“I’ve Got a Feeling” is from SEARCHING, the long-awaited but only second album from the Staples Jr. Singers, the Mississippi family band behind 1975’s critically acclaimed When Do We Get Paid (Luaka Bop, 2022).
In “I’ve Got a Feeling,” the lead guitarist Brother R.C. takes a rare turn at the mic, singing an uplifting anthem, imbued with the band’s positive ethos: “I’ve got a feeling,” he sings on his porch in the intro with his wife Linda, “That everything’s going to be alright.”
Produced by Ahmed Gallab (aka the artist Sinkane) and recorded in a single-room church in West Point, MS, the original Staples Jrs.-Edward Brown, R.C. Brown, and Annie Brown Caldwell-are joined here by the new vanguard of their family: R.C.’s son Gary Brown, his grandson Jaylin Brown, and Edward’s son Troy Brown.
