  • This was my 5th trip to the ring, and the 4th time I was going in my Panda, which will probably also be the last ;( - BTG was 10:36
For some of this lap had a fun a fun battle with two guys from England in a BMW e46 328i, and a Vauxhall Corsa with an aprox. 200bhp vxr turbo engine. We shook hands afterwards :)
The car had new wider tires with a lover profile, mounted on bigger, much heavier wheels with a lot smaller offset, which all made it behave a lot different.
It was slower than ever before, but I got so much more grip in the corners, that the suspension became an even bigger limiting factor.
It is seriously under sprung and under dampened, which made for a very wallowy ride, with unpredictable handling at times. The improved grip was worth some time though.
It is definitely not a race car, but it it very fun to race it non the less.
The extra grip also meant that I could rarely heal and toe for down shifts, as the completely flat seat did not hold me at all, so I had to keep my foot against the pedals to be able to press myself into the seat, as well as hanging on for dear life by the steering wheel, while trying to steer.
It was a bit like a rodeo ride on a small but feisty pony.
    Car data:
2005 Fiat Panda with 60 HP and 211.500 km - getting a bit tired.
Mods: Rear seat removed. Rusted out tow hook removed :)
Bridgestone Potenza Re050a (normal street tires)
175/55R15 on 6x15 ET 31,5 Alcar steelies for a Fiat multipla.
    (originals are 155/80r13 on 5x13 ET 35)
Main camera: LG G6 - wide angle lens
    Foot camera: Sony AZ1
    Rear camera: Sony xperia SP
Lap driven 25.04.2019. Time of day: 18:15

Panda = Sigma Ride. Couple days ago I did 21 hour non-stop drive in my 19 year old 1.2 Panda with from Netherlands to Latvia and I did a lot of spirited driving throughout. This thing is the ultimate GT, all you need on the Autobahn and reliable af! ;)

fuckin awesome... it's amazing how you push the Panda into corners! Obviously there isn't engine enough, but shifting and braking are perfect. I like so much the camera on pedals: there's a lot to learn. Can I ask you what tires do you mount? Are them stock size? Have you done any other tuning?

Thanks for the kind words. That means a lot to me. The car was limited in every way, but it was quite predictable on the limit, and huge fun too :)
I just sold it a week ago, which is sad, but it was time. Got myself a Panda 100HP though, so hoping to take that to the ring as well.
Are you a Panda man, nürburgring man or both maybe?

Hey. Yeah, we were gonna go this spring as well, but not much we can do. You have time to out another car at least ;)
And I'm fine thanks, all things considered - hope you can say the same.
Hope to run into you again too, and maybe have another friendly battle. (you were in the corsa or the 3 series I presume)

Thank you :) I change gear around 5500 rpm. Sometimes a bit more, some times a bit less.

Which tire pressure did you go?

    • @testacorsa1
      @testacorsa1  Рік тому +1

I went with 2 bar. I drove a lap, and then checked the pressure when I came in, and lowered it to 2 bar again with the tyres hot.

@@testacorsa1 Thank you. I just bought the old Panda from my son, it's the same as yours, 2008 model with ~133000km on the clock. Some repairs to be done, but I want to keep it as long as possible just for fun.
I'm surprised how well cornering works with your Panda.

@@Felix-fy7ki Oh, nice. Those cars will last a looong time, and are so easy and cheap to maintain and repair. If you are running the original tyres the tyrepressure should be 2 bar front and 1.8 bar rear. (13 and 14 inch wheels.)
Congrats and enjoy it. I think you are going to love that little fun box.
      And thanks :)

@@testacorsa1 I'm already in love with it, although my main car is an Opel Astra GTC! 😅
Unfortunately there's a hole on the right side just in front of the rear wheel because of corrosion. I'll have it welded as soon as possible.
There are some electronic issues as well (steering, ignition) and the spring at the front of the air filter housing to tie it to the cylinder head is missing.
For road use I have front 2,5bar and rear 2,2bar in the tires to avoid aquaplaning and to reduce wear when cornering. And I need some new summer tires as well. Any tips on that?
      14 inch Fiat alloy wheels.

@@Felix-fy7ki A GTC is another kettle of fish, and fun in completely different ways 😀 I just did the rust on my 100HP, both sides, rear sills - it sucked! If you can, get the panels; I made mine up, and it was not fun. 2,5 bar and 2,2 will probably be overenfaltion, so your tyres deform in the middle, giving you a smaller contact patch, which isn't ideal - but good on fuel though :)
That spring is always missing. I just used a zip until I found a spring after a year or so. If you can get them in 14" I can recommend Kumho HS52. I have them on my 100HP and my mx5 (had the HS51 before that). Very good semi budget tyre.
