I am open to any comments/corrections to what I have said during the video as I am as well, learning about this great hobby.

i CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THIS VIDEO . It has answered some many questions I had on it and taken away some of the negative comments about the engine.
My D32 is coming Monday and I hope it is all you say it is. We will see for it gets tiring to hear it was better years ago....maybe true years ago cars had real heavy steel bodies ..today not even close! Thanks again
Your very welcome! The only "negatives" in my opinion is they have too high of wattage heaters in them and it makes way too much steam if plugged directly into the wall. I guess thats why they added an on/off switch to cycle the heaters while running. Using a variable transformer solves that problem. The other issue with them is the boiler is quite thin and long discontinued... I only run soft water in mine and after finishing with running it, attach an aquarium air pump to the boiler drain valve and leave the safety valve off the top and the small movement of air will dry the boiler in a day or so. To help preserve it as long as possible. Enjoy!

Hiya, great and informative video, just one very small correction, the waste pipe does not travel straight down from front to back it goes at an angle to a hole under the back of the housing and up to the chimney, the pipe you pointed out as being the waste steam pipe going to the chimney is in fact the pipe taking water from the chimney back to the condesate tray. just in case someone is trying to route these two pipes

finally! I can understand you and you understand mechanical things! Excellent discussion about the D32. I'll have some questions for you when my first engine arrives. It's a D20el. that I plan on completely rebuilding.

I just got a D20, fuel fired. I've had a few Jensen engines, but this is my first Wilesco, and I'm extremely impressed with the quality. The boiler comes up to pressure pretty fast and holds temperature very nicely, even to the point where I don't have to use as much fuel to maintain pressure once everything is warmed up. The engine operation surprised me by how smooth and quiet it is. When things get a little noisy, drop some more oil in the oiler cup and it quiets right down again - amazing!
That's a heavy duty model engine. Good video.

I just made a bid on ebay for a D22, the D32 is way too pricy for me at the moment. Wonderful machine, though.
I bought an old d32 for not much money, but its just the engine, I am thinking of building a boiler for it, as well as putting a real governor on it
should have made a non electric one to.
I have a d32, with no original clutch pad. Do you know what kind of material they used for the clutch pad?
Hi Rik, sorry for the late reply. I’m not sure what the clutch material is. Almost reminds me of Bakelite? Hope you’ve found an answer by now.
I have got a wilesco D32 but the valve stack for the water valve is broken. I have not investigated it ye but was wondering whether anyone knows if replacement pairs are available. If so where can I find these to purchase?

+Sophie Louise Hello, not sure which part you are referring to...If you could tell me what time in my video I am talking about the part you need I could better help you. The feedwater pump check valves located at the back behind the engines? or the control valve for the feedwater pump on the control panel up front?As these engines have been discontinued since 1981. Many new replacement parts are not available... the best resource for parts that I have found is eBay. EBay.com or eBay.de for eBay Germany. You will need to use Google translate to use eBay Germany but I have found many good parts from helpful sellers there.There is also a model steam engine forum that is very helpful with advise and tracking down hard to find partswww.mamodforums.co.uk/
+Harley L Hi, you discuss the part which is broken at 7:54. The section with the drain tap on one side and an outlet/inlet pipe on the other side that has broken at the bottom where it connects to the pump. It is the section above the chamber, where the section has been broken from the top of the chamber. I don't mind buying the complete feed water pump if the part is easier to obtain than just the broken section.

P.S. I am asking this information on behalf of my dad as he is useless with computers but is good with steam engines. He's got loads.
+Sophie Louise Ok, if its the pipes that have broken off right where it joins to the feedwater pump all that has to be done is re soldering it back together. A fairly common problem as the soldered joints are a point of high stress. As the pipes are already disconnected I would recommend CAREFULLY taking the pump apart and make sure the check balls and ball seats inside are clean so that the pump will work properly when its running. Replace all the pump gaskets (there is a gasket every 1/2 inch or so) with new ones and make sure they are tight before re attaching the lines as you will not be able to turn them after the pipes are joined, also be careful to not use too much solder as it could drip down inside the pump and plug it. If you were able to find a new feedwater pump it would require soldering in the same areas to install it.I had a similar problem happen to this engine where the pipe leading from the top of the pump to the boiler burst open on it while running... not fun!here's my repair job: Hopefully you will be able to view the picturesmodelsteam.myfreeforum.org/archive/my-d32-went-down-in-a-steamy-cloud__o_t__t_59571.html

I need to convert mine to a 110 from the 220...what wires do I need to move around?
Hi John, Every D32 has 2 heaters. Each heater has 2 wires. In a 220 volt configuration the heaters are in series with each other. You will need to change them to being in a parallel style circuit so one wire from each heater has 110 volt power and the other wire will be going to the neutral. By using an ohm meter you can determine which pair of wires are for each individual heater and wire it accordingly as well as changing the plug. Its quite straightforward however if this is something out of your comfort zone I highly suggest you talk with an electrician before changing anything. These heaters are long long discontinued so a simple wiring mistake could result in the steam engine turning into a shelf queen.

@@harleyl3863 Good video...where is the junction box with the wiring...under the boiler or underneath the base? Do you have a photo? It it hard to get at to work on?

@@eegg6954 Are you implying thst the Chinese couldn't make d32 engines ? You can't be serious. I myself have considered making a superior product in the US that would cost significantly less. I do admire the d32.
@@robertgsmith5761 No, I'm saying they wouldn't work. They'd also leak, rust and go on fire. Might explode too. The edges would cut your fingers. They'd smell bad.
