- Penguin, born Sedley Joseph, was 70 years old passed away in 2013 and was one of the few calypsonians to have won both the Calypso Monarch and Road March titles.
In 1982 he claimed Road March honours with "A Deputy Essential" and in 1984 won the Calypso Monarch crown with "We Living In Jail" and "Sorf Man."
Other memorable calypsoes from Penguin include "Betty Goatee", "What Sweet In Goat Mout", "The Slipper", "Look De Devil Dey" and "Taxi Woman". In 2005, he was presented with the Hummingbird Medal (Gold) in the annual national awards for his contribution to the development of the calypso art form.
Mervyn Ambrose a ttt soldier had a cameo(wearing ttt shirt) in this video... May he also rest in peace.
I can't believe there is a video for this song!!!
It’s the best! Right!, lol
And it’s a very poor video. Very, very poor.
I remember as a youth man this song played on ttt every day back in the 80,s
ay-ay-ay-ay that sweet calypso........
Look at that old Datsun pick up truck.
Loving the view of the cars that were in use in trinidad back in the early 80s. Datsun pick up, Datsun 120y, Toyota Corolla wagon, Hillman Hunter wagons, Mitsubishi Galant, Mazda 616 wow.... So much memories re lived here..
Great memories!
Everytime you hear penguin imysic it is still sounding like classic
What a great video!
I love calypso and reggae over soca and dancehall. I was born in 2001 but I'm one OLD soul.🇹🇹
He was a teacher at my school.
Wow classic childhood for me ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Thanks for uploading. I never ever saw this video
You are very welcome Frank.

You are so welcome
Big Song ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I LOVE THIS SONG AND THE VIDEO IS AWESOME, TOO!!! THANK YOU!
Blessed happiness! I love this video to no end. The message and wisdom in the lyrics are appropriate for all eras and time. The footage so encapsulates the era of Trinibago culture: the clothes of the great Penguin; clothes of the crowd that were modern at that time; the vehicles that were modern at that time which would be relics today; the area where they are sitting (I may be wrong but I believe it is in Trincity just off the highway, a highway that was which was only 2 lanes at that time) and the red TTT symbol, Trinidad and Tobago Television, on the t-shirt at the end. It all takes me back and I am grateful for the video.
❤❤❤❤❤

Tunnnnneeee 🔥🔥🔥🔥
💌
Let’s please bring back this simplicity to soca music
These were the songs of my childhood days. Catchy chorus, sweet melody, strong message. Sometimes I feel like soca music died 30 years ago.
Teary eyed watching this.
Sweeeeet memories of a long gone beautiful time
Can anyone tell me the year that this song came outside bcuz I wasn't a child when I remember hearing it but I can't place the year
I`m pretty certain it was 1983.
Raj about 1983-86 not precise but between those years.
It's definitely from 1983. I have the record What Sweet In Goat Mouth by Penguin and is dated as 1983. This was a big tune in Carnival 1983 in T&T. Even though, he won the Road March title from the previous year in 1982 with his song "Deputy". Then 2 years later, he went on to win the Calypso Monarch with "Soft Man" and "We Living In Jail" in 1984. Penguin continued on to record and put out more soca albums throughout the rest of the 80's from mid to late. In 1991, Penguin released his last and final 12" Soca Single called Apple/The Lottery on Straker's. He was never heard or mention ever again. But also worked as a School Teacher in Trinidad and he worked at a company called TUCO in Trinidad & Tobago.
You got to love Penguin!!
However whose idea it was to have film on the busy street side?!
🤦🏽♀️ 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
1983....my dad has the album!!!
