Now here is a song that is really about something, a time in history, with a story and real meaning. Brilliant, and he performs it so well. Love this.

I really like this song and this is a cracking performance but I've always been puzzled why second world war refugees are coming from Switzerland, a neutral country.

Haha yes, perhaps they were brought under in Switzerland to hide from the war? I'll ask him when I see him

      This should help :-)
"During the Second World War Switzerland was surrounded by Germany and its allies from June 1940 to August 1944. Though it did resist Adolf Hitler as much as it could, it simply had to choose between some compromises and complete surrender. Though it was the last free country in continental Europe, Switzerland was anything but a safe place for refugees, taking into account its own small size and weak position opposite to Germany!"

Put it into context I always think this song is set after D-day and person in the song comes over lake Geneva into liberated France. Then he takes a train from Paris to the ocean, they walked the beaches of Normandy and say a prayer for the boys who said goodbye to it all.
So if you know the music of Chris then you’ll know that the beginning of the song referring to the beginning of the war in the previous song about the subject “Borderline” maybe he was captured at dunkirk, escaped to Switzerland. Then after d-day he returns to say thanks to those who liberated them in this song.
