When he was talking about the getting out part I felt that!! That unknown that you may face when you step out that gate was always the worst the not knowing what you may face the anxiety of knowing you know what to do to do right but also knowing any little slip will put you right back I have done 4 bids all together and finally got tired of a life revolving around pills and prison!! Been clean now for 17 months and it is the best feeling ever!!

And Death, when you asked him about the hypothetical break-in at his own apartment. “I’m just gonna pray for him’”, says Jake. Now for someone your age, and from the life that you come from, it takes more courage to say and do that, than it would to take just about any other course of action - violent or otherwise. Real strength is not taking your respect by pounding the fear into those around you and always being ready to crack, it’s actually exactly what Jake said. Because it’s a different kind of power that starts to emanate from someone who has realized that the ego has caused enough harm to themselves, and that they are going to drop it and become a humble person, so they can reclaim themselves, even when everyone around them is yet still oblivious to that fact. Going against the grain in a major way, just because you can no longer lie to yourself about how the grain is failing altogether. Jake you can help A lot of people, the way you seem to be thinking. I was a correctional officer in Florida for 5 1/2 years & alot of the stuff Jake is saying is true. As a officer you know who the big shot callers are, and usually if you have clout with them you can talk to them and try to keep peace on the compound. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's not something you can try to mediate. It's all a part of the system & we understand that.
Also most of your shot callers have some kind of respect for officers especially the Kings. It's a hard thing to explain how you can kinda feel a pulse of the compound & know when something's going on.
