- U.S. deploys U-2 Dragon Lady to Ukraine to spy on Russian movements
U-2 spy planes flew out of RAF Fairford on daily missions to provide surveillance over Ukraine as Russian forces continued their illegal invasion. This high-flying narrow-body aircraft was part of the United States Air Force's 99th Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron. Although normally shrouded in secrecy with little public ability to observe Dragon Lady up close for nearly four years in RAF Fairford. The U-2 has provided many opportunities for local aviation enthusiasts to see the legendary Cold War spy plane up close in the air over Gloucestershire.

My dad was in the US Air Force which resulted in me living at RAF Upper Heyford in 1960-1962. Our quarters were at the edge of an open field that was a glide path for U2 spy planes returning from scoping out Russians. I just find this so . crazy. 60+ later and ... we have U2 plane. Yeah .. I know that they are upgraded etc. .. but still ... crazy.

The Russians shot it down back in the day. Look up Francis Gary Powers. That is why the SR71 was developed, that the Russians never could reach out and touch. Higher, and WAY, WAY, faster. We flew over every part of the USSR for many years, with total impunity. Now whether they DARE to do it is another story. I imagine they would, over their own airspace, but likely not over international waters.

If this is actually going to fly for Ukraine recon then it’s a good sign that the Russian Air Force has no option to attack it in international airspace. It’s good to have other eye-in-the-sky asset. Gods Speed and bring her home safely!
