Catherine the US dollar gets its value not by being a scarce commodity --- we are not on a gold standard. Our taxes do not fund our federal govt --- they dont pay for our military and they dont' pay for social security Lastly the US govt does not sell treasuries to fund itself. Our monetary system is a form of chartalism which means the US dollar gets its value from the tax obligation that is placed on citizens to pay its taxes in the currency that the Govt Creates. The govt is not like a household --- it can always pay the debt that is denominated in the currency it creates --- I as a person can not make US dollars that is called couterfeiting and I would go to jail. The Govt can make dollars. YOU HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING HAVE HOW OUR SYSTEM WORKS. Learn something about economics please, you give misinformation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
