  • The easiest game of hide and seek for PD Rex?
In the early hours of Monday morning, we received a call from a member of the public about a man acting suspiciously, trying car doors in Darlington.
The suspect was spooked and made off.
Believing he had ‘gone to ground’, officers began searching the area and that’s where PD Rex joined the game.
Using his impressive sniffing skills, he hunted out the hooded suspect hiding - rather badly - behind a parked car just minutes after being deployed.
Julian Cooper was arrested at the scene on suspicion of interfering with motor vehicles and theft and taken into custody.
The 33-year-old, of Rockingham Street, Darlington, was charged and put before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (September 5) where he pleaded guilty to three counts of vehicle interference and three counts of theft.
He was handed a community order and ordered to pay court costs and a victim surcharge.
