Check under the carpet in the trunk by the wheel wells. I bet you will find rust there as well. If you do, that means the upper frame rails are shot. The upper frame rails hold the rear struts on the car. This is a common rust area on these cars. I've scrapped one for this exact reason. But please keep going with a fiero swap project! I like your videos. Just a guy swapping engines in cool cars!
“Wishy Washy Joshy, Lieutenant Dan ain’t got no radio!!” Man, keep up the humour, that shit shines through. Hope your having as much fun putting these out as I am watching them. 👍🏻
Agree drop the sub frame and check it out. If your dead set on using this one see if either of the others have good metal at the bits you need and cut them apart and patch it up..
I've fixed that frame rail rust, it's not too bad, especially if you've got a lift. If I had a pristine frame on a parts car, I would opt for that car. More importantly though, I don't see an E-brake cable meaning if you ran it like that before you parked it, it had no rear brakes. Wether you use this car or another fiero, do yourself a favor, order a set of the flexible hydraulic lines because that's likely why you have sticking rotors, your parts cars aren't going to have usually lines, and buy a set of E-brake cables
I designed my own flywheel and adapter plate along with all the brackets to install a small block Chevy in a 1988 fierro back in 2003. The Fieroguru designed a starter mount that is in the stock location for the LS4. The drawback to this is you have to cut a hole in the bellhousing of the transmission. LS4 king has an oil pan that locates the starter underneath it. It can be purchased from Moroso. You cannot mount the starter on the aft side of the engine in relation to how it mounts in the Fiero. The water pump manifold has to be modified. The filler neck is in the way of the deck hinge. There are several options to relocate the filler neck with a little imagination. Spec make a dual clutch and aluminum flywheel for the LS4 with F40. That's what I'm doing with mine. As far as the flywheel I designed for the SBC, it was based on the 2.8L flywheel. The base was offset for the depth difference in the SBC crank flange. I modeled everything in CAD.
The first small blocks bolted to power glide. didn't have a boss for starter. They had a adapter that was sandwiched between the transmission and block
There's a guy that put one in a corvair that had to rebuild all the "frame" rails. He also built a vw with a wrx motor. If you can find it, it might be worth your time, especially if you wanna use this car.
I used to own an 1989 ferio and the main problem I had was the front end was to light, it would hydro plane in water and made the front brakes useless, with a v8 in the engine bay you will have to weight down the front so you do not drift into a curb like mine did. You will probably need to make a new push rod for the slave cylinder like I had to do, a little longer one will make it easier to bleed the air out, of course mine had the muncie transmission in it, with a trans adapter set up for the norstar v8 it cost a few bucks but well worth it. Also need to re route the harness from the computer compartment to the engine as to close to the header that's next to the firewall, the ferio was natoriously melting the wires from the factory causing the parasitic drain, wich was why the car was discontinued for production, (thank fire) if your harness is melted yet my suggestion is rerouting it, and adding a little longer wires for clearance, After the cradle is dropped out the frame is easy to get to for repairs it's worth saving the car, for the ls conversion, you could do something like subframe connectors, but you would have to make them yourself, wich should probably be done anyway as it would now be a v8 car and you still want to open and close the doors. Good luck, it will be super car fast.
The V6 firebird and Camaro bellhousing should fit the bellhousing mount on the LS4. I think that might get you a mounting spot for a starter. Not fully sure about the starter mount, but the bell should fit the engine, if that helps you.
I totally miss my Fiero V6. I took a old 86 Targa with it. Ya, that's not saying much... but it was a seriously fun car to drive. Can't wait to see the LS swap. I still miss your old truck though. But I'm getting over it slowly.
Keep up the great content! I look forward to seeing lots more. Can't get enough of these cars. I thought I had it bad when my trailing arms needed an air hammer to get out of the cradle. Lol I can count my lucky stars I guess.
Hey wishy washy Joshy, I have a 87 ss monte how difficult/expensive would a manual swap in it be. Still has sbc but may possibly go to a ls turbo setup
I know this will be a dumb question but can an LS4 bolt up to A T5 transmission? Other than a few things (the starter for one) their both GM Metric right? The reason I'm curious is that i want to use what on my S10 Truck already has T5 trans, don't own an LS engine but plan to. I do know the ls4 have different mounts as well, and the torque of an ls is just at the limit of T5 but i also thought you could tune the torque down to preserve it xD
Cranking out them R's with that pos at idle, damn wiring 😂 It probably had an aftermarket stero hooked up one time that fucked shit up! Use teens in the mid late 90's decimated some wiring systems lol
Great content and videos 👍 keep up the great work.I wouldn't even worry about that car until you check out the snake car.you said it yourself your wife is going to be driving it.but if you have one with no motor in it perfect for mockup for New set-up.hope this helps.goodluck and God bless you and your family thanks from Gus and family at Pomofo racing Pueblo Colorado.719
Dude i did a 500 cadillac with a toronado transaxle you wouldn't believe how much room there is in yes in a Fiero most fun driver car i've ever had in a dayly driver hit me back if ya wanna see it Peace
Man im like a kid at the candy store anticipating how these builds will turn out. The monte, the fiero, and the brown bomber. Hey wait a minute what happened to the white firebird that was a bad bitch! And wait what happened to the grocery getter with the exhaust done on it? I must be getting dementia or you change cars like i change clothes. No worries tho ive been through about 50 in the last 5 years
That sucks ass but I would prob still use that 1 unless you find out it's even worse after the subframes dropped. I agree you got metal and a welder, cut that shit out and plate it. You already put the effort into getting it on your rack and the other might not be any better.
You're cranking out some great content, keep at it wishy washy joshy!!

Wether it was rusty or not, some beefing up is probably a good thing.
Shouldn't be too bad of a fix, and it would make great content to repair those sketchy areas.

I love the daily content lately dope asf
When the exciter of an alternator goes bad it fails to turn off with the ignition switch. It is the most common cause of battery drains.
The starter can be mounted with LS4 KINGS oil pan setup in UA-cam.
Yeah, but that oil pan is $1100 lol
the notchback se with the aero is the best fiero, fight me fastback bros

I'm sure you will figure it out if there's a way I've seen you weld up and build things up
Watching the tach in the fiero while you moved it, made me have a seizure from an overload of sensations.
I plan on watching it again....
Hey wishy washy Joshy, I have a 87 ss monte how difficult/expensive would a manual swap in it be. Still has sbc but may possibly go to a ls turbo setup
Turbo it and see how it does, if it breaks move on. You are probably looking at having a tube frame for the rear.
Tear it down, rollcage, backhalf, chassis stiffing.
Man the rpms are are just up there, high reving like a mother

Yeah, actually! Check out Fanatik Builds on YT. He bolted one to a T5 with a Jeep bellhousing and made a starter bracket and flywheel
Damn that tach can't be right or is the clutch that fried. I would cut the frame out of the donor and weld into this one
Cranking out them R's with that pos at idle, damn wiring 😂 It probably had an aftermarket stero hooked up one time that fucked shit up! Use teens in the mid late 90's decimated some wiring systems lol

Man that thing has got a lot of rust
Josh that shit will buff out
LS4 king sells an oil pan with provisions for a starter. its expensive tho
Yeah, f'n $1100!

I traded the firebird for the Silverado SS clone and some cash, then parted the ss out to pay for stuff lol
Side note fiero is latin for drains battery....lol
Yikes Rust Mites !

Lol I appreciate you sticking around
I've actually seen a BBC in a Fiero.
what are you using for heat in that shop
Just a big ass salamander heater
electrical should be easy, you need you replace the computer and engine harness anyway
Next you gotta put a ls in a golf cart
Wasn't that a Van Halen song , the cradle will drop ? ... Lol just kidding
Until it's torn apart. It looks salvageable
It could go either way lol
That sucks ass but I would prob still use that 1 unless you find out it's even worse after the subframes dropped. I agree you got metal and a welder, cut that shit out and plate it. You already put the effort into getting it on your rack and the other might not be any better.
Bummer
Rust no bueno. Wouldn't fool with.

Great video!…..wishy

Parted it out to pay for stuff
@@SniderTron3000 ooohhh I see! Love the content man
@@zackgregory8295 I appreciate it, man!
Look up ls4 king he has a starter solution
Yeah, his oil pan is fuckin $1100. I'm hoping he can get the "budget" version out soon
Holy shit 1100 bucks for an oil pan i complain about gen 6 454 pans in low $300s thats some highway robbery
Rusty 😱😫🤯🤪 OMG
👨🔧✔💯⭐👍🏻
I thought the rx7 got the gold motor. ....you got 2 golden nuggets??
The rx7 engine is gold, this one is burnt copper. But I'm thinking about repainting it Pontiac blue
@@SniderTron3000 shit bro I'm color blind they both look gold to me.....but Pontiac blue would be cool for the fiero!!!
Please jus turbo the stock motor
Feels illegal to be this early
🤙🏻🍕
👍👍🇨🇱
Scrap that turd and move as far away from fiero as possible safe yourself the headache
These cars where crappy when it was new going through all the work to put a ls in it is a waste of time and money shit build
First!!
