    My mid-1970s Abu-matic 170 spin cast reel will probably last another 45 years. I just periodically clean and lubricate it. Works flawlessly. 🎣

    Dennis, really enjoyed your video. If one was to lose that c-clip, what size would I need to replace it. Are they metric or standard size? Thanks.

    I like Ambassadors. I have one that is 23 years old and has taken a beating. Replaced line pawl a couple times. spool tension adjustment knob and it's time for new drag washers but it's a great reel. It's a Swedish made model. Best $100 I ever spent. Is that a Chinese made version?

    • @richardsurber7928
      @richardsurber7928 Рік тому +1

      6600 and under are all still made in Sweden. Some 7000 parts are made in Sweden but assembled in China for some reason?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  Рік тому

      This is not a Chinese version and I do not think well of these made in China. There re a lot of plastic parts in the newer versions and I have seen a lot of them break.

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  Рік тому

      Hmm. It is it, is is simply the company using cheaper labor and sending over their inventory of parts to continue to make the reels until the parts are exhausted and the new ones made there. I haven't seen anything that says assembled in China with parts made in Sweden, but it is possible - Thanks - Dennis

    Another reel I always wanted and couldn’t afford when I was younger and raising kids. What is your general impression of this reel and how it compares to the regular Abu. Have to admit my favorite part about it is the color lol.

    I’m putting mine back together right now do I need to go in and clean it and can I just remove the gear side without removing the real side

  • @jerryees
    @jerryees 2 місяці тому

    Hell Sir I have an identical reel and was wondering if it takes a spacer washer behind both spool bearings? The reason I'm asking is because my spool gear doesn't seem to engage when putting back in unless it has a washer installed first. Wasn't sure if this reel requires a washer on both bearings?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  2 місяці тому

      There is a thin washer behind the one bearing, but that is not likely to cause the issue you are describing. You can check the schematic here www.reelschematic.com/wp-content/uploads/schematics/Abu%20Garcia/Round%20Baitcast/6000/Ambassadeur%206600C4%2023%2000.pdf
      Did you have the reel apart? the common cause is that the yoke spring is hot holding pressure on the yolk to push the pinion gear in to engage.
      A less common issue on reinstallation is that he pinion gear was installed backwards and cannot grip the spool shaft. You should check both - Dennis

    • @jerryees
      @jerryees 2 місяці тому

      @2ndChanceTackle wow when I move the washer to the break side and install the spool gear it clicks when I push it in but spins freely

    I just cleaned my 6600 C4 but after pushing the button for free spool, when i start to crank the handle it goes around one whole turn before the button releases and pops up. something is sticking or not back together right. Maybe something has oil on it that shouldn't. I will try pushing the button up when putting the side plate back on. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    • @richardsurber7928
      @richardsurber7928 Рік тому

      Should be a small slot the pin goes into the side plate. If in correctly with the trip mechanism it should engage almost immediately. Make sure all the internals are in the right order as well.

      Thanks for your thoughts. I really enjoy taking my reels apart and cleaning them along with my rods.
      I will take it apart and reassemble again. I enjoy this channel and the teaching of Dennis.

      Bill - make sure that the click ratchet that sits on the bottom of the gear post is seated firm and even. That ratchet has a rectangle slot that fits the shoulder at the bottom of the post. If it came loose or is not sitting flush, the ratchet will wobble and miss the tag on the release lever. That will cause your issue. - I would go back and make sure it is in there correctly. - Dennis

    What is the 6601 ambassador I have 2 looks just like that but it's a 6601 what's the difference an what one is better

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  Рік тому

      These are just iterations of the reel. The differences in various modes have to do with the internal gears and free spool release mechanisms. Yours is an earlier version. The odd number 6601 means it is a left handed crank to the even numb red 6600 right hand drive. - Dennis

    I have this reel, and my release button every time I go to cast, it’s really tough to push and hurts your thumbs over time. Any way to loosen the button?

    • @2ndChanceTackle
      @2ndChanceTackle  10 місяців тому +1

      This is likely old grease in the channels or a bent release bar. If the thumb button spans the frame, you will need to replace the frame. I would recommend taking the reel apart and doing a service before thinking about the frame as old grease may be the culprit - Dennis
