The "plumbing" are little spaces that you can look through that are aimed at other locations to see. Fun to climb up there on 4th of July, you can watch Fireworks from all over the Bay area 360 degrees. But since you'll be leaving after dark, don't park in the parking lot that closes before then. It adds time to your climb and distance. Also dress in layers, it gets cold and windy at the top. Headlamps good idea. And if it's overcast you won't see anything. There is even a Campsite behind the peak, but you need a permit to camp there, and pretty much need to bring backpacks with sleeping bags, tents, all that stuff. Ways to purify water. There's a porta potty but don't count on it being cleaned out. I've seen deer up there, coyote, rattlesnakes, lizards, hawks, and of course the cows right on the trail.
Good report. I used to hike in Colorado, and here in California near Lone Pine. Always fun to see the local summits covered, like Mission Peak.
I stopped in Lone Pine after doing Whitney. I hear CO is beautiful. Want to move away from here it's too expensive.
*Weekdays early morning or late afternoon are the best time to hike this place. Little to no waiting to take a photo on the pole "Mission Peeker"*
Loved the sighn post with all the plumbing that's cool and the hiking trail was amazing thanks for sharing

Gobekli Tepe -- Mission Tepe - a sacred hill.
There are about 200 people on weekend since they put curfew. Week days I hardly see 20 to 40 people..
