Great lesson, Magnus! Thank you! I like classical music and I am inspired to take on memorizing a longer piece. Most of the fiddle tunes I play are about 16 bars long. I am familiar with backchaining, but I don’t think I have ever applied it to memorizing music. Why not?! Now is a good time to do that.
There's a nice book/CD tutorial called "Hal Leonard Mandolin Play-Along J. S. Bach" published by Hal Leonard. There are eight popular Bach pieces notated in manuscript and tablature and a CD with demonstration and backing tracks. I forget what I paid for it a few years back but it wasn't too expensive and I can certainly recommend it. You'll definitely find a nice, simple party piece in there.
How do you find playing classical music on the mandolin?
What do you think about using fretted notes vs. open strings on mando?

I love classical music and would love some “easy to play” pieces for someone of my very amateur knowledge and experience
