  • Trip through the Grampians entering via Strachan's camp ground on the south west, taking Sawmill Track, then Victoria Range Rd onto the Goat Track.
    Very scenic not particularly difficult drive. Had my mum on board for this one.
    Definitely recomment this track if you're in the area with your family well worth checking out

    Great video mate. Enjoyed the map overview at the start, and was great to see how technical the track was, planning to head there with a camper trailer and looks like a fun overlanding track, nothing too gnarly. cheers.

    Nothing beats a nice drive through the bush and with tracks like that you can't go wrong.

      Thx Mate, great little track through a less often travelled part of the Grampians. My mum certainly enjoyed it!

      @@OffTheBeatenPathAus I'm sure she would. I used to do the same through a part up here just as a detour on the way home but due to track damage they have blocked half of it off

      @@OnCountryWithMick it's a shame how many tracks are getting shut due to a minority treating them and the area's around them poorly.
      I was always looking forward to doing McBride's beach track but that was closed in the last year or two.

      @@OffTheBeatenPathAus agreed. Looks like lots more will be getting closed off. It isn't always people doing the wrong thing but a lot it is. This particular spot was a slippery and steep hill so very easy to spin even in good conditions. Last time I drove it I found it was very chewed up. A lot of dumped vehicles around there as well would not of helped

    Hey mate, great video, lots to see and do in the Grampians. Did you need to stick the Pajero into 4WD (high or low) at all?
    We are planning a trip there next year and just want to know what we are up for, some inexperienced 4WD'ers are joining us.

    • @OffTheBeatenPathAus
      @OffTheBeatenPathAus  9 місяців тому

      The Paj can run in 4wd without the centre locker engaged, so just used that most of the time. Climbing or descending the Goat track I used Low Range, you could probably do it without but better to control speed. Enjoy the trip!

      @@OffTheBeatenPathAusyeah I have a Triton with super select so will do the same, I think I’ll recommend our friends to run 4 high and we can jump to low if the going gets tough and rocky. Thanks mate!

      @@damoriaa Yeah it's not a difficult drive if you're taking the goat track they shouldn't have any trouble really and it's pretty scenic. Watch for the lookout spot part way up/down it's not sign posted but there's a track onto the rock near there.

    Hi There, Iwill be heading there next week with my wife and daughter. We are relatively self-contained and will be there for three days. I liked the camping spot you pointed out but would like to know its exact location... can you offer it (GPS co-ords)? Any other little gems to set up camp for a night that are not 'advertised'? TIA!

    • @OffTheBeatenPathAus
      @OffTheBeatenPathAus  Рік тому +1

      Hey mate thx. Camp site is Strachan's camp ground, near the intersection of Jensen's Rd and Glenelg River Rd. Easy to find with any Grampians touring map. 37°22.530'S, 142°16.892'E cordinates for you.
      You need to pre book camp sites there. Take toilet paper as if busy the long drop will have none. Check your camp site there for ants nests some have more than others. Parks VIC put out a good free PDF 4wd map for the grampians. Enjoy the visit. The goat track and Vic Range Rd are fun pretty easy drive tracks and the lookout on the goat track (not signed) is well worth it, one of the best in the Grampians IMHO.

      It's one of a few hiking camps along the Victoria Range Track. I'm not 100% on which one it is but I think it was this one; 37°16.622'S, 142°20.691'E
      If you're coming from Strachan's its on the right on a hairpin left turn.

    Hi There, thanks for putting up a great video of your trip to Grampians. Is it required to drive there with a 4wd? We are considering to go there on an awd kluger. do you reckon the awd Kluger could do the job? TIA 🙂

    • @OffTheBeatenPathAus
      @OffTheBeatenPathAus  Рік тому

      Should be fine honestly for 90% of the tracks. Most of the Grampians is bitumen or 2wd gravel. You've got to look hard for anything 4wd.
      I'd take an AWD kluger on the goat track and vic range track you've seen in this video, just comes down to wheel placement in a few places. Decent tyres would be important though few sharp rocks on this one.

  • @annac3956

    Hi, great video! Would a AWD make it up there to Mt Thackeray do you reckon?

    • @OffTheBeatenPathAus
      @OffTheBeatenPathAus  Рік тому +1

      Hey there assuming you've got reasonable clearance, wouldn't need a big lift or anything just some reasonable clearance and not too low at the front I'd say yes. Also as long as it's not immediately after rain. a few spots I saw clay that would get pretty interesting straight after rain.
      Generally speaking I had the Pajero in 4H only, which is effectively AWD as it's without the centre locker engaged, for the majority of this track. I think I put it in Low for the descent on the goat track just to provide some engine braking. It's a great area to explore and off the main tourist routes.
