Amazing, their music is so good! Saw then few years ago at concert his voice is still there. This video was cutting edge at the time and still holds up now!
Yay! Was obsessed with A-ha’s first two albums. Also had a massive crush on Morten Harket! Still love his voice. I think the video still stands up today, it took about 4 months to make and uses a process called Rotoscoping.
I don't know if you followed the storyline of the music video but when the lady cafe owner thought the girl who went inside the comic book world stiffed her coffee check she crumpled up the comic book & threw it into the trash can. Then the 2 racers who lost the race at the start of the music video got into the lead singer & the girl's world because their worlds collided when the comic was crumpled. They chased the good guys until they were cornered until the lead singer opened up a portal to the real world. That's when the girl was on the floor next to the trash can. Thanks for liking the video - they had to hand-draw every single frame - much respect goes to that! And some extra frames where the girls shoes slips - props to the director for forcing the animation crew working overtime.
I remember how epic this video was when it came out, nothing like it had really been done before and it still looks good by todays standards - although if done today they would probably use some horrendous CGI and it just would have the same feel. And yeah Morten Harket looks hot as hell now, certainly aged well.
Still makes me emotional after all these years, there’s a documentary on UA-cam about the song and video. Morten goes back to the cafe and catches up with Bunty, the song had to have more than one release for it to be successful
The most expensive video ever made. Along with sowing the seeds of love video ( tears for fears ). 2 guys drew the entire video. The technique of the cartoon is called Rotoscoping and was invented and pioneered by Walt Disney 30s. This is not CGI this is all by hand. Outstanding!

It's obviously not the video that is the reason why the song has passed five million radio plays in the United States. The number is from May 2019. That is 300-400 times a day on average, for 35 years.
Indeed Kari. My disappointment in myself is immeasurable and no words can adequately express my remorse regarding my inexcusable faux pas. I am mortified that I got to make such a Schoolboy error and I only try to crave your forgiveness for my brief moment of total complete and utter insanity in making this mistake. aha hail from norway and this was a bit hit in 1985. i became an aha fan when i was 16 and i still am a fan today and i’m 52 now. such an underrated band you should check out more of their music. i’m sure you’ll be equally impressed. thankyou for your honest reaction to take on me. you should check out the slowed down live version of take on me from mtv unplugged. take care and stay safe. 😘
A-Ha has so many good songs! Their entire "Hunting High and Low" album is a freaking masterpiece. Song-wise, check out "The Sun Always Shines on TV", "Train of Thought", "Hunting High and Low" (title track of that same album), "Stay On These Roads"... they even did a James Bond theme, "The Living Daylights".
@@lindsJP It’s lovely. I’ve had the CD for a long time, but I’ve only recently managed to get ALL of my vinyl in one place with my turntable. I feel like a kid again. ❤️
"Cozy prisons", "Analogue", "Summer moved on", "Crying in the rain" (a cover but a wonderful one), "Don't do me any favours" - a few more of their songs I would recommend.
There is no doubt that the video was crucial for "Take on me" to be as big a hit as it became. That said, it's obviously not the video that is the reason why the song has passed five million radio plays in the United States. The number is from May 2019. That is 300-400 times a day on average, for 35 years. In October 2018, Billboard published a list of the most streamed songs in the world (on all platforms combined) from the 20th century. "Take on me" came in fifth place (463 million on Spotify alone in May 2019), in the celebratory company behind Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", Nirvana's "Smells like teen spirit" and two Guns N'Roses songs: "Sweet child O'Mine" and "November Rain". That same month, the New York edition of TimeOut ranked the best songs from the 80's. "Take on me" won a silver medal, behind Whitney Houstons's "I wanna dance with somebody" (which in May 2019 had 321 million on Spotify). "Take on me" is still today extremely popular, and who knows - if it came out today it might have been a hit, as well.
If a Norwegian doesn't know this song, it's like not knowing our national anthem 😄🇧🇻 Another Norwegian artist you should check out is Erik Faber - he's fabulous! 🥰 My favourite tracks are "Desire" and "Here I am" with the hidden track "Between the lines (Piano version)".
Lol the reaction (:. A HA. EPICNESS FIRENESS GOLDNESS PERFECTION (:. React too The Sun doesn't shine on tv (:. His range in that one is crazy good (: Amazing range (:
Amazing reaction Pancake!!! Hunting High and Low & Stay On These Roads are 2 of my fav songs of all time. You need to listen to those and love from Ireland as always xxx
Hi Marshmallow Pancake, Great reaction! and i am glad you appreciated the instrumentation and all its nuances of his voice, i remember seeing this video growing up and being influenced to draw more, i have another super 80's song, that to my knowledge no one has reacted to surprisingly it is by a group named -QFeel and the song is 'Dancing in Heaven' hope you give it a listen and that its reaction worthy, have a happy Wednesday!
Thanx so much for your reaction. I wanted to tell you how they did the animation because even at the time of this video they had to draw each scene. Each scene was planned out and each scene was photographed. They laid down tracing paper and pencilled out the drawing from the photograph. Even now doing that in a computer might have to make use of software. But that’s how they did it back then.it would have required video of the scenes where moving video was taking place and then photographs with a camara that would each be traced. This would have taken a long time to produce and maybe more than one artist.
Even though Duran Duran had many more number 1 hits, I really regard A-ha as one of their foremost rivals during the 80's. Maybe it's because I'm norwegian and A-ha is a norwegian band, but I really think they made some very good music. The song that both lyrically and sonically is best in my opinion is " I've been loosing you." If however you are drawn to Morten Harket's looks, you could certainly do worse than the music video for "Move to Memphis", which is another banger. My third suggestion would be an Everly brothers cover "Crying in the rain", a very good ballad.
In America, A-Ha was kind of a "one hit wonder" and none of their other songs did as well here as Take On Me (even though they have MANY songs that are better). Duran actually kind of considered Spandau Ballet more as their "rival".
This was one of the first albums I ever begged my parents to buy me (spoiler alert: they did!) and I fell in love with the band. They’re super talented and Morten’s voice is like no other. All of their music is fantastic, but my favorite song is The Sun Always Shines on TV. I think someone else mentioned this too, the instrumentation on it is phenomenal. Plus the video picks up right where this one leaves off! Loved your reaction.
Thanks for doing this song. Thanks for recognising how amazing this video is was at the time.they had to hand draw all the animation I guess computers weren't up to it then.it got nominated for MTV video awards and lost out to dire straits money for nothing video that had the same guy doing both videos at the VMAs. I had a poster of them on my wall (Morton is beautiful) and learnt the lyrics to a lot of the songs off this album a bit nerdy I know 😁. He recently was on the masked singer UK. Please do the sun always shines on TV it's kind of a sequel and hunting high and low.
Fun reaction! Iconic song! On Season 2 of "The Masked Singer U.K." earlier this year, A-ha's Morten Harket performed his own song, "Take on Me," and the judges still had no idea who he was. Granted, the 61-year-old didn't attempt to hit the high note at the end of the chorus that goes "I'll be gone ... in a day or twoooooo." 🙂See below for the clips.
Thanks for this reaction. If you like the song please react to Diana Ankudinova doing a cover. She (in the video) is a 16yo Russian singer recording in her bedroom during lockdown. I guarantee you haven’t heard anything like her before, she is incredible! Take on me, Diana Ankudinova - ua-cam.com/video/wUIUwQnIE_4/v-deo.html

Did you know that A-HA and theyr success has become this huge discussion between Norwegians? Some believe that all the other artists/bands might be cursed, since many of them clearly has the talent that A-HA had & still has,but somehow when it comes to "popular music",they all try for some years only to have theyr dreams crushed then they disband (break up). Myself i have listened to foreign fans of Norwegian artists, and they all say the same. They can barely see any music videos on YT,as the official stuff is mostly region blocked. And news/updates about the artists/bands are almost impossible to find, the same goes for band merch and albums to purchase. I think most artists/bands has a management and crew around them that basically works against them. It doesnt make sence to limit theyr videos from being shown in countries the band works hard to "get a foot in". How about i suggest to you some of theese? (This is suggestions, and not requests...i did this as a job in radio, and i dont take it personal if none gets reacted to) Lets start with a really good one that suffered from what i just mentioned. Alot of theyr greatest music videos seems region blocked in the states, even a duet they did WITH a American singer songwriter (doesnt make any sence right?) This band was looked upon as our next big thing, and here is the good part: They got discovered by *drumroll* A-HA! Morten actually called them up after seeing them on a Norwegian music awards show called Hit Awards, said they were a really cool band and "would you like to tour with us?". When A-HA does this, the entire nation gasps......because you dont get much bigger as a band then A-HA in Norway. So people would start predicting how Briskeby (the bands name) would be the next big thing, now that they even had A-HA backing them. I think i have discovered that a few of theyr official music videos are open for "US YT servers". Briskeby - Cellophane Eyes is one of them, where lead vocalist Lise Karlsnes has an eyegame like no other (she is a hottie, and even became an Idol within the gay/lesbian community here because of her stunning styles, confidence on stage and so on) Briskeby is best categorized as a rock band with "pop vibes",along the lines of U2,INXS,Depeche Mode and bands alike. Briskeby - Wide Awake is another one that seems to not be region blocked. Briskeby - Propaganda is a third one without region block,Propaganda was theyr first single and massive hit in Norway. But if you for some reason are able to watch Briskeby - Joe Dallesandro (comes up region blocked for me,when testing with a US ip) Thats theyr beautiful duet with American singer songwriter Ken Springfellow. Its a beauty of a song, and one we all thought would make them known in the US. Briskeby - Hey Baby comes up blocked for me,but its my favourite song by them,so if you are able to watch the video, this song proves theyr greatness. Briskeby - Miss You Like Crazy is also one that shows up region blocked, but here Lise is at her absolute hottest, and the song itself makes you just want to dance. But expect them to probably have "block attempts" on them if reacted to,but i have seen you do things to the actual videos to prevent this,so there are ways to "work around it". If just to show you some of the unavailable videos,im sure i could do something for you there,if you so wished at a later point. (They got even more songs, some are even live performances wich seems to be open worldwide) Here are some artists that are still active (Briskeby tried to do a comeback a few years later, only to release 1 or 2 music videos on theyr very own yt channel, but then nothing.... Lise has ever since tried a solo career, plus been a judge at talent shows, been invited to talk shows etc) I think you will fall in love with theese artists, and the good thing is,i know several of them so i might notify them if you ever react to theyr music. How about something fresh from this summer? Nico & Vinz - Peace (Official Music Video) This song could not have come at a better time, knowing what goes on in the world, especially with Ukraine. But i do believe the lyrics is more general then so,and dont worry. The song will make you feel joy and you will have a difficult time sitting still! Nicolay "Nico" Sereba (born 1990) is from Holmlia. He has an Ivorian father and a Norwegian mother. Vincent "Vinz" Dery (born 1990) is from Lambertseter. Both his parents came to Norway from Ghana. This is a sunshine story of 2 young boys coming from different cultures, different backgrounds, still they bounded right away when starting at the same school and class together in Norway, there they discovered theyr common passion for music. The rest is history as they say. Theese 2 guys has already held concerts in USA and has a growing fanbase there now. A duo we hope will be "the next A-HA". (They got more songs to react to,but Peace is perfect as a number 1 song) There are reactions to them on YT already. Madcon - One Life ft. Kelly Rowland (Another duo from Norway you will find funny,as they constantly goof around while performing) Here they landed a collab with gorgeous Kelly Rowland from Destinys Child with Beyonce & others. Theese guys has alot of songs to react to as well, but this is perfect to start with. Julie Bergan - Blackout (Live @ Lindmo NRK) This performance is unplugged more or less,to show Julies vocals better. The official music video is much faster paced and raw. Thats why i suggest to listen to this live performance first, then: Julie Bergan - Blackout (Official Music Video) I have common girl friends with Julie,so i might whisper in her ear if there is a future reaction lol. Ruben - Running (Maybe our most talented male solo artist in years, and he comes from a small village with only a few hundred inhabitants, proving that nomatter where you come from, you can make it. I suggest you watch the official music video first, then this one: Ruben - Running (Live - VG-lista) Abit of backstory as to why i put the live version last? Okay, here goes: Ruben was supposed to perform this in front of a potential 80-90 000 people at "VG Lista" ( an annual free concert in Oslo,Norway where also artists from around the world comes to perform, the entire day only music itself is celebrated) But as we all know,Covid came and hit us all hard. So here we see hosts of VG Lista with a small number of "lucky winners" to experience him performing his latest big hit Running,in a safe covid free enviorment. Almost no instrumentals, just Rubens pure raw talent. It is as heart warming as it might be a "tear jerker". But in a positive way! Last one out for now: Eva & The Heartmaker - Take a Ride. (I know Eva personally who now has become a solo artist, singing in Norwegian and has become Norways top selling, most loved female solo artist. She created Eva & The Heartmaker with her now husband Thomas Stenersen aka The Heartmaker. Thomas is still playing guitar for Eva,just now as "part of her backing band". Eva & The Heartmaker had all the potential and talent in the world to make it big outside of Norway, they just didnt have the luck, proper backing etc. One of thoose bands that makes you go WOW,because of theyr international sound, songwriting and skill live as well as on record. They have a good amount of official videos as Eva & The Heartmaker, and most of the available live performances i might actually have a hand in making available on youtube. You might get hooked on this band, and Eva is quite the stunner vocally and as a woman. Plus her personality is just amazing,so welcoming, open, inclusive and loving always. Plus very witty, cracks silly comments and jokes all the time. Eventhough you wont understand much of her solo songs,i think you might love the sound. She goes even deeper with her lyrics as a solo artist. I promise i wont be making comments of this length again, but i hope you enjoy the little backstory about every suggestion. 🥰
Thank you so much for these suggestions!! 😊 I’ve certainly had trouble with some of my favorite artists having regionally blocked content. I’m not sure why this is the case, but I really hope it changes in the near future!
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude you are very welcome! Yeah i have never understood the regional blocks for youtube. Because we all know the artists themselfs wants to reach as many new potential listeners as possible. Its the most counter productive thing ever on UA-cam and other platforms (i have learned that the same now goes for f ex Spotify, where you actually support the artists by listening to them) It needs to change for sure!
Can you wish me a happy birthday for the 10th of August? Sorry I was on holiday so only reacting now. Thanks, cos I love this song and esp video, too, and your channel xx

@@NoCanDu Living a Boys Adventure Tale must sound even better on vinyl! x
@@lindsJP It’s lovely. I’ve had the CD for a long time, but I’ve only recently managed to get ALL of my vinyl in one place with my turntable. I feel like a kid again. ❤️
Back in the days when we used to actually draw ❤ video just gets better and better with age.
If a Norwegian doesn't know this song, it's like not knowing our national anthem 😄🇧🇻
Another Norwegian artist you should check out is Erik Faber - he's fabulous! 🥰 My favourite tracks are "Desire" and "Here I am" with the hidden track "Between the lines (Piano version)".
Try their song "The sun always shines on TV". It's awesome!

Great Reaction, B! Iconic video and unique song. You can hear the musical influences on the recent Weeknd track, ' Blinding Lights'
I definitely hear the inspiration!
Amazing reaction Pancake!!! Hunting High and Low & Stay On These Roads are 2 of my fav songs of all time. You need to listen to those and love from Ireland as always xxx
Thank you!
One of the best video ever. Great reaction!! 🙂
Thank you for watching!
Thank you!
That’s incredible! Thank you so much for watching!
@@AJ17_ in America maybe, but a-ha were far superior in their song writing. and morten harket has one of the best voices of the last 30 plus years.
As a Duran Duran die hard, I have nothing but respect for A-Ha. They were the champions of 1985 with this hit!
In France A-Ha had more hits than Duran Duran. I love this band and if I had to choose a song it would be 'The sun always shines on TV' .
Both were at the top of my list. Japan, and Ultravox were a couple other favorites.
You have no idea how ground breaking that was back in 1985...
Thanks!!
Please do the sun always shines on TV it's kind of a sequel and hunting high and low.
such a classic! :D
Please try Sparks-This town ain’t big enough for the 2 of us. Classic

@@hmsweet5227 Sensory deprivation tanks. When I was younger and more adventurous, I didn't have the skill (or money) to build a tank. Now, older with skill (and money) I don't have the adventurousness. I have too many demons.
The dialogue in Altered Sates is sublime because Paddy Chayefsky was involved.
Pancake listen to more joy by Duran Duran lyric video. Ull love it
People in the comments section, doesn't Morten remind you of Josh Hartnett?
Now you have to listen to "The Sun Always Shines on TV"!
Can you react to Soul to Soul “back to life” cheers
(This is suggestions, and not requests...i did this as a job in radio, and i dont take it personal if none gets reacted to)
Lets start with a really good one that suffered from what i just mentioned.
(They got even more songs, some are even live performances wich seems to be open worldwide)
Here are some artists that are still active (Briskeby tried to do a comeback a few years later, only to release 1 or 2 music videos on theyr very own yt channel, but then nothing....
