    All well and good but you don't show how to connect the monitor.

    I have bought 3 of these from 2 different vendors on Ebay. One was the 150 Amp version and the other 2 were the 200 Amp version. The display on all three quit units working shortly after installing them. They still pass current through them....but the display went black on all three. I would not recommend them at all.

    Can you put this on the battery bank instead to just read battery levels Instead of using it on the solar panels? And how would I do that?

    Do yours make a high pitched noise? All three of mine do, used for solar input, mppt to battery input and battery output. Noise can get annoying and go right through you sometimes 🤣

      simplest pwm 20A charge controller consumes less than 10mA. This toy is probably even less.

    Hello Iridium. Could you tell me how can you power OFF this meter? Or does it go automatically off when no charge or discharge is applied? how much does it draw on it own, with nothing else connected to it apart from the battery? Thanks

    Cool stuff! Always good to be able to see what is going on at various points in the system. Could you insert one of these on the panel side of your charge controller as well, so you can see the difference between what is coming in from your panels and what is going to your battery bank?

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  8 років тому

      Yup I assume that would work. Might not be perfect as the unit draws some power but it would work.

    The watt meter connects to the solar panel input on the charge controller ??? or the battery inputs on the charge controller ???

    • @SojournerNX
      @SojournerNX 4 роки тому

      The way he installed it, the watt meter is connected to the battery output of the charge controller. Basically it's between the charge controller and the batteries to monitor power usage.
      If you want to monitor how much power the solar panel is producing (i.e., watts), put the watt meter between the solar panel and the charge controller. Do not exceed the rated amperage and/or voltage of the meter. Solar panels have been known to fry these meters.

    I'm thinking of putting one in between solar panels and charge controller. I want to know the total power my panels make regardless of how much power my controller pulls from them. I want to figure if the panels can charge more batteries than currently hooked up. If you put the meter after the controller. Your only measuring what you give or take? Not the panels full potential. Am I right. I'm trying to understand all this. I will most likely need 2 meters. The second would be to monitor the state of batteries, power in and out.

      your question is why i ordered 3 200 amp watt meters. i want one before the charge controller, one after and one headed to the inverter. i havent connected them yet as i need to find a high amp connector so i can quick connect and disconnect them as i need for testing purposes

      @@jasonbrown467 for the connectors you might want to look into heavy duty extension cord end plugs. They're ment for 120v at 15 amps (1800watts). Should be fine for 12-24v at 100 amps Could be an easy way to test them out before you buy expensive connectors

    is it okey to put that between the battery and power inverter if so how? and the wires are skinny or can i use shunt resistor for this meter if so how?

    • @jasonbrown467
      @jasonbrown467 4 роки тому

      i would think it would depend on what is the maxium amperage the inverter can draw vs amps that the little metter can handle. i went with a 200 amp version of this so i can do that, but the cables are so small. i realize the length of cable makes a difference in amp load limits on cables too, maybe since the cable is so small it can handle 200 amps? my inverter from my tests so far, as i havent maxed it out yet will draw 220 amps @13 volts dc to produce about 2300 watts ac or so
