So easy yet so troublesome: Italeri´s 1/48th IAI Kfir C.1/ C.2

  • I started this kit months ago, last year in fact, but easy-to-build as it in theory was and few pieces as it did have, it was much of a trouble-maker, and many of the problems that I had during the build came not only from the typically inaccurate instructions by Italeri but also because of the inaccuracy of the kit itself.
In other words, this kit was fairly easy to do (even a beginner could try with it, provided the small amount of pieces that it had), but this kit is anything but trouble-free in spite of its simplicity.

Great job overcoming the build and kit problems with the Kfir. The end result is terrific looking. I agree, the camouflage scheme is cooler. Top marks.
    Bill.

+PanzermansBunker The only good thing about what I call "military dull grey" is that it makes a neater contrast with colorful marks like those black-and-yellow triangles than the other three-tone cammo pattern wore by the 1/72nd kit...

+Daniele .Modelling Thanks, Daniele. This has been one of the greatest trouble-makers that I ever did, and more than once I ran out of patience with it, but in the end I won... XP

I think it looks great Alan. Even with all the wrestling you had to do with it, it turned out grand.

+Dave Pugh Thanks Dave, but I DON´T recommend you to get this kit, if you come across it... :P

      Al,
That looks vaguely familiar to the ESCI kit.
But, I remember that being a full 2 piece fuselage.

I can't understand what's happening with Italeri. I remember when I was a child, it was one of the best model kit brands, so actually, each kit I bought let me down. The miracle goes with the cheaper one which keeps main parts in true proportions and decals aren't wrong. Indeed, the Kfir in 1/72 looks better than same plane in 1/48. I spent ONE YEAR to finish the unexistent details in the USS George Bush in 1/700, as radars, island lenght, and an unlimited list of small and big important things. I will made a video explaining that.

I met the same problems with Italeri´s 1/72nd Bell AB-212 helicopter (plus some extra problems with the damned gloss white paint) to the point that I left it aside a number of times and I was about to finally throw it to the dustbin. But in the end "something happened" and completion succeeded.
Also quite troublesome (and this one failed to see completion) was Italeri´s 1/48th Grumman F7F-3 Tigercat, and it was a shame, because it was looking so great. I threw it to the dustbin when it was almost completed, and that´s specially frustrating.
Now I´m working on Italeri´s 1/72nd AS.532 Cougar helicopter. So far, so good. I hope that this goes on this good... (gets fingers crossed).

I've bought a Skyhawk in 1/48, so I want to make a video building it. Crossing fingers too.

If it´s the same Italeri 1/48th Skyhawk I built some years ago, I hope that you don´t have the same problems with the wings leading edges slats and their bars, because after such pieces refused to stay open in my kit, I had to glue them in the closed position XP
