Thank you very much, I was just quoted $650 & $700 for a mechanic to install a new starter motor, so this will save me a lot of money! :D
I used this video to remove the starter on a 2008 Saturn Astra.
The top bolt will come out without removing any plastic parts or alternator or wheel. I fed the socket in on a small ext then added other extensions until I could get the wrench on and wiggle the lot to engage with the bolt.
Starter motor has corroded copper braid from inside the motor to the solenoid post. I pulled the motor apart and fitted large gauge wire to replace. Cleaned the bushings and armature.
All working again. Only cost $3.00 for solder.
Without this video I would have removed way too many parts.
I'm behind you 👋🏻
Very good video. This will help me a lot when im taking the starter out from my Opel Combo! Thank you very much!!
Great work
Where exactly is it located, i cant see it
Nice, i have a Question are you did on a lifting platform?
I know it's been 2 years since this video, but I have saturn astra , need to take starter out, any tips for removing the top bolt ? There's no space
Glos dobry, tonacja tez, mozna posluchac 👍
No mate is that we're the crankshaft sensor located? Would I have to remove starter motor to access it or would you be able to get to it by not removing it I'm just unsure were it is
Do you know much about the starter motor on the Vauxhall combo 2011 1.3cdti? I looked on gsf and they are 1.1kw, but people are saying that’s underpowered? What do you think lala?
Lala I wouldn't bother listening to people. Just buy the recommended starter motor n off u go. It will serve the purpose and make you satisfied.
I think it is my starter that is bad after a couple of turns of the key my lights are flashing on the dash and then it don’t turn over the battery is good. If I drive the car if will start up but it’s very lazy does it sound like it’s the starter motor
Very helpful video - thanks. Just wanted to ask - why did you start the car then disconnect the battery? Why not just disconnect the earth? Also, is your vehicle a stop/start model?
That was another car starting up. It wasn't this one where I was working. This vehicle didn't have start stop feature.
@@diykhan thanks for clearing that up. I have never tried, but it is theoretically possible to start a Diesel and then remove the battery, it should run for a few seconds.
The location of the starter motor is a scam I'm so tired of car manufacturers making jobs difficult just to get more money
Wait till you see what it takes to do valve cover gaskets on a V8 powered 3 series BMW.
On some 1.7 diesel astra h, The bottom bolt is 17 mm. The top one is a male E torx, but a multi spline 'total drive' socket 3/8 deep socket, works well., it is removed gearbox side..
Yes it is a bugger to get on, u need to use a 3/8 ratchet. And maybe extension.. and small tube on ratchet if tight for help.
Doesn't show in this video, as i think this is petrol engine,
Every time I go to turn the engine on fues 34 which is for the dash lights keeps blowing up change it works then week later does it again any reasons why could it be starter motor conection lose ?
Looks very fiddley and I suppose you need a ramp or pit to gain access from underneath? I don't think I have the confidence
Is this left hand or right hand drive
This one is a right hand drive. It doesn't matter if the car is left or right hand drive. The location of starter motor be at the same place
@@diykhan The Solenoid of The starter on The LHD cars is oriented Upper, not down (în my vauxhall Vectra b, Z16xe, 2002)
Right now im struggling with The Upper bolt... ☹️
Which model of Astra is this?
@@diykhan I have a Vauxhall MK6 J10 Astra 2.0CDTI. Is this the same process?
Hi my car starts fine in the morning when it’s cool but after driving few miles when the engine becomes hot it’s doesn’t start back.stater motor makes some slipping noise..I changed the stater motor as well ..but same problem..but when the car cools again it starts again perfectly…plz help
Pars
The car im working on the oil filter housing is there. I hate vauxhall with a passion
Poorly described top bolt removal.
This video helped massivly so thank you for posting it. I just changed one in under an hour on my drive, could probably do it again in 30 mins or less. One tip, for easier access to the top bolt put it in 3rd gear, moves the selector arm out of the way and you can undo it with a 3/8 short extension and an E18 socket.
Hi, I just did this, didn't know about the 3rd gear trick and couldn't find any access from the top. Still completed it quickly enough and as you say, could probably do another in half the time. Don't expect to need to very soon though! Fitted a brand new one rather than a recon. Cheers
@@RedScorp1an I'm really struggling getting that 13 mm top bolt in any help?
@@connorwatts6406 Other than following this video and accessing it from the top side of the engine I don't think there's another way. It wasn't too bad but did take a bit of searching to get to.
Same here, my car is a saturn astra, just sitting until i get that top bolt, cant seem to find a spot @connorwatts6406
