I am French it is difficult for French to rent apartment. Research Visale, tenant insurance, utilities, waste charges etc. Unfurnished or furnished the rules are different. There are many extra expenses renting in France.
Thanks so much for posting this. It very RICH with useful info. I am trying to find a fixed term rental apartment for 5-6 months in the French Riviera & will let you know how it goes
You’re welcome !! I’ll eventually be posting an updated vid now that I’ve gone through the process a few times - good luck with your search, can’t wait to hear your updates ☺️
The dossier can definitely be a headache 😬 I honestly think it’ll depend on each landlord/lady themselves as to what documents they’ll accept, but the translated docs are worth a try!!
I would like to know more about the area's price range for example, I'm moving to the south of France. I like Marseille but its a big city. There are towns outside of Marseille that are much cheaper.
@@BlaBlaKaity Of course I will! You're so kind. I've been selected for the program but I haven't confirmed where I'd be. My choices were Grenoble, Caen and Reims.
Just happy to help 💃🏻💃🏻 Maybe things have changed this year, but I’m surprised they haven’t confirmed your placement yet (though I’ve heard lovely things about all three of those académies). In any case, félicitations, and bon courage !
Thank you so much for the video! Super helpful! I have a friend who just got back from TAPIF. She mentioned that my first step should be to reach out to the schools that your placed with and see if they have any housing available or have any leads or contacts to reach out to. I’d like to know more about banking. You mentioned in one of your videos to close your bank account in the US. Can you open a new account in France and keep your US one open? What about exchanging your US dollars to euros? Do you transfer your American dollars to your new French bank account? Thank you in advance! I love your videos! Super helpful. Thank you so much.
@@mariahsmith5776 De rien !! And yes, DEFINITELY check with your school first to see if they have housing available. Mine didn't, but they put me into contact with my eventual landlord. Ahh, the beauty of networking :) And thank you for these questions on banking! To give you a quick answer for the first one: yes, you can have both French and US accounts open at the same time. Your next two questions require a little more explanation, just because there's several options that you have for exchanging and transferring USD. I'll talk about these more in depth in my next Wednesday video!
We are having a problem here in Nice, France. Been searching for three weeks and every agency wants me to have earnings declared in France. But, I own a company in the USA and have not declared income in France because I pay tax at the end of the year. How do I obtain an apartment to live and pay taxes if they want me to show earnings to declare but I cannot live here to do that!? Catch 22
Hey Kayla, I wish I could be of more help, but since I didn’t have to compile a dossier when I was renting in France, I’m not sure about the specifics of getting these docs translated. From the resources I’ve been able to find online (other channels and blogs), no one has explicitly said that these translations need to be official. As I plan to start the apartment hunt (again) in France, I’m just going to translate the documents myself. But I will definitely keep your questions in mind, and will address them in a future video after doing some more research!
You will need a registered translator and the documents will need to be stamped for authenticity. Some charge per word others per page. But for a document like drivers license you pay about 45€ - 120€ depending what region you are in.
Bonne question! In this case, I've read that you can provide a letter of attestation from a previous landlord. Of course, you'll want to translate this to French as well.
Hi ! Usually on the search engine sites, there will be an option for “particuliers” (this means that the posting is coming from an individual landlord as opposed to an agency ☺️)
what is the registration process in France how can the authorities knows where i live bcz i am in Germany here we must do registration like Anmeldung whats about France
What else do you want to know about finding an apartment in France? Do you have any more advice to add?

the dossier is killing me.... Thanks for mentioning that I can get some of this stuff from home as long as they're translated. Gives me some hope.

Liked your video. Looks like Jinka is only in French.
Thanks Ray ! And yes, I think the app is only in French - let me know if you’re having trouble navigating it !
I'm having a hard time navigating the app. You may need to do a video just for that app 😅
How exactly do you translate your documents to French? Was it expensive for you to get them translated?

Anybody know what to do for the dossier if you don't currently pay rent and thus don't have rent payments in your bank statements?

To my knowledge, this isn’t required in France (I’ve never had to do anything like it, and have never heard other people doing it either) !
