like you’d really like the LR. You should also check out the. New Defender. I’ve driven 2 so far and really liked it. I hopes this helps and feel free to reply.

    I have a well equipped 2019 petrol HSE Disco with the black pack for which I traded my Sport Autobiography. because of the seven seats. I am shocked at how nice this car is with seven seats and most all of the goodies at 78K MSRP. Your video is spot on. The ride is lovely. I live on an Island and this thing runs around the beach effortlessly. What I don't like is the oh so slight hesitation of the turbo six. It drives me nuts. I was tempted to try the TD6 but couldn't get my hands on one to test drive. This car is a tank. So much volume inside and it is very tricked out as you point out. I do wonder aside from the badging, if I were driving or standing next to an idling TD6, will I hear the click clack of the engine, a smell maybe? Bottom line is what is the down side of the diesel? Your video is very helpful. I don't know what else is in the Discovery's class with seven seats. Everyone that rides or drives it loves it. My Range Rovers have all been very reliable and issue free. The dealer is fantastic. What else can I say. This is like the Swiss Army Knife of SUV's.

    • @RoadandTract
      @RoadandTract  5 років тому

      Thanks for watching! The diesel sounds like a direct injected turbo gas engine. Funny enough that modern gas engines now sound like modetn diesels because they are more similar in technology these days. Gas vs diesel will always be a debate. I'd say diesel is silent on the highway and the gas engine is probably better for an island because you dont want old diesel fuel in your tank and lines. 400 miles on a tank of diesel will probably last you a few months! At that point, water and algae contamination could become an issue.

      @@melvinperc1626 my experience started off rather poorly. i bought a 2019 with 80k kms (approx 50k miles). i was not happy with the way it wondered on the highway and would not track straight. i took it to a Land Rover Dealer for an alignment, when i got the vehicle back it went from wondering to down right dangerous especially in the rain. In short order one of my front tires had little tread left. i took it to a tire shop and got new tires and an alignment. The tire shop reported that my Land Rover dealer’s alignment was “way off.” The tire shop’s alignment was beautiful and for the first time i loved the way the vehicle drove on the highway. I took the LR to the White Rim Road trail in Utah a fabulous trip where the off road ability and locking rear differential proved their value. However on this trip the exhaust crossover pipe started leaking filling the cabin with a diesel exhaust smell. This turned out to be a $5,000 USD repair. Ouch ! I also began having constant low battery warnings but the battery seemed to start the vehicle flawlessly. i read online that this was caused by poor grounds in the trunk. I cleaned all the grounds and ran a ground line between two of the trunk grounding points. the issue never reappeared. i have tried 4 different LR dealers and find them ridiculously over priced and incompetent. I am learning to do the maintenance myself and hope never to need a dealer again.
      Now that the vehicle is sorted i am really enjoying it. I now have 113,000 kms on it, approximately 70k miles, and hope to keep it for at least a couple of years. it depreciates at a mind boggling rate i suspect due to poor dealer service and expensive repairs. Check out the “LR time” UA-cam channel as it can be entertaining and helpful to LR owners.
